Top 10 Countries With The Largest Oil Reserves

Top 10 Countries With The Largest Oil Reserves
10. Libya: 48.4 Billion Barrels
The largest oil fields and greatest oil reserves of Africa are in Libya, and experts suggest that they have many more oil rich reserves that have yet to be discovered because of sanctions against foreign oil companies and internal political instability. It is widely known and very well documented that Libya has been struggling due to a civil war and the forty two year long Gaddafi regime that ended in 2011. Due to all these conflicts, Libya has hardly been able to expand their oil production capabilities. Even still, oil has amounted to as much as 98% of government revenue in recent years; and it is highly likely that they will continue to grow as they move to maximize the productivity of their oil reserves. This could lead to political and economical development in the volatile yet promising African nation.
9. The United States: 48.5 Billion Barrels
The U.S.A has managed to find new levels of success in the past few years, likely due to their new and innovative techniques in drilling for oil. Horizontal drilling has been very effective; and fracking, while somewhat controversial, is undoubtedly an extremely effective approach that has tapped into previously inaccessible sources of oil. These advances have enabled the extraction from plentiful reserves of oil and shale. In 2012, the U.S. reached the 36 million barrel mark for the first time since 1975. In a country that expends more oil than many other nations in the world, this is a key development which can provide its citizens with a much-needed commodity and even the ability to export the product.
8. The United Arab Emirates: 98.7 Billion Barrels
The Zakum oil field in the U.A.E. has been the primary source of oil for this relatively small nation of the Arabian peninsula. Statistics indicate that oil and gas accounts for around 40% of the national GDP, which caused the country to modernize and created a high standard of living since the reserves were originally discovered in 1958. The Arabian peninsula and the surrounding area is renowned for its wealth of oil/gas reserves, and the U.A.E.’s Zakum field produces a disproportionately large amount of oil for a country with a somewhat small land area.
7. Kuwait: 101.5 Billion Barrels
Kuwait is another smaller-yet-fertile oil producing nation around the Persian Gulf. The past few decades have been chaotic in Kuwait; due to the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980’s, followed by the Iraqi invasion and annexation of Kuwait in 1990, and finally the Persian Gulf War in which a U.S. led coalition sought to remove the crushing Iraqi occupation. They were devastated by the Iraqi regime, which adopted the scorched-earth policy to destroy Kuwait’s assets. After Kuwait regained its independence, they restored their place amongst the global leaders in oil production. The Burgan oil field holds approximately 70 billion barrels, making it the world’s second largest single oil field.
6. Russia: 103.2 Billion Barrels
Russia has numerous natural resources for energy, most notably the massive oil fields in Siberia. The decline of the Soviet Union caused a lapse in oil production, but they have improved recently as the country made an effort to revamp their efficiency. There are still potentially bountiful sources in the arctic regions of Russia that have yet to be used.
5. Iraq: 150 Billion Barrels
Iraq has some of the world’s greatest reserves of oil, even though they- likely many other nearby countries in the Middle East- have been burdened down by political struggles for much of the past few decades. These conflicts crippled the entire oil production industry in the country for quite some time, preventing them from accomplishing very much at all as they were entangled in a series of wars and changes in political control. However, even the rather antiquated 2D readings of Iraq’s oil fields prove that they have a lot to offer in terms of oil. Luckily, the past few years have brought considerable improvement and helped stabilized the country; so they should be able to revitalize their oil production.
4. Iran: 157.8 Billion Barrels
Iran is yet another oil-rich Middle Eastern country, manufacturing nearly 160 billion barrels per year. They have some of the most accessible reserves in the world, which allows them to extract oil quickly and efficiently. Iran’s oil reserves were first found in 1905, so even after more than a century of production; they still haven’t depleted their resources. At their current rate, they’ll continue to churn out oil for another century or more; and that doesn’t even take currently undiscovered fields into consideration. Almost 150 hydrocarbon fields are located in Iran, and they contain both oil and natural gas.
3. Canada: 172.9 Billion Barrels

    When i was in saudi arabia before first gulf war, we buried 250kg of explosives and detonated it, it left a crater appx 30m wide and 10m deep, about 1/3 the size of what to expect in good ground. When we got to the crater the bottom was filling with dark liquid with gas bubbling through it. Ive got a great picture of me stood next to it.

    According to Russian geologist, oil is not a fossil fuel but is created by geological forces deep within the earth. There have been cases where depleted oil fields have mysteriously refilled such as in one case in California. Oil has been found at depths of over 10,00 feet where no life forms can live. The Mclintock One oil well in Pennsylvania has been producing oil since 1858 and is the world's longest producing oil well. While I believe the world should be finding other sources of energy such as thorium nuclear energy, I believe oil and natural gas will be with us forever.

  • @georgestreicher252

    @georgestreicher252

    2 жыл бұрын

    @Burt Wilderdeud The oil wells in Pennsylvania have never been high producers of petroleum. Their unique crude is mainly used as lubricants. One such well was drilled in the 1970's in Orange County, NY near the town of Otisville. The oil was similar to Pennsylvania grade crude. The main point is crude oil is the most abundant liquid on earth next to water and is constantly being replenished by geological forces deep in the earth. There are great untapped oil deposits off the Falkland Islands and off New Zealand's southern island. While I would like to see the use of other fuels such as coal, thorium, and methane capture from sewer plants and cesspools, we are not running out of crude oil anytime soon. The elites that run the world, want to make us think oil is a finite fossil fuel, which it is not. They also perpetuate the myth of carbon as a greenhouse gas. These myths are perpetuated to control the sheeple as the elites fly around in their private jet, enjoy their large yachts, and limousines. Thery also build ocean front mansions as they scare us about the rise of sea levels caused by the nonsense of global warming.

  • @georgestreicher252

    @georgestreicher252

    @Burt Wilderdeud Not true. Most so-called renewables would not be self-sustaining if government subsidies were not provided. As for so called green energy, more carbon fuels are required to mine and produce the batteries and other parts for electric cars than a typical conventional car and that is not even factoring in the carbon fuels needed to produce the electricity. The recycling of wind turbine blades has not been devised and are simply burred in a land fill. Most solar panels are produced in China anyway. I'm all for so called green energy if it is cost effective and does not require the taxpayer's dollars to be self-sustaining. We have already been self-sustaining in petroleum products until Sleepy Joe got into the White House. I'm for American jobs in coal mining, (we have the largest coal reserves in the world) petroleum production, thorium nuclear energy, methane capture, and solar and wind (those poor eagles and other birds) only if it is cost effective and does not damage the environment. I left out small hydro power. Let's do that one too. We need an all-hands-on deck approach to produce cheap and plentiful energy and not be fooled by media hype and lies. PS I'd like to learn about your renewable energy projects. Did it require government subsidies? What happens to products used in your projects when the life of the project is done? What percentage of the items required to complete the project are made overseas? Remember, carbon is good for the environment because it makes the plants grow.

    One of the largest oil (and gas) discoveries ever made was off the southern and eastern coasts of New Zealand's South Island in the late 70s early 80s. It was discovered by Hunt Petroleum of Texas. I have spoken to people who had close contact with people on the rigs, and the general consensus is, the total discovery was/is absolutely enormous. Also, one of the contacts had a vile of crude from one of the wells and said that it was Kuwaiti grade oil. You read into this what you will -- Hunt Petroleum (owned by the Hunt family of Texas) capped the wells and left in the early 80s. No one is sure why the oil and gas fields weren't developed, but some believe it's because the 7 sisters (oil majors) didnt want it affecting global oil prices. In the end, I'm not sure. Just a side note: a large gas deposit was discovered off the east coast two years ago. The company asked the NZ government if they wanted it, with the reply being, NO. In anger, the company capped the well and left. If anyone's interested, there's a little known book about the subject called "New Zealands Lost Oilfields" When it comes to the global oil reserves, we the public dont know the half of it. Just as an example, through my own research, I know of three massive undeveloped discoveries. They are New Zealand, Alaska's Beauford Sea and the Faulkland Islands. Then there are the rumours about the oceans surrounding the Antarctic. But in the end who knows, there are probably more.

    Kiora, I remember reading somewhere that one of the earliest oil wells was in New Zealand. I am not sure if they predated the ones in Pennsylvania, USA. Also, does our current oil supply come from the Arabian Gulf or Alaska and Venezuela. The Alaska route is much shorter than the former. The NZ continental shelf is actually about a third the area of Australia, but much of it is under the ocean. And this shelf would be abundant in all sorts of minerals.

He told me that only the senior American crew had access to findings but that their very excited demeanour indicated they were totally amazed by the extent of the reserves. All samples and results were whisked out of NZ to Hunts headquarters in Texas so the NZ government couldn't get involved. I recall that the prime minister was Muldoon and he wasn't liked by Hunts....There was a book written by a NZ geologist that was called "New Zealand Floats on Oil." I had a copy but was loaned and never got back unfortunately....It was a self published book and I've searched but never found a copy......

    For the people asking why oil wells have been capped, it’s most likely so that oil companies can still maintain oil prices at a certain level. If people find out that oil is in abundance around the world, then no one would pay for oil at the current prices. It may even become such that it is cheaper to buy oil than sell oil. All about demand and supply. The other reason may be more strategic. In times of war, countries can re-open these oil deposits and tap on them if they’d like to, a sort of strategic reserve you could say. It could also be that the countries are keeping these reserves untapped, hoping that oil will become more valuable in the future and that they can tap on it. Unfortunately, politics and businesses work together. We the layman will never know the truth.

    I presume that the figures here are proved producible reserves with currently developed production techniques. However, if you look at the total oil in place, most of which could be produced with improved extraction methods, the total reserves would be larger for most countries. The total oil in place in the Williston basin is something like eight times the reserves listed for the United States, and the total reserves for the United States, Canada, and Venezuela (including kerogen in oil shale) is in excess of one trillion barrels for each of those countries. Some estimates of oil in place in the Orinoco tar sands, exceed 10 trillion barrels. It should be noted that the supplies of what are sometimes referred to in Europe as fliessend or "flowing" resources, where the energy is streaming through all the time ( like wind, solar, and hydroelectric, are rapidly being developed to be utilized at lower costs, storage batteries are being improved, and within twenty years petroleum will be too expensive to produce and refine, to be competitive with alternatives

Since then, others have affirmed we "still" have larger reserves than most places in the world. (They were capping wells that were producing, that's what we're talking about here) One knowledgeable speculator says we could fuel ourselves without foreign oil till the 2040s easily. (Edit...the reserves we have would far exceed 2040, more like another two or three centuries) The propaganda and control of resources has all but absolved critical thinking on a myriad of issues on a grand scale. This video certainly reveals one thing: the abundance of lies connected with the energy industry. Also: it is important to understand the difference between proven oil reserves and estimated oil reserves. If this list was reorganized in terms of estimated oil reserves, the list would be somewhat different.

    @@Jake-rs9nq not true. First, humanity is using progressively less and less and less oil at a decreasing rate of more than 12% per year. Secondly, progressively more and more fossil-fuel-burning engines are being replaced with electric in passenger cars, trucks even motorcycles. Thirdly, and very few people know this, it is very probable that crude oil does not come from organic matter trapped under the ground at all. Legitimate petroleum professionals speculate that crude oil May in fact be methane from the earth core mixing with underground minerals and then cooling into a liquid. Fourthly, and very few people know this also, science has figured out how to create a synthetic rude oil from algae. The yield can be fantasticly high... up to 500 barrels per acre every 2 months. The lies propagated by the energy Mafia go back 100 years and more.

  • @Jake-rs9nq

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@californiadreaming9216 So there's several things wrong here. One is that 500 barrels of oil off of 2 acres is possible. It isn't. According to Bob Walsh, the CEO of Aurora Biofuels: "I can say we believe the absolute theoretical maximum is 10,000 gal/acre/year." We use around 100 million barrels per DAY. So we would need 160,000,000 acres of algae to fuel our oil demand, assuming we hit this maximum. This would produce incredibly expensive oil that requires unavailable amounts of nutrients and water. But using CURRENT technology, we would need closer to 500,000,000 acres of water and land. 500 million.

    @@Jake-rs9nq there is truth in what you are saying, but your numbers are way off, based on technology from 12 years ago. Alternate fuel technology, like battery technology, is changing fast. The numbers I shared with you are based on single level,sun-fed operation. Get out your calculator. Go ten stories high and power the operation with wind or solar. Now we have an interesting number. I have worked in the energy industry. The volume of deliberate, innacurate information fed to the public regarding alternative transportation possibilities, dating back to the 1920s, is staggering. If I am wrong, then why, in 2022, is petroleum still powering 90% plus of passenger and commercial vehicles when EV technology had working prototypes as early as 1933? With respect, disconnect yourself from facts/numbers offered to you by MSM who are in bed (or owned) by petroleum giants. Trouble with having loads of oil, it seems if you do, it just gets sold off (or in some cases embezzled and sold off) and then being enormously wealthy just buy anything you want and spend no time making or developing anything. I can think of few countries with a lot of oil and gas that have used it in a worthwhile way eg Norway but the list is small. Most oil producing countries are run by assorted dictators or pseudo royal families it seems...

    With cost of “black gold” at 15-23 dollars per barrel, the USSR economy collapsed, and the sovok itself collapsed, and the "golden" horde ("russia") budget can only be fulfilled only with oil price at $ 42.4 and higher
