TOP 10 CANADIAN UNIVERSITIES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS FOR 2018
10. University of Manitoba - Winnipeg, Manitoba
The largest and oldest university in Manitoba offers over 90 courses to international students, including preparatory programs and distance learning. The central prairie location provides many explorative opportunities. Its low point is the distance from everywhere else in Canada. However, studying in Manitoba may be your only chance in life to see rare species, such as polar bears and beluga whales.
9. York University - Toronto, Ontario
If the costs associated with the tuitions fees and the central location of the University of Toronto are over your budget limit, consider applying to York University, in northern Toronto. It is just behind UoT in size and its diverse courses can accommodate almost any chosen subject. If you want to attend York, you must calculate for the time and the costs associated with getting from northwest Toronto to wherever you choose to live (such as downtown Toronto). However, York has a fine residential capacity for its students and the size of the campus can compensate for the lack of urban attractions. York University has an enticing study program, including novel cross-disciplinary degrees, such as integrated science, disaster management and globalization of indigenous peoples.
8. University of Waterloo - Waterloo, Ontario
If you are thinking about enlisting in an innovative post-secondary program, the University of Waterloo, located 90 minutes from Toronto, is just what you need. Student entrepreneurs can engage with after-school activities in Velocity Garage, a free start-up incubator and grow as businessmen along taking exams. Advanced tech and interdisciplinary courses, such as knowledge integration, nanotechnology engineering and remote piloting lay a fertile ground for developing a business idea that you can launch after you graduate.
7. Simon Fraser University - Burnaby, British Columbia
Simon Fraser University provides stunning mountain views to take your eyes off the books when you complete your course lessons. Simon Fraser University is a new favorite for internationals, topping the ranks this year by the student reputation. The great thing about the three campuses located in Burnaby, Surrey, and Vancouver is that they have established a social scene for students with strong bonds to the local community. The wide scope of academic classes ranging from advanced environmental programs to business design and mechatronics makes it inclusive to all type of scholars. If you enjoy cool courses with an exuberant social life, Simon Fraser might be your choice. Simon Fraser is about 30 minutes by car, or an hour by bus, from downtown Vancouver.
6. University of Alberta - Edmonton, Alberta
Some say that the cold weather is the lowest point of your Canadian studies, and though Edmonton is pretty far north, many don’t consider it as scary weather-wise as some cities. The rates for grad students are a factor that may make you forget about the living costs. The excellent research reputation can compensate for the harsh winters. The city-sleek ambience, the wide-range of student support services, and a world famous shopping mall are welcoming students from almost 150 countries who come to study at the University of Alberta.
5. University of Calgary - Calgary, Alberta
Apart from over a hundred study programs, if you want to build not only your academic skills, but also your athletic prowess, the University of Calgary is a top pick as it is located in one of the world’s best and cleanest cities to live. With an average of 333 sunny days per year, it is a contrast to the stark Canadian weather everywhere else. Calgary has all essential aspects of Canadian hospitality - diversity and a multicultural openness. The amazing ski slopes 2 hours away are just a bonus.
4. University of New Brunswick - Fredericton and Saint John, New Brunswick
Canadian medical and law schools top among the favorites for international students. The New Brunswick University will definitely suffice for the pickiest future medical doctors and lawyers while the 75 other courses available at Fredericton and Saint John campuses make the University of New Brunswick one of the best options if you are on a budget, particularly if you find a bargain in accommodation. The study curricula comprises attractive programs related to human and satellite intelligence, as well as courses in global web activism.

You can study for 2 years to get a diploma or at least an associate degree in a specific program wich is cheaper like for me i was able to find biology courses or a diploma degree in biotechnology for around $16 000 for 2 full years(bcuz i plan on going to med school after that but if i do now its waaaaay to expensive so i chosse something close to the field) after that you get a residency a permanent one i guess then if you want you can apply to study in the university you like for one year as a perminent resident wich makes the fees less expensive and after living in canda for three years i think you can do a certain process to become a Canadian citizen after that you can continue to pay as a candian citizen but it is a waist of time 2 years is long time idk if I explained well but I hope you understand

Well Done. I'm Canadian, did my undergrad at Stanford; grad at U.Calgary, which was surprisingly alot of real enjoyment. Your serious omission: Queens, which with McGill U.& U.Toronto is tradition's "Ivy League" in Canada. Law schools which also are "Ivy League" are Toronto, Osgood Hall & Dalhousie U. SOme Universities not mentioned are real "sleepers" which bring alot of satisfaction: UWO (Western Ontario, or just "Western") in London which is near Stratford if you're into Theatre; Saskatchewan, on a hill above the Northern Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon. Architecture is beautiful neo-gothic,so you could think you were at Princeton or Yale (if you can handle cold winters!). Some like Dalhousie U. in Halifax, which includes onsite "King's College" with its traditional feel like Oxbridges, and on the other coast: U. of Victoria, which is, with Quebec City, a majority of Canadians' favorite city, having architecture of 19th century "CHARACTER" ~ and the OCEAN! Enjoy ~ I gave you the "gospel truth."

If the rankings aren't specific enough (and they probably aren't), you should see if you can find student forums about your degree or, if there isn't one about food and nutrition grad programs, then find the schools which have the degree and then find student forums for those schools, and ask what they think of their programs. Hope this helps.

So, depending upon your program, schedule is often very flexible. In the social sciences, for example, you only have so many courses to take before you focus on your thesis. Once the courses are done, there really isn't an obligation to be physically present all the time. But if you are working as a TA or an instructor, you will have less free time to travel.

Lol like everything else here (Eastern Ontario & Quebec), if you’re an Anglo-Canadian who never had the chance for French immersion be prepared to be ostracized. U of O is pretty much the worst for this outside of QC. Hilarious people who think they’re super-intelligent just because they were exposed to another language before it was too late. Here’s a tip - Ottawa is not “cosmopolitan” nor “international.” Most international students who come here are “put-off” to say the least. Oh, and if you don’t have a car, you’re gonna flip when you find out how off-the-charts abysmal the public transportation system is. Be wary in promoting Ottawa - so many people from other countries cannot fathom things being so spread out with no easy way to get to them. Awful place.

You have Quebec wrong. The average tuition of $2,979 is for Quebec residents and Qubec-born Canadians. The cost for out-of-province students rivals that of Ontario. However, after two years of study, an out-of-province student is considered a Quebec resident and is given the in-province rate. I live in Ontario but was born in Quebec so I immediately qualified for the in-province rate (Not that I cared because I had a full scholarship..heheheh). If I wasn't born there, I would have paid about the same as an Ontario university (minus the scholarship). Wow, McGill really fell. When I was in university, it was ranked 20th in the world with Queen's and the University of Toronto in second and third place in Canada. UBC was ranked 5th at the time but I can't remember who was 4th. It might have been McMaster. It sure looks like Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland is the best value by far for international students. NOTE: Montreal's Just For Laughs festival is the largest international comedy festival ON EARTH, not just in Canada. Montreal also has the world's largest Jazz Festival and Fireworks Festival.

  • @immigroup

    @immigroup

    5 жыл бұрын

Things must have changed since I went to school in Quebec, because I never got any discount on my tuition for being a Quebec resident, though I did go home every summer. This ranking is entirely subjective and is geared towards international students. I think McGill is still ranked very highly worldwide.

Mac isn’t known as the best medical school it is known as the most unconventional. International students are not accepted into Canadian medical schools. It likely depends on the program, but there is a big factor you should think about which is location. The weather is crazy as well. It's a very pretty place, with the friendliest people in Canada. But it's also very isolated.

You should see if you can find a student forum where they discuss that. Alternatively, if you know the profession you want to go into, you can contact their professional body and see if they like a particular school most.

Many if not most grad schools in Canada have scholarships and bursaries to cover tuition and certain expenses for graduate students. (This is far less true for undergraduates.) But international student tuition is much higher so I don't know how much they would cover. Depends upon the program, the school, and you.

U of T or UBC are probably the best for most specialized fields simply because they have the most money and largest departments. But for astronomy I think you would really want to do some research.

@@chelseaevelyne621 I'm pretty sure tuition was a factor when we made this video, so perhaps some of the schools in the video. Is this for undergrad or grad school? Most Canadian universities are fairly equivalent at the undergrad level if they offer the specific programs, at least to my personal knowledge. Example: I went to a school that was supposed to be not that good academically and got a far broader education in my discipline than many other people at "better" schools."

Which field? PhDs are usually field-specific. Most universities in Canada offer some kind of bursary for studying at the post-grad level, though these bursaries don't always cover all of your expenses. On top of that, there will be scholarships for really exceptional students, from the universities themselves, but also from private organizations and the government. The amount of money available depends upon the subject area and school, among other things.
