Hi there! In this video we're looking at some of the best outdoorsy games you can play while we're all indoors oh and yes, we have stretched the Walking Sim genre just a little bit here and there... Cheers everyone!

Get Indie Gaming hey! Love your vids. A while back you mentioned a game about restoring a teahouse for the spirits. Looked a bit like Stardew Valley or something. Heavily inspired by Studio Ghibli’s ‘Spirited Away’. Can you recall the name? I’d like to follow it’s progress with development, cheers!

I didn't know Journey had the same art director as Abzu and Flower. Beautiful gems! though as someone who plays specifically on steam, I kinda wish to experience Journey on it :(
I love Firewatch so much. The sort of game you wish you could experience for the first time again

@Just Frosting I really liked the artstyle and storystelling but I was disappointed with the ending at the same time because I could not meet Delilah...at least there would be a part 2 in the works, I could understand this ending.

@@Hopkins955 There were many creative minigames that were actually quite powerful in conveying the story.
Firewatch did something unforgettable, it make a genre on it's own in terms of graphics. There is just a few games like it with these graphics style, newest game is Road 96 that reminds me of Firewatch.

I read a lot of criticism of how Firewatch ended, but I thought it was perfect. As the end credits went up and the photos appeared to the music of Etta James I felt myself crying - no game has ever had that affect on me before or after (except Big Riggs and that was for different reasons) Great list of games. Thanks, as ever.

I hope it comes to the Switch. I’d love to play it while commuting to work at some point
Great list. Eastshade and A Short Hike I did play recently and both - though very different compared to each other - are relaxing and beautiful. Lost Ember was already on my wishlist, but now I added Edith Finch (finally!) and Virginia. I love good story driven games. And I'll have a look at your Mutazione review, I had never heard of this game before.
Really great list. I still need to get around to A Short Hike, Lost Ember, and Eastshade. I also recommend Shape of the World for something a bit more surreal. It gives you that same feeling of wandering through nature, but with a minimalist style and vibrant, ever-changing color palettes.
I got high and played Everyone’s Gone to the Rapture....did not expect to have a life crisis after the first chapter but boy did it fuck me up
Firewatch is my favourite game out there. It delivers the emotions to the player in such a way that none other game does.
Thanks for this! I do love a good walking simulator, with a rich story and calm atmosphere. I agree with your choices there, where I can see some of my favorite. Did you play Tacoma? I think it's one of the best in the genre.
Thank you! I've found few games I never heard about! Looking forward to try them now~💚~
Just played firewatch the other day for the first time and just... Wow
I love this genre, probably is one of the first lists I don't discovered a new game but it is great to remember me which ones I have still pending of play or finish.
I’ve played pretty much almost everything on this list and struggle to name my favorite! 🤭 All of them are so good and perhaps Firewatch and Everyone’s Gone to the rapture are simply breathtaking! Also, Edith Finch is something special ❤️ Thank you for this video - enjoyed it a lot and really want to replay so many of them now! Also, A short hike is on my wishlist now 👀

I'm here because I just played Gone Home and LOVED it! I can't wait to play more simple games like this, and I think I'll continue with Firewatch
Great list. I played A Short Hike a few days ago and it is a nice relaxing game.
So far I've played A Short hike, Mutazione (though I did not give much attention to the garden mode, I'll definitely give it another look) and Abzû from this list, and I'll surely play some more of these in the future. As always, thanks for the video! I really enjoy these thematic rundowns.

Nice Video! I can recommend two other sci-fi walking-sims: The Station and STARDROP, both with some interesting ideas and plot twits
Thank you for recommending Eastshade. It was wonderfu and has surpassed Shadow of the Colossus for favorite game world to get lost in.
The woody setting of Vanishing of Ethan Carter, though an old game, is gorgeous if one loves Esther , Rapture...
a short hike is a true masterpiece. I really needed this list. Thanks.

Thanks for the guidance, as always!
A Short Hike was a quaint little game :). will check some of these other titles too. I have both Mutazione and Firewatch on my wishlist and will definitely add Lost Ember to it as well.
A Short Hike is a real gem. I loved it.
one game that i think would really fit this list is Proteus (2013), it's so beautiful and chill i really loved playing it
nice i still waiting for more ;)
A Short Hike is probably my favorite from this list. I see all of these people on Steam with 1-2 hours of playtime and here I am with almost 10 hours put into the game. Edith Finch has been such a weird experience. I consider it dope rather than nope, it even made me cry in the end.

Thank you for the Video. Walking Sims are my favourite kind of games at the moment. There are many titles in this list I truely ove. I really enjoyed Outer WIlds
walking sims are my favourite games visual novels feel great I dunno what it is about them fully but they have a certain charm.
Ahhh yes dear esther was one of the best walking simulator games i have ever played, very relaxing and the sceneries are amazing. I totally recommend that. Will play everybodys gone in the rapture soon and also layers of fear should be here because it’s pretty much like a walking simulator but ofc horror.
Firewatch is my favourite. I've still yet to play anything with such convincing voice acting.
I've been learning how to make a video game for the past 2 years. Now I finally have time to buckle down while my day job is down. I've learned Dr racket, gd script and now Lua in TIC 80. I'm mostly drawn to tic 80 as I'm a beginner and I'm the only one working on it. Self taught. But now I'm stuck not wanting to build another clone.

All the best artist steal, the important thing is what you do with it. No matter what you make you must give yourself permission to suck because it is highly improbable you will create a masterpiece with your first iteration. The trick is to fail faster and learn from each experience. You got this =)
Dear Esther was very (VERY) slow, but i couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks after finishing it. Would recommend

Totally - wonderful, wonderful games.
R.I.P Rick May. You were good son, real good, maybe even the best. Godspeed you magnificent bastard.
I was looking for a game similar for a short hike but as I see it's just number one...
I love walking simulators because they’re good games but they’re also great stories.
I also highly recommend A Short Hike, Abzu and What Remains of Edith Finch all of which are excellent. I'd also want to thank you for recommending A Short Hike to me in the first place. Eastshade, Firewatch, Lost Ember and Virginia are all on my wishlist already =) I think an argument could be made for Journey being added to this list, if for no other reason than it is a sublime experience I wish I could share with everyone.

We talked about adding Journey and left it out due to the precision platforming sections. Awesome game though. Think I’ll play it again tonight.
I really want to play lost ember but I only have a switch. The video says that it’s on the switch but I checked on the eshop and it’s not there. My switch is up to date and all the usual stuff so I’m just a little confused and sad now.
I'd recommend Quern undying thoughts; the witness; obduction; thalos principle; and Eastshade.
I played Firewatch sight unseen a few years ago and have yet to play it’s equal. I’m craving that experience again.

I played it again the other evening. It is still so very magical.
Played many of these and will play the rest over the course of this stupid pandemic. Firewatch is superb and it's ending is sublime. Dear Esther reduced me to tears with it's haunting narration and the players search for redemption and re-birth - the ending is brutal. Everybody's gone to the Rapture was pretty but - for me - it missed the mark. Given how loose the criteria is for being seen as a walking sim then Journey is surprisingly missing from the list and a must-play regardless. Virginia is simply stunning.
I am not much into walking sims but I am interested in Firewatch, I played it a couple of years back but didnt finish it, maybe I should give it another go

The hunter: call of the wild is huge with all DLCs to walk in nature. Beautiful flora and fauna. You dont have to hunt, you can just walk and sightsee :)

Road 96 is also very cool
Fire watch and what remains of Edith finch is by farm my favourite games that changed me to be fair
Firewatch, Edith Finch, Mutazione are great walking games but Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is my top one.
EASTSHADE seems like a DREAM...
if anyone is coming back to this video later like me, I highly recommend Road 96

Observation should be on this list
I'm surprised Death Stranding isn't in this list. The greatest Walking Simulator so far
A game called "The Witness": Allow me to take a walk.
It's obvious this is my wheelhouse. I've beaten seven of these, I own but have yet to play two more, and the last one is on my Steam and eShop wishlists. Killer list, in other words!
1) The vanishing of Ethan Carter 2) Dear Esther 3) The Long Dark (yes ...)
I'm not in quarantine (my job does not affected by the pandemic as hard), whilst I love to play with any (which I didn't play yet - Nr. 10 was already played, and it was a mindblowing experience. I did thrown off Gone Home from it's throne for me... well I'm confused 'bout Dear Esther is worse or better than What Remains for Edith Finch, because I love both titles. Both have their own charms. So I can't decide in this session) Some of those even in my whishlist XD PS: I don't want to be nitpicky, but I'd like to spread Arlo's suggestion 'bout forget the genre's pointless name, and use the FPE or as First Person Exploration instead. Watch the video where he explains it furthermore here: /watch?v=irbhdSt6eDI

There’s 2 games like these. Tell me why. It’s about a brother and a sister that use their special bond to unravel the memories of their loving but troubled childhood. It’s a really fun game takes 8 hours to beat though. I would really recommend it. And there’s a game called Road 96. It’s really really fun one of the best walking simulator games I’ve played. I forgot how long it takes to beat it though and what it’s about but I would recommend both of those games. They both should have gamepass. I know Tell me why does but idk about Road 96. But if it doesn’t show gamepass we’ll they took it away Im guessing. Road 96 costs 19.99 and Tell Me Why costs 15.99 if you want all the chapters together. There are 3 chapters btw on Tell me why but idk about Road 96.

One of the best thing we could do to those kind of game is to stop calling them walking simulators in the first place because it's a very silly and pejorative way of describing them. Narrative adventures or narrative explorations would be ten times better.
