Thoroughly Modern Millie needed at least an honorable mention, not only was it incredibly fun and catchy, but it was the “a star is rising” role for newly discovered Sutton Foster

I love that Spring Awakening made it onto the list! But personally I prefer the revival performance, the use of the American Sign Language made it even more breathtaking

Daniele Alexis of course she would be!!! It’s been THE #1 Tony Award Performance of all time since 1982!! No one can top Jennifer Holliday and And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going!!!! People can google it if they don’t believe me but she has held that title for OVER 35 YEARS!!! She’s a force to be reckoned with!👏🏼👏🏼

The Pippin Revival's performance of "Magic to do" was epic. The amount of insane acrobatic tricks plus great vocals shows it deserves at least an honorable mention.

Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth's Defying Gravity is One of the best performances in the tony awards!

Well, its not great. However, I still think they did an amazing job. That might seem confusing, but the orchestra was going full sicko mode. It was rushed. Plus, there are rumors of Idina having an asthma attack. IDK if its true, but whatever. If you can even get on Broadway, you're amazing

Guy_With_A_Stick-Totally agree with you, that performance by the cast of Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet should have at least been on this list if not on the number 1 spot. That performance was amazing to watch.

I still get chills when I watch The Circle of Life. That entire performance is a masterpiece. Lucky to have seen the show in London.

#1 will always be #1. Can't imagine a bigger song, bigger voice, and a more astonishing performance.

fluffyhales Newsies is such a work of art. Though it's popular, it doesn't get the attention it deserves. The dancing is incredible and the vocals are just as wonderful.

Positions 10 to 2 will provoke a lot of argument, but it is pretty hard to argue with the #1 choice. 35 years later and that song is still the benchmark for all Broadway divas (and I mean "diva" respectfully).

Jennifer Holiday's​ performance deserved to be number 1

Two incredible Tony numbers that are iconic are Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley singing "I Will Never Leave You" from Side Show, and Alice Ripley, J. Robert Spencer, and Aaron Tveit singing "You Don't Know/I Am The One" from Next to Normal. I'm quite shocked they're not on this list. Hamilton and Rent could've gone. They're great, but I never hear about their Tony performances compared to the others.

This list couldn’t be much more perfect.

Jennifer Holiday’s performance...there just aren’t sufficient words to describe the magnificence of it.

So glad "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" was number one, unbeatable! Nothing will come close to topping that, but where was Michael Jeter's Tony Performance from Grand Hotel? If anyone remembered anything from that show, it was Jeter being human elastic and stunning us all with that tour de force performance.

Jennifer Holiday is FANTASTIC. NO ONE plays that role better than her.

Also apparently they came out with a mean girls musical it’s pretty bad. It wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t good either. They had the wrong actors for the wrong parts. Regina’s actor was really bad her acting didn’t watch up remotely with the original.

Les Misérables, and Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 should've definitely been on this list, at least as honorable mentions. The Great Comet performance blew me away. Definitely up there with one of my favorite musicals behind Les Mis.

Ok but what about Great Comet? It was phenomenal. Simply breathtaking. The most beautiful organized chaos you'll ever see

I actually never saw the show but I am watching the new show Rise on NBC.

Les Mis? Newsies? Phantom of the Opera? Falsettos? In the Heights? West Side Story? Not even a mention?! I mean some of Ms Mojo’s picks are good but still there are these amazing Tony performances

why isn't great comet on the list? that performance was outstanding!

So many of the comments complain about musicals from the last 10 years not being on the list. I get that the youtube audience mostly have experienced the last 10 years, but musical theatre performances have been on the tonys for decades. Musical theatre fans must have an appreciation foe shows and performances that have gone before. Most of the lists in the comments have most if not all shows are less than 20 years old, completely ignoring decades of muscials.

At first, I was shocked that Hamilton wasn't the top pick, and then I saw the top pick and I understood why. Holliday's performance is EXCELLENT!

you looked over great comet. they put together two songs that don't go together seamlessly and the interaction between the performers and the audience was charming and fun. the party atmosphere of the song made it a performance to remember.

2011 was a great year for Tony Awards for two reasons - Andrew Rannells in the Book of Mormon's, I believe; and Sutton Foster's show stopping tap dancing performance in Anything Goes! Glad they had an Honorable Mention at least :)

I did not know that the cast of Hamilton forwent the use of the musket props for their Tony Awards performance in respect of the Orlando shooting victims. That really touched me.

Hey as those of us who have pets or at least like Disney movies with cute fuzzy animals how can we not get teary-eyed over Lion King or Cats! Yes Cats may be be over done but it has a great score, plus the dancing is awesome!

G Rodriguez I saw Cats many moons ago with my step Mom. I enjoyed it immensely, but she didn't just not like it. She HATED it. Yes, "Memory" is beautiful and the actress we saw did a fabulous job performing it, but the junkyard set ruined the whole thing for her. She could not get past the set. Strange woman.

For me, it's easy to enjoy Cats because I use have it on video recording of it and as I didn't have many video tapes I'd watch it so often that I got nostalgic for it‼️

It's not a musical, and his performance on the Tonys was only one minute long, but the physical energy he put into that minute was amazing. Play nominees tend to not get highlighted on the Tonys, but this was a special one-man performance by Corden. He made the most of it and would go on to win a Tony that night.

Due to the lack of film/video of pre-1980 Tony Awards, we're probably missing a lot of great performances which have been forgotten. Sadly. Does anyone remember Gwen Verdon, Carol Channing, Chita Rivera or Julie Andrews' performances from the award show(s) back then? On this list, I think the lack of "Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat" from the 1992 revival of "Guys & Dolls" is a big oversight. While Stubby Kaye's iconic performance on Broadway, London and the movie may never be surpassed, Walter Bobbie's rendition as Nicely Nicely has a huge amount of energy and got the audience on their feet. Certainly a Top Ten performance, although I'd hesitate at putting it in the Top 5. As an honourable mention, I'd have put up the performance of 2011's "Brotherhood of Man" from "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying". Well staged, excellent dancing and Daniel Radcliffe just working his tucus off in front of the whole world. Maybe not a Top 10, but certainly one to remember....

Absolutely! It saddens me that Carol has passed away this month. I absolutely adore these women, but considering my current age and location I'll never see one of them in person.

Rannells and I Believe deserve more than an honorable mention. That was the first time in a very long lifetime of watching the Tony Awards that I saw a Tony performance and it immediately made me want to buy the cast album and see the show.

I'm adding Waving Through a Window to this list in my head XD

Not even a honorable mention of Newsies? That broke my heart and I also though Hamilton should be higher on the list😣

Right!

While the Lion King and Dream Girls are not my fave shows (loved both, though), I think Circle of Life and I'm Telling You are the two best performances. I mean Jennifer Holiday was just straight up acting and singing her tale off. No one has rocked the Tony stage like her ever. Circle of Life is just crazy original and so amazing! I could watch those two performances over and over.

frankennyg1 Yes! And tbh...she has held tge title of "The Number 1 Best Tony Award Perormance Of All Time" for over 30 YEARS! At this point i can't imagine anyone else taking the slot!

How Grand Hotel is not included is a sin. The joy Michael Jeter exudes is amazing.
