    Take my advice, I've carried a tomahawk. One with a short handle under 16" or has no weight in the head is not as useful. You need the longer handle to get more speed into the swing. You need weight in the head to put power into the swing. Another hint, keep the blade sharp. So pick a tomahawk of decent carbon steel not stainless.

    Lighter weight = increased head speed. Like different weight baseball bats. Is increased head speed better? Maybe if you have to defend yourself with it. Could it be for better balance, for throwing? For chopping, you are probably right.

  • @hartzogLovesScience

    @hartzogLovesScience

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@voodoo7008 I hear you. But physics states F=ma, so the force delivered will increase with increase acceleration, not speed. But force will decrease with decreased mass. So there is a balanced. But you are right in what a given person can handle. I've know many baseball players who did very well with a heavy bat, while others did the job with a lighter bat. So, you are right that I should not leave out the person in the equation. But, as was stated in the video, physics trumps their claim.

    4:44 The Operatr ax is a good product, well made, I can recommend it for your car tool box. Hell, I'd recommend it for residential remodel, (Light low damage demolition where you want to put nice trim behind it, and recover usable lumber) and frame carpentry. If you're planning on scrapping sheet metal from cars, or stripping ruins for copper to recycle. Urban Survival, and scavenging, that kind of thing. You can even lash it to a handle as a warhammer/pollax if you want to. Hands down the most useful product on this list.

    Okay 00:31 number 1 you said it has skeleton built frame to eliminate top heaviness, but in a ax, war, hammer, tomahawk, or hatchet that is where you want the weight to be. It helps make cuts deeper and hammering easier because of the weight. If you want something light you get a knife for cutting shaving or slicing but a ax or hatchet is made for chopping and or hammering which requires weight to be more efficient.

    Haven't used Gerber since they sold to Fiskars in the 80s. Edges chip and rust far to easily for any use in an amphibious setting. For reliability and budget, the SOG Tactical Tomahawk weighs in at $50 or less on Amazon - throws well, but the cutting head is small. It's still my go-to bday gift for a platoon member or going away, etc. I did check out Hogue (the 1st one), to support a fellow Recon man - but every hawk they have is out of stock. CRKT also out of stock.

    I own the SOG tactical, and like the other SOG's on the list I'm worried about handle design. The semi tang with support colar is a good idea and so far so good but i feel it will be the weak point of the hawk in the long term. I like the weight of it though. As light as a wooden handled cold steel hawk. I wanted a easwing hawk but it's not light but will never need a new handle.

    A combat Tomahawk should have a strait axe head. The curved blade could easily get stuck into a Charly. Taking a couple valuable seconds to rip out. I'd build one a little wider to the back and narrows towards the front so you could still have a decent sized blade with easy removal.

    Loud terrible guitar warns you of mall ninja larping hawks. A hammer poll is so much more useful than a spike. Unless it's for throwing or climbing like a boarding axe definitely get one with a hammer. I love that the 5.11 is based on a harbour frieght style garbage tool.

    They aren't bad. They just have a very specific use. I have my SOGs lashed to different backpacks. They are just right to process a quick campfire on the trail, but not super heavy like a full size ax or hatchet. When hiking every ounce count, I can't hike 20 miles with a full sized Fiskars strapped to me. And they are cheap enough where I won't cry if it gets lost.
