Falkor is the flying dog. I'm going to have to get it* to watch with my wee cousins over Christmas. Dex is great. I recommend it to anyone, especially at 89p. Pillars of the Earth is under 2 quid, pick it up! Chants of Sennaar looks fantastic but their publisher had some really scummy stuff in the EULA (I don't even understand why one is needed for a single player game tbh) and you can't even play the demo without agreeing to it. So, I guess I'll never play it. *Edit: (apparently there are three films 😮 the first two of which are based on the book)

The Neverending Story is pretty much my favourite story ever, both the book and the first film (the second film is passable, the third one doesn't exist to me). As a child I was even a fan of the title song despite not knowing it was related to the story (it was before I learned to speak English and before I'd seen the film, when I was only a fan of the book. Imagine my surprise when I watched the film for the first time!).

Yoku's Island Express is such a great game! Bought it on a whim a couple years ago and absolutely loved it! The combination metroidvania-pinball sounds like it should never work but it works beautifully! Did have a couple of frustrating areas but all in all a great game. I still go back to it once in a while trying to 100% it now that I finished the main story.

I'm going to have to get Lunistice. Looks like a game that's right down my alley. As an alternative hidden gem that wasn't mentioned, I would have to give a shout out to Ugly. Aaah hidden gems, my favourite kind of games. Played so many, got so many in my backlog, and so many more on my wishlist. Hidden gems make me feel alive. The feeling of starting a game hardly anyone talks about, and discovering a fantastic experience, makes me so happy on so many levels! As for the games in this video, I've got A Space for the Unbound, Rain Code, Vernal Edge, Chants of Sennaar and The Excavation of Hob's Barrow all on my wishlist, so I'd say you've done a great job here! I did try the Lunistice demo but as I mentioned a while ago in another of my comments I found the controls too finicky for my taste, but I absolutely understand how it qualifies as a hidden gem. If I were to highlight one of my favourite hidden gems, it would be Woven. Fantastic little game. It starts as a very wholesome 3D platform-puzzle game where you basically play as a plush toy living in a world made of soft textiles, together with a companion mechanical bug of some kind. Your companion gives you the ability to swap your body parts based on patterns you can find, giving you extra abilities, as well as the ability to change colour and texture, which is necessary for some puzzles. And as I wrote it starts very wholesome, with even a narrator that narrates the story as if it was a children's book, but slowly things start to literally unravel and the truth of the setting slowly becomes revealed... and I will stop here but it's a game that I encourage everyone to play, as despite its presentation it's definitely not just a game for young children. No, you cannot really die in that game, but you will get scared! It's still enjoyable by everyone regardless of age, and discovering what the story is about is so satisfying. A true hidden gem in my opinion.

If I had to toss in my two cents i would personally nominate Loop 8 as a hidden gem. I really love the direction they took with a game that was essentially a visual novel but spiced it up with some JRPG mechanics that just seemed to work so well with me and the social elements combined with the looping mechanic on top of the great narrative just worked so well for me personally. I know it was that well received and there was really at all that mulch fanfare once it came out (but I think there was quite a few who really got into it) so I think that makes it deserving of being classified as a hidden gem in all honesty.

For those who want a really relaxing game, consider the Faircroft's Antiques series. It's hidden object scenes mixed with some end-of-chapter 'puzzles', a light story with diverse characters and some of the best and chillest music on switch. Home For Christmas might be the game to start as it is seasonal and has the weirdest art. They get progressively fancier with art.

Lemmings was the first video game I remember playing...being very small at a parents' workplace and playing it on this new fangled invention "computer" off floppy disk... Tin Hearts is quite a delightful little game. I recommend it. During its reveal dev team mbrs chatted with us in the live chat. They seemed excited to share their passion!

Your hidden gem videos are the most dangerous on the channel for me because this is where my wishlist really grows. I hope Santa has me a big Eshop voucher this year or has sent the bill directly to Glen and Mark c/o Switchup KZread channel hahaha 😅

Nice vid. One of the games I’ve sunk a lot of time into, but I never see anyone mention, is “Sky Rogue”. It’s a retro looking game, that has Commodore Amiga vibes, having Rogue-like elements to the gameplay. If you do well on missions, which take place on random maps (maybe procedurally generated?), you get points towards R&D, and you can unlock new planes and weapon types. It’s very addictive, giving a 3rd person perspective of well simulated flight 👌🏻

My favorite sections as well I have to admit.. never know how to search the switch library, this helps so much! In that list only played and loved the Pillars of the Earth game.. read the books a long time ago and discovered the game in one of your videos, so thanks guys. I want to try the Chants of the Senaar, going in my back log :)

I will say Dex has an objectively correct way of approaching combat which kinda hampers the options it can present but overall a nice, neat package

That flying dog is the only thing I remember from The Neverending Story, it was so long ago 😂 The pixel art in Vernal Edge is so pretty, it makes me want to try it even though I don’t really like side scrollers 😍 Cattails is definitely going on my wishlist though!

Where I live (Portland, Oregon, USA) there is an incredible arcade called Ground Kontrol! During the day it's all-ages, and at night it becomes a barcade! Lots of great pinball, lots of cabinet games both new and old. The place is a gem!!!

In America where we have a bunch of homeless cats living in an area people will set up what is sometimes referred to as a cat colony. They leave out food and put out boxes for them to get out of the cold weather and you end up with about 30 or 40 cats just living in that area.

Unmetal is somewhat of a gem. It's a satirical Metal Gear-type game that's maybe a bit too heavy on the hit-and-miss comedy, but it's still worth a try if you're into MGS. (It's not from this year, but it's pretty recent).

I always really enjoy your mentioning of hidden gems! There are many that I have really enjoyed so far because of you😊 As for these, was doubting whether or not to buy a space for the unbound a few weeks ago. Definitely will give it a go in the next sale now! Rain code already on the list and Ken Follet's on the backlog to play soon! Also curious about Sennaar and the excavation! P.S. the dog's name is Falkor!
