Promising Young Woman stands out bc so many female revenge films are centred on what happens to the central character whereas PYW has the best friend seeking vengeance bc the victim is no longer there to have her own voice ; Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is similar bc she uses her pain for both her own Justice and for the forgotten women in the unsolved cases

Carey Mulligan was phenomenal in "Promising Young Woman." I still maintain that she should have won "Best Actress" last year, but Frances McDormand was great as well.

I'm so glad Carey took the role for Promising Young Woman mostly because it's a completely different role than anything she has done. After Pride and Prejudice, she and Rosamund Pike kept getting type cast by the same role in which they're good but it truly limited their skills. With Gone Girl for Pike and Promising Young Woman for Carey, both movies showcase more range and talent for both actresses. It shows that they could do dark roles too than just light-hearted ones

Promising Young Woman was absolutely phenomenal and entertaining. It's nice to see Carey Mulligan do something very different unusual role for her to showcase more of her acting talent. This was such a different role than anything she has ever done

Honourable mention, First wives club. Don't need to swing a sword or shoot a gun for a woman to get revenge.

"Carrie" is the most epic revenge movie ever. You will be cheering on Carrie the entire time, since her bullies were so cruel and unrelenting, and she was no longer oppressed or passive.

Basically Female version of Gerald butler LAW Abiding citizen

I personally like KATE (2021) starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead. She gave an incredible performance as a poisoned assassin with 24 hours to get revenge. Brutal yet thrilling!

Story was average ...only action was good

I know The Professional doesn't exactly fit into this category, but Natalie Portman's character planned and funded her revenge through a professional hitman. I was thinking of that movie while I was watching this list. Also, Lucy is a good revenge film in that she gets back at the men who used her as a drug mule. I like both of those movies.

Personally, I've always loved "Double Jeopardy"

No Gone Girl? That film was brilliant and superbly acted by Rosamund Pike. It's a fantastic revenge movie. Amy is the ultimate woman scorned. To not include it is an enormous oversight.

While she is a woman scorned, she is also a sociopath who messed with multiple lives and killed a man! Her “revenge” was not in any way justified like in the other movies.

I'm quite surprised that "Extremities" (1986) starring Farrah Fawcett didn't make this list! I'll never forget seeing that when I was 10 the year it was released. Extremities was the first film I saw that effected how I felt and made me root for the victim's vengeance. "I Spit On Your Grave" (1978) was the second film to control how I felt.

Extremities was a Television movie if I recall so I guess it wouldn't count but yes I was feeling that movie and Farrah let that man HAVE. IT! She told her roommates to STFU if they didn't like what was going on. I was there for it ha ha!

I only saw extremities last year (at age 36!) My goodness, that film gets under your skin. It's full on and a brilliant performance by Fawcett

One hidden gem is almost a revenge film, Geena Davis in "The Long Kiss Goodnight." The character Charlene Elizabeth "Charlie" Baltimore is a one-woman-killing machine in that film.

This was such a badass movie. I remember my mom renting this movie from Blockbuster as a kid. People don't talk about this movie enough

A Vigilante - Olivia Wilde made such an impact and she was spectacular.

I really enjoyed Jennifer garner in peppermint she's such a badass 🙂💯

There is no movie better than "Kill bill" for women seeking revenge stories.

Kill Bill is actually ONE WHOLE film, just divided in two volumes

First the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movies from Sweden are much better than the Daniel Craig one. Secondly, I know the action wasn't completed by her but Leon the Professional should be on the list.

One of the EARLY revenge films that ended up having a huge influence on the genre was Pam Grier in Coffy and Foxy Brown! These films had a major impact on Tarantino and Kill Bill ... all these films should be included

Promising Young Woman is a movie that sticks with you because of its amazing acting, dialogue, cinematography, but most importantly it's story and twist ending. Anything that Emerald Fennell writes is an instant masterpiece in my mind.

My thoughts exactly, it should of been on this list! It's a crime that more people don't know about it. You're right about it not being a straight forward revenge film as it has so many different layers to it, but when the revenge is served, it is unlike any other!

Number One spot is a masterpiece.

Absolutely nailed the #2 & #1 slots! Those just HAD to be the top two, and in that order. Oh, and add to the honorable mentions: The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane

I love most of these films. Hard candy is a personal favourite. There is so many In this genre and they're all pretty sweet. If you haven't seen "Revenge!" Give it a go. Last act of the movie is like PUBG lol. I was impressed with Peppermint and I think it's getting a sequel.

Have you ever seen "Lady Beware" from the 80s? Very satisfying revenge film. The revenge is bloodless, but more realistic, like anyone of us could actually manage it.

Revenge was amazing, love films that just hit you in your primal instinct to just want to see people that have done you wrong dead loved it !!!!

I haven’t watched the entirety of “Promising Young Woman” but Carey Mulligan as Cassie scared the crap out of me. She turned from being nice into complete sociopath, pulling the strings of almost anybody who denied that they watched Nina’s assault. I watched some clips of the film and Mulligan’s immaculate performance had me on edge. Carey Mulligan is such an underrated actress. Also, it’s too bad Netflix’s “Do Revenge” isn’t on this list. Both Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke gave electrifying performances as female teen sociopaths who calculate their revenge plots with terrifying smiles.

My favorite is Revenge!! I watched it so many times and I still love it!!😁

Hard Candy has to either be on this list or at least an honorable mention. 🍬

A Vigilante is really, REALLY underappreciated

I liked Enough too it's probably not high on everyone's list, but as someone who has gone through domestic violence I could really feel her pain. So yeah, I liked it.

Kill Bill films, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo(read the books too), Promising Young Woman and Lady Vengeance are faves. Still need to watch Villainess and Revenge films.

Kill Bill was, of course, a fantastic movie. It’s one of my top favorite movies. The ending for the first, imho, one sort of made most of her bloody satisfaction a moot point.

I absolutely adore Kill Bill and Uma Thurman's performance in it. Tarantino is one of my favorite directors. However, Pam Grier was very overlooked on this list. Her starring role/film Coffy was a revenge tale. Also the martial arts film Chocolate (though she's a child, she kicks ass!) and Firestarter with Drew Barrymore should have made the cut. Kick Ass was great!! Hard Candy is a good, very twisted film. BUT to me, it makes you wonder if he was set up or if he really was a child predator. There were a few on here that I have either heard of and haven't seen, or have not heard of at all, such as Promising Young Woman. And I'm kind of surprised that La Femme Nikita, Klute and Eye for an Eye weren't even mentioned on the list.

…’Promising Young Woman’ is ALMOST a revenge flick. While the murderer is arrested; as an audience we have NO assurance that he will b found guilty. (What he did to Nina was on video; & he was not charged with a crime.) The systematic/societal/media response is SO overwhelming that even with bodies/videos/confessions; the response is bewilderment and true crime stories.

I’m so glad kill is high on this list it is well deserved!
