Surprised by the lack of Messenger of Peace, saw that card WAY more then most of this list during the classic era of yugioh. Maybe it was just the meta I was in, but it showed up a lot more then some of the other flood gates because you could shut it off, so it saw play outside of Exodia, mill, and burn stall decks.

I don't think there was any meta with half of the cards on this list either in yugioh topdecks or retroactive playing on format library. Mirage, Prohibition, Limit Area B, Card of Safe Return, Chain Emergy and Wave Motion cannon are fine on the list but others are not.

@@lucalanuzza9630 Mirage saw play but during the days I played there weren't enough ways to special summon for card of safe return to reliably pay for itself, that came later. Personally, speaking as some one who played from the beginning and won thousands of dollars in tournaments, and still has a trophy or two in my closet, I actually can't recall a single continuous spell outside of Mirage of Nightmare that I ever used. But I did face Messenger of Peace in tournaments a number of times, not usually in the finals, but it wasn't uncommon in top 8.

Probably worth noting that Solomon also used it in a filler tournament after Waking the Dragons.
Mirage of Nightmare could have a retrain where the draw and discard are a single mandatory effect even if removed from the field, and it would probably still see play because of discard and graveyard effects, and just for the chance of drawing a hand trap that would be live during your opponent's turn.
Chain Energy is a staple in my stall/burn deck. I always get at least 1000 LP worth of burn damage.

Despia player here, combining 2x Chain Energy with Masquerades of Blazing Dragon is satisfying, especially if I can summon 2 or 3 Masquerades on the first turn. Even if opponent has Lightning Storm in their hand they get 2200 LP damage to activate it from hand, and then still need to choose between taking 1000 damages per hand movement, or 1200 damages per effect activation.

You really have come far mr. Logs ❤
The mirage of nightmare/emergency provisions combo was even used in the Yu-gi-oh GX anime by Jaden.
As a kid, one of my opponent's tried to convince me that Ground Collapse allowed you to fusion summon by stacking the monster cards on top of each other (Overlay years before even the idea of monsters like Cyber Dragon and the Monarchs were a thing, let alone Xyz) and the resulting fusion had the materials combined stats. So he claimed his "Gaia the Dragon Champion" had 4300 ATK and I just took it out with a Dark Hole and won anyways.

i LOVE to play chain energy in the first duel of a Bo3 at my Locals. Most decks dont have alot of reliabe Backrow removal and usually sidedeck most of it. So in game 1 you often times floodgate your opponent with it. Its quite fun to watch them be frustrated as they have to stop mid combo because they are down to like 2000 Life Points. And in game 2 and 3 your opponent has to deal with mindgames.. does he replace something for Backrow removal anticipating i keep Chain Energy in? Does he try to predict that i replace chain energy with Monsters to benefit from him replacing vital cards with Backrow removal? ehehehe :D

Can also extend it to 15 if I use A Feather of the Phoenix on one of the Giant Trunades.
I wonder if Mirage of Nightmare would actually be AS broken as it used to be back when it was legal? Don't know about TCG or OCG but I know that in Master Duel, most players more often than not actually end their turn (Especially their first turn) with 3-4 cards still in their hands (More than likely several handtraps or just straight up bluffs) making this card's usage moot. With most games being determined within less than 3-4 turns anyway and what I've just mentioned, isn't it a bit too slow nowadays (A bit like how no one seems to play Spellbook of Judgment or Super Rejuvenation anymore)?

It actually works with Ectoplasmer and even deals 800 damage each turn that way as opposed to only 400 and also works around Ectoplasmer's disadvantage of being mandatory. Basically the card is made to combo with Ectoplasmer, but even if you shoot 800 damage each turn it's not good enough, so even with Mass Driver's 400 it wouldn't be too strong.

Card of Safe Return + Manticore was goated
I'm surprised Card of Safe Return isn't higher. It wasnt as strong in its own day when special summons from the gy were rarer but still always potentially busted and could never be unbanned without an errata now.
13:28 it is so common, even the people in the anime used it and said it was a good combo
0:40 Artwork reminds me of Negate Attack
😅 I play Ground collapse in Kashtira. It speeds up the lock down and I happen to have pulled a Royal Rare.
Technically Kaiser Colosseum didn’t see much play until the Xyz era and is completely useless in goat and Edison format. As a kid I had the amazing foresight to see the potential in this card but the game was at a point that the speed didn’t matter much but I still ran it in my schoolyard deck because it looked cool.
As much as I love to see Stumbling at number 6 - staple in my old video game decks - I think Card Of Safe Return deserves a higher placement; Spear Cretin, Manticore Of Darkness and The Creator with Card Of Safe Return are absurd.
3:41 Idea to make this card better: _Draining Shackles_ Equip Spell _Equip only to an opponent’s monster, and if you do, their ATK/DEF is reduced to 0, and you gain LP equal to the amount decreased. Kaiser Colosseum was great if you had a monster card on the field that couldn't be destroyed by battle. You can then knock down your opponent's life points using spell and cards. I loved that card.
Chain Energy brings up the point that most TCGs tend to favor multiple countering or negating over imposing extra costs on the opponent. I wonder why that is.

Some cards are so broken that they can never come off the banlist even with an errata that severely nerfs it to the point that it becomes unplayable in the competitive scene and in some cases like pot of greed is just impossible to errata and not make it unplayable for almost every retrain of pot of greed is used in at least one competitive deck in at least one format

2:02 Idea to make a Quick-Play version of this card: _Magnetic Accelerator Cannon_ Equip Spell _Equip only to a Machine Monster you control. The Equipped monster gains ATK equal to its original DEF, and DEF equal to its original ATK. Tribute 1 monster from your hand or field, except the equipped monster: Inflict Damage to your opponent equal to that tribute’s ATK or DEF (Whichever is higher, your choice if tied), and after you do, the equipped monster cannot attack, and it’s effects are negated, for the rest of the turn. You can only use this effect of “Magnetic Accelerator Cannon” Once Per Turn._ My headcanon would be that the card would be like if Megatron swapped out his Fusion Canon for a Halo Super MAC. Just this giant arm cannon that would be hilariously destructive.

Ground collapse would be instant banned if it ever get released on duel links
0:24 This gives me an “anti-zone-lock” card: _Zone Eruption_ Quick-Play Spell _Can only be activated if you are prevented from placing cards in 1 or more of your Monster and/or Spell/Trap zones by an opponent’s card or effect. For each Monster or Spell/Trap zone you are prevented from placing cards in, Inflict 500 damage to your opponent, then, you can gain LP equal to the amount of damage inflicted. You can activate this card from your GY or Banishment, and if you do, this card is shuffled into your deck after its effect resolves. You can only activate 1 “Zone Eruption” per turn._ So the above card is meant to punish your opponent should they get greedy in locking you out of the game. A full lockdown of ALL your zones by their efforts would result in an even 5000 damage to your opponent, while also upping your LP by that amount. It might not win duels against meta Zone-Locking decks like Kash. by itself, but it would at least give you a fighting chance to hurt them and buy you some time to get Plan B ready.
ground collapse is still useful

5:34 Idea to make a card that’s even better, BUT it applies to both players: _Card of Safe Haven_ Continuous Trap _You can activate this card from your hand immediately after a monster(s) is Special Summoned from the GY and/or Banishment. Unaffected by the effects of other cards while a monster that was Special Summoned from the GY or Banishment is Face-Up on the field. Cards and effects that prevent monsters from being Special Summoned for the GY or Banishment cannot be activated, and any that are already in effect are Immediately negated. If a Monster(s) is Special Summoned from the GY or Banishment, Both players can apply 1 of the following effects for each monster that was summoned: ⚫️Draw 1 card. ⚫️Gain LP Equal to the summoned monster’s Total ATK/DEF. ⚫️Shuffle 1 card they own from the GY or Banishment back into their deck._
7:29 This gives me an idea for a Monster that grows stronger the longer it’s out on the field: _Nimbus, Lord of The Gathering Storm_ (WIND) Level 1 _Winged-Beast/Tuner/Effect_ _You can only control 1 “Nimbus, Lord of The Gathering Storm”. If only your opponent controls a monster, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). This card’s Level and ATK/DEF cannot be altered by the effects of other cards. Gains 1 Level and 500 ATK/DEF during the beginning of each phase. If this card attacks a defense position monster, Inflict piercing battle damage. After this card inflicts battle damage to your opponent, revert this card’s level and ATK/DEF back to its Original values._ ATK/500 DEF/500
12:50 Idea to make this card better, BUT make it so it applies for both players: _Mirage of Horrors_ Continuous Spell _There is no limit to the hand size for each player. Neither Player’s turns or turn phases can be skipped by card effects. One per turn, during their opponent’s standby phase: The Turn Player can draw 4 cards. If they do, during your next Standby Phase after that: They randomly discard the same number of cards they drew (or their entire hand, if they do not have enough cards)._ THERE, the card is mutually beneficial to both players, by A: Protecting them from effects that would make the skip their phases and even their entire turns, B: Providing them a built-in “Infinite Cards”, and C: giving BOTH players the chance to use the OG Mirage’s effects. Now they card hypothetically provides even MORE bang for it’s buck, but with the caveat that it confers those effects to the card user’s opponent.
6:42 Idea to make this card better at mucking up your opponent’s battle capabilities: _Aura of Dread_ Equip Spell _Equip only to a monster you control. When this card is activated, all monsters your opponent controls are changed to defense position, and any that do not have their ATK/DEF decreased to 0. Any monster that is Summoned is changed to defense position, and any that do not have their ATK/DEF to 0. You gain LP, and the Equipped monster gains ATK/DEF, equal to any ATK/DEF decreases caused by this card._ So basically the card either forces summoned monsters to play defensively, OR it punishes those that physically cannot (like Link monsters) or those that try to resist this card’s effects by draining their ATK/DEF and conferring those drained amounts to you and the equipped monster.
Ah, prohibition. Ive tried doing some playground rules (only in so far as none of the participants are judges and we may have made some interesting rules interpretations) progression series with my bro a few times before, but never made it all the way through. In most, we both found the value of prohibition, but probably my favorite interaction around it was introducing my brother to a last turn OTK deck. I knew the infamy of the deck, and just declared my win once the jougen lock was established, but that just left my bro in a panic of "let me read the cards!". So, where does prohibition fit into the story? The clear toxicity of the interaction resulted in an outburst of "OK, let me just stick something in my side deck (in case you get this bright idea again). Done, time for the next set." Sure, he didnt say what card he added into his side deck, but in the context of both of us having used prohibition earlier in that same session and lacking any real alternatives, it was pretty clear prohibition was his choice, especially with how quickly he found the card. But that was also where that particular progression series ended, admittedly in small part to try and let him forget the last turn OTK so i could surprise him with it again, but never got back around to it and we would more likely just start over at this point. XD
Very Strange. Why are most of this cards banned? MMMM? STRANGE? I also still play Prohibition. Call Super Poly or Skill Drain!

Hello everyone!

Personally I gotta disagree with 3 & 4, I would swap them. Kaiser is nuts, and LevelLimitB isn't as effective since Links and XYZ.
@djkates1916
26 күн бұрын
Key words: *Since Links and Xyz.* Remember that this list is in the context of the DM and GX eras, before even Synchros were a thing, let alone monsters without Levels. In modern YGO, you would be correct; Kaiser Colosseum (if legal) would be *far* better than Level Limit - Area B. Back then, it was a different story. Flooding the field with monsters that actually did something was a lot harder (meaning that Kaiser Colosseum was less impactful), and the monsters that could play well under Level Limit - Area B were more deck-specific (meaning Level Limit - Area B was more impactful). That's not to say that Kaiser Colosseum was *bad,* because it wasn't. It was just harder to use effectively. Also impacting the usefulness of Kaiser Colosseum was the fact that most boss monsters didn't have good built-in protection, meaning you had to use additional resources to keep a monster around. (And remember, if Kaiser Colosseum's controller controls no monsters, Kaiser Colosseum doesn't do anything.)
