Just a note, you don't have to seam seal the Lanshan unless it's the single skin pro version. The double wall version is factory sealed 👍

Cheers for that info. I purchased the single skin version, and couldn't be arsed with the faff of seam sealing it (lazy git that I am). But I shall pin this post so that its clearer for viewers. Cheers!

@@SummitOrNothing cheers trev. A lot of people get them mixed up as there's so many variations with the double skin, pro and plus versions I see it all the time. Even had someone comment on my review vid that I had the pro not the plus and didn't know what I was talking about. Mmmh, had it a year when I did the video so pretty sure 🤣

On the non-pro versions (maybe only some of them?) you still needed to seal the 2 guy tie-outs and (if you wish) the 4 corner ties. They have reinforced cross-stiching (looks like a rectangle with an X in it) which goes all the way through the fly and the circular seam tape that seals the non-reinforced bit.

@@MattGriffiths81 you are correct. I sealed my guy out points as they leaked but a lot of people assume you have to do the whole thing and get mixed up with the pro. 👍

Love my Lanshan 1 original. Every time I pitch it, it (or I) gets better! 😄 Tried a unusual 130cm length pole last time and I actually think it's better as the bathtub and inner gets lifted more, offering more room. Sooo versatile! 👍🏼

One of the most common mistakes with the Lanshans is trying to keep the fly at ground level with too low a pole. Pushing the pole higher gives better structure and much better ventilation. Of course that doesn't work so well in snow!

Great job mate, cool for me to see choices from across the pond. My guess is that Big Agnes might be difficult to acquire or perhaps people just prefer other tents. For me a free standing is optimal and the 2p Copper Spur has been great. However, as I get older, I get colder. So I am in search of a 4-season tent. The ability to set inner and outer at the same time is primo. Thanks for some fresh information. from the Old . 💙🙏💛

I want another spooky Dartmoor Tale!! The tents are interesting - I've had a Lanshan 1 Pro, the lightest of the Lanshan series at 700g, for a couple of years now, and it's a great ultralight fairweather option. Bought initially for stealthy lockdown getaways in my local woods, I've been impressed by how much further you can push it. Best all-round tent for UK backpacking? Tarptent Scarp 1 does it for me - I hope you get the chance to review one of these soon.

Interesting as always. I have too many tents as it is; a Hubba Hubba, a Lanshan 1 plus, a DD Mesh A-frame tent & tarp, and a Hex Peak v4a. Love them all for different reasons. The Hubba Hubba is my 5 star hotel - so much room, the Lanshan is a compromise on weight and space, the DD A-frame tent and superlight tarp for forest and woodland camps and the Hex Peak for windy hillsides here in Wales. If I had to settle for one, it's the Hubba Hubba every time.

I bought the Cloud Up 2 updated version a month ago for multiple trips I am making with my dog since I normally sleep in my hammock. I loved how easy it was to set up, the fact it comes with a groundsheet is a nice bonus, it was light enough and after 15 nights in it, I can say it performed well in wet weather and high winds. I also liked it was free standing since I had to pitch it on rock one night to avoid the low ground in the rain and it was nice to just move it around to where I want. It is by no means a 4 season tent in you live in Canada. There is no snow skirt and no way or sealing up the screening between the two layers. It is a 3 season tent and I guess Natruehike assumes if it has 2 layers they can say it is a 4 season tent. Anyway, I love it and would recommend it too. Wish I could get my hand on these Vango tents in Canada but I think they are only in the UK but seem like a well made tent too.

I'm a fan of the DD tarp. If combined with a DD Travel hammock, (which is waterproof) you can either use as traditional hammock with tarp if there are trees, or make a tarp tent and the hammock doubles up as a bivvy with bug net. Or other tarp options like ploughpoint or lean-to etc.. not seen it done but I bet with a bit of DIY one could maybe add a stove jack to a tarp tent for hot tarp?

To solve the issue of zips snagging on the cloud peak 2 I use a small piece of velcro wrapped around the end of the pole next to the zip and attached to the zip cover flap. This holds the flap clear of the zip and prevents snagging. I have found snagging more probable when flysheet is. wet 0:02

I just bought a Helm 1 and highly reccomend it. It comes in Helm 1 and 2, and think you showed a mixed specs of the two there, as the Helm 1 is defo under 2kg, and also less than £200 (I paid £140). The Helm 2 has 2 doors and has the weight and RRP you mentioned. The Helm 1 won the award this year (last year?), but the Helm 2 has also won previous awards. Most people who want space go for the Helm 2. The aditional weight is quite minimal for the amount of extra space you get. I only went for the Helm 1 as I wanted a low floor footprint, but didn't fancy the coffin feel of tunnel tents! It seemed the best intro to 1 man tent camping, and will see me through most adventures I'll be having. I prob will get myself a lanshan at some point. That does seem a perfect multi day hiking tent.

I bought a quechua quickhiker 2 from Decathlon 2 years ago. A bit on the heavy side but perfect for South African conditions. I do believe NatureHike is a good brand but if you on a budget the quechua quickhiker 2 is great. I prefer a 2 man tent as I prefer keeping my bag inside. Don't want no snake or scorpion making itself comfortable in my hiking luggage😁

No chance you'd ever get me in a Lanshan. I'm 6"3. For me it is number 2 on the list. The Cloud Peak 2. A bit on the short side, but it is a push to get a tent long enough for me, and this is the best I've found .... so far

Please have a look at the Hyke&Byke zion 1P. I'm 6'3 200lbs and it's the same spec as the MSR Elixir.. and only £109 .. have a look the company have been fantastic. Its been my go to tent now, used in the Arrochar Alps and Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. Very versatile 👌

You tried a lanshan pro tent they are a lot more roomy than the standard lanshan, I'm 6.3 and just fitted in length wise

I'm not 100% liking the single skin for the Scottish climate. Fair weather it would work well and the weight is incredible fir multi-day hikes. It's definitely a tent that I've given much thought to but haven't ventured with yet. Never say Never.. but for the moment I'm incredibly surprised and pleased with the quality of the Zion 1P

I was looking at a VW California, but realised at around 72k its never going to happen, so at one hundredth of the cost, I will get a North Face Summit series Assault 2, single skin tent, easy to put up and simple. 720 quid is a lot for a tent, but nothing compared to a VW camper van. Edit, coming from Scotland a tarp tent would be no use in this midgie infested land

I didnt take part so am wondering what was the criteria and how the scores are calculated. Anyhow, I am sure we would like this to run again soon for 2023 given this video is 11 months ago. Can it be split out between 1p and 2p tents? categories then the general favourite?

I just ask people to comment on a community post to which are their favourite tents and then just tally up the results. I think I' probably do this every two years to get different results though, as this past year I havent earned too many new subscribers due to inactivity on my behalf!

Isnt it like £800? I think the term budget tent only really defines any tent under £200 and a lot of my viewers are budget campers, which is why I think the Hilleberg didnt make the list this time around.

I just don't know how the so-called top-end tent manufacturers are still in business. How do they get away with charging two or three times more for what is increasingly a very similar product to the way-cheaper competition? Naturehike and 3Ful Gear tents seem to be getting better and better all the time. Really can't see a future for likes of MSR, Big Agnes etc. etc. Can someone tell me what I'm failing to see?
