Not only it stays in the games, even though Sword and Shield did remove quite a handful moves, but it was TM in every single generation until Gen7 and is TR in Gen8, so the number of Pokémon that can learn this move is increased by that and that increases chances children will actively play with this funny move in games.

probably because it was Pikachu that was responsible but they couldn't get rid of the series mascot who was also a part of the main cast so poor old Porygon ended up as a scapegoat.

I'm still mad that Porygon and its evolutions were banned from appearing the Pokemon anime. Porygon had literally nothing to do with the flashing lights that caused the seizures. It was Pikachu's Thunderbolt that caused it.

What's crazy is that I remember seeing the Tentacruel episode a *lot* as a kid and then even as a 6-7 year old I realized that Kids WB never played it anymore. The clip of it was always in the episode intros which helped me remember it, but as a kid I had no idea that it was never played because of 9/11.

While I understand not wanting to bring up feelings of earthquakes, tsunamis, etc. I find nothing wrong with a delay of the episode but indefinitely is not right. Furthermore, why ban Earthquake, Fissure, and Magnitude because of an earthquake? It is a force of nature there isn't anything wrong with FICTIONAL supernatural creatures using them. What's next? No fire moves, Magmar, Entei, etc. because of a volcanic eruption? No Whirlwinds or Gust because of a Tornado? Delay an episode or use of a move temporarily sure, but don't ban it outright. That's just asking to completely stop the series and possibly games.

The episode was banned because in 1997 or 1998 685 Japanese kids had a seizure due to the lights that were flashing red and white or blue so porygon was banned in the anime show

I love how Pokémon bans an episode for using guns while Digimon literally has a character who not only holds revolvers but IS a revolver...

The reason for banning the Passimian episode is just dumb. There is a clear reason why they are painting Ash (and dressing him up) and it couldn't be misunderstood in any way... it wasn't misunderstood when it was originally aired, so there's no need to ban it in any way... "Why does Ash have a black face?" "To look like these ape Pokémon" "Duuuh thats like so racist" Only idiots would think this way... and if they wanted to, they could just have edited his face to make it look normal. He's still dressed up, so they would probably still think he's one of them :P

@@tabbithagordon2403 In an interview after the incident, a voice actor for the show (if I recall correctly) said that they wanted people to forget that the episode ever even existed. That's why Porygon was banned, to not remind people of this episode. Just think of the kind of Johto episode we could've gotten with Porygon2. Or what kind of a Sinnoh episode we could've gotten for Porygon-Z. The lost possibilities...

I still remember when we first saw his Taurouses (Tauri?). I was wondering when the hell did he catch them? I did know about the Porygon episode and knew a couple episodes didnt air in the states. But I never thought theyd ban an episode as significant as one with a capture.

Electric Soldier Porygon being banned also affected the English dub. Holiday Hi-Jynx (also on this list) and Snow Way Out were intended to follow that episode but ended up being aired as part of season 2 (between It's Mr Mime Time and Showdown at the Po-Ke Corral). This causes continuity errors like Ash having Charmander instead of Charizard, Misty still having her Starmie and Horsea, and Misty not having Togepi.

South Koreans: adapt Japanese media Also South Koreans: refuse to show Japanese Culture (Btw Japanese did similar things with Korean media)

1. South Korea had no choice but to accommodate Japanese media in their modern culture as they were the Empire of Japan's first & longest colony (1910-1945) 2. South Korea "banning" Japanese culture was an actual thing back until the '90's, to the point that even animé OP & ED were entirely remixed & translated 3. *Japan rightfully deserves it.* (even the 2 atomic bombs) They haven't apologized for all of their sins beginning from the Wukou pirates, the 1592-1598 invasions, the 1895 assassination of Empress Myeongseong, & their annexation & colonization (1910-1945)

I am not sure if I am correct or not, because nobody is certain about it, but there was another episode (from the Advanced generation) which was probably banned. The name of the episode could allegedly be translated as "Kiss under the Misletoe". According to many people, it showcased a scene where Ash (Satoshi) and May (Haruka) kissed. To anybody wondering why it wasn't problematic when Serena kissed Ash, they actually didn't show the kissing scene of Serena and Ash explicitly; there was just indication towards the fact that she kissed him. However, according to popular belief, May and Ash kissed in "Kiss under the Misletoe" and their faces were shown. So, many parents complained about this as both of the characters were 10-year olds. According to popular belief, within two days of the episode being aired, it was withdrawn and it was never sent for dubbing in any other language. However, its existence is still questionable because many people say that such an episode hasn't even existed ever. So, at the end, I don't think that anybody can strongly claim that it was banned because after all, there are chances that it never existed.

I still can't believe that Passimian episode was banned. It's not like the make up Ash was wearing was offending black ppl. It was just for disguise. If I was a black person, I wouldn't care about Ash wearing the make up

It is likely because Pokemon was still young and the development team were making mistakes and they learned from those mistakes later, which is why more of the banned episodes are older ones.

Of course Jynx had nothing to do with blackface. I knew that when I was a kid. What she is is a creature from Japanese folklore (evidence of this can be seen when she faints in Pokemon Stadium where everything but her hair disappears) and her face can also be a makeup style certain pop stars use. What shocks me is when I see people today still making that stupidly absurd claim.

Delayed is not the same as banned though.

Nope, Polish. It was 9/11 that got this episode temporarily banned. It's back in the air now. Although, kinda funny that they banned the episode but left a shot from it untouched in the opening theme.

Funny how America banned the tower of terror because “it’ll remind America of 9/11” but Disney still has rides in those names...

I'm still upset that Porygon and its evolutions never made an appearance aft er "Electric Soldier". The strobe effect wasn't even its fault anyway

8. Well, Bulldoze DID appear in an episode of the XY series. 1. AAAAND Porygon and its evolved forms were never seen in the anime series again.

Still gives me chills.

_Electric Soldier Porygon_ not only affected animation practices, it also spurred changes to some video games that also featured strobe light flashing. Two of the games I know of that had this effect was _Sonic the Hedgehog 2_ for the SEGA Master System (during the final battle) and _Mario Kart 64_ (the Zapper item produced this effect).

I remember the beedrill samurai episode... it was released on VHS when i was a kid 😆

On the Dratini episode I'm somewhat surprised that 4kids didn't just edit out the guns and Meowth's mustache in one scene.

Seto Kaiba bought that edit and pt the stipulation for it not to be used anywhere else.

I remember hearing rumors that "Legend of Dratini" and "Electric Soldier Porygon" were dubbed into English. Since they were banned for obvious reasons (instead of airing in prime-time where there's little issue with censorship with an 8 PM showing), they're probably sitting dust somewhere in NYC.

If you ask me, the international airings of the anime have been very unfair. For The Legend of Dratini, guns may be used a lot, but they've appeared in PLENTY of other episodes that WEREN'T banned. Electric Soldier Porygon was understandable, but they could've fixed it by removing the strobe effects.

I will admit there are just moments where I wish some of my favorite shows like Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh or any Game related anime series would be for older audiences so that we can see the show and it’s true colors. Not that I don’t mind the kid friendly version or anything it’s just I feel like whatever deleted scenes or deleted episodes I missed feel like a lie

There aren't any banned episodes, unless you count season zero. The last seasons of gx and 5D's never aired cause lack of money and konami was pressuring 4Kids to start dubbing 5Ds.

I mean come on, the main villain at the end of 5Ds got completely forgotten about... I kinda feel bad for Z-One, he had one of the more epic backstories and duel in the series... >_>

It’s nice knowing that I got to see a decent amount of these (that showed in the US) before they were banned

Update in the blu-ray set that came out in 2017 challenge of the samurai, tower of terror, and tentacool and tentacruel are in the set

So most of these are banned because of tragic events that weren't exactly related

You should be more or less easily able find all of these episodes (except for the Barboach one, obviously) from the internet with simple Google searches.

The scene where tentacruel smashes the building was part of the original opening credits, yet they left that intact.

Tentacool and Tentacruel was actually banned twice. It was banned again in 2005 after the events of Hurricane Katrina, since the episode also had the city underwater, which is similar to the huge floods that Katrina had

I'm still mad about the BW Plasma episodes, I was really excited about that :(...

It’s crazy remembering seeing some of these kanto/indigo episodes when I was a kid when they first came out😂😂

They need to remake these episodes, while fixing what was wrong with the episodes in question, and air them. I personally think it would be great to see them widely spread with edited scenes or replacement scenes.

There is nothing wrong with none of these episodes. Having unfortunate timings with natural catastrophes is not something wrong with the episodes. Nor having a Samurai on the screen. Nor having Ash paint himself like a Pokemon or Jynx having black skin. People are just overly sensitive. If, only the Porygon episode with the Flashes should be edited.

The network these days are too sensitive about them. It wasn't like they predicted them but if they edited the episodes we would've known. It feels like they don't want us to learn anything and erase anything related to such disasters.

Daniel waugh I’m not talking about the natural catastrophe things. I’m talking about Electric Soldier Porygon (epilepsy issues can be fixed with new animations), the Icy Path episode (recolor Jynx) the Passimian episode (reanimate the scenes so that the costume has barely any similarity to blackface) and the Safari Zone episode (have any references to or use of guns removed; maybe have Dratini attack Team Rocket rather than shooting at them)

Unfortunately remaking those episodes would cost them more money then they would make off of them. From a business perspective it's a waste of time and money to go back and try to fix those episodes since the series that they appeared in have mostly already ended for years now.

Beauty and the beach got super edited because of misty competing in a beauty competition as it’s seen as disturbing for a 12/13 year girl to be seen as sexy but in Japan the legal age is 13 so it’s okay to show off your bikini body at that age I guess So they randomly just make ash’s mum win and she gives the money to ash

In the episode “an undersea place to call home” wich is obviously a play on the RMS Titanic, I’m surprised to think that they didn’t ban that episode after the WORST maritime disaster in history even 100 years later it would still bring up thoughts from the survivors and the family of the survivors…
