Well done video - well thought through preparation. I have always included a set of long handle tree pruners - usefull for ajusting low hanging shubbery and chopping up thick twigs for the camp fire

I've also got a pair of plastic portable vehicle ramps for my double axle trailer. If you do a bearing you don't need to jack the car up on the side of the road, just shove the ramps under the unoffending axle and it lifts the other axle up as you drive it up. Also serves as a leveling blocks for a caravan.

That's a really well thaught out spare parts/tool box you have setup. I usually carry anti-sieze, and a bottle of brake fluid and power steering fluid with me on long jaunts. I didn't see silicon grease. Very useful for electrical, but also makes things slide that are sticking, yet won't attract sand, dirt, grit like normal grease. Just wipe it on, rub it in, wipe it off leaving a slick film. Also, a small sewing kit can come in handy. Oh, and stuff some various sized bills (money) into an envelope and hide it somewhere inside your rig. I usually do a bit in my truck, and bit in my trailer in the event one is totaled or burns up. This money is good for getting you going in the event your plastic money gets damaged, lost or the bank puts a lock on it for some fraud issues. Or if you need to pay for some help and they don't do card. Having cash on hand has saved my trip on several occasions.

Good run down mate 👍 I pretty much carry the same gear when I go remote. Something I found handy on my travels that wasn't mentioned is an exhaust jack.

Great work Cammo, just a tip, that HTB2 is some of the worst wheel bearing grease you can buy, I do my wheel bearing every 2 months on my trailers as they travel so far and best thing I ever did was change over to a waterproof good quality grease, dropped bearing temps by 15 degrees and havnt dropped a wheel bearing since, normally had one drop maybe twice a year!! I now use belray marine bearing grease.. massive difference!

Good lot of gear my last trip I did 2 trailer plugs and about half a metre of trailer wire on a creek crossing in the gulf near Lawn Hill

Interesting you say that. Have already seen a few people do trailer plugs on some of these bad tracks. Looking at installing a wireless trailer connection soon! It's called WiTi, it's also an anti theft system.

Nah didn't bring any. But have a few plugs not being used on the power board in the canopy I could rob if I had to!

Mate just a quick tip could be a good idea to grab an extra wheel bearing for the van as our MDC camper flogged both out . I replaced them with a good Japanese brand as I think the Chinese one's are not up to scratch. Talk my neighbour's into one so I did his bearings the day he got it home.Still got our MDC and love it after many many trips cheers.

As said above, I'd recommend checking the supplied wheel bearings in the MDC and possibly changing them out to Japanese before the trip. I've used a mob called Traveling Wheel Bearings, they come to you, their service and advice is second to none. As something I didn't hear you mention you carry as a spare is tyre valves and wheel studs for the car. Have a great trip Mate.

Cheers mate. Watching the bearings, and prepared to swap them out whenever it happens with the Timkens I've got packed. I've got spare studs for the trailer, which Im pretty sure I could stick on the dmax if I had to.

Oh and I do have spare valves too! But can always rob them from your spare tyres if you have to! Have done it before 😂

Good set up! Make sure your Lock Tight isn't expired though. It drys out and doesn't work to well if at all. What about a tire patch kit, spar valves and air for the tiers?

Got a puncture repair kit in the car with spare valves and plugs etc. Have robbed valves of my spare tyres in a pinch before though. Didn't pack any spare air 😂 But have got two air compressor/hoses/gauges.

Use the slowest speed on the drill to wind your stabilising legs up and down otherwise you will strip the gears out in the legs there not designed to be used like that.

Hey guys, had you at all considered a digger x trail off road caravan by Kokoda caravans? They are fully Australian made with no pop top and everything you guys could have wanted. Just curious if you looked at them and if you decided against them for any reason? They are around 10k more than your mdc admittedly so if its price I understand. Cheers

Yeah looked at the kokoda. A friend of mine recently got one, beautiful vans. But just didn't have the size and layout we wanted. We need something pretty compact, that can still sleep three of us, with an internal ensuite. Very happy with the Forbes so far!

i can see why you got a GVM upgrade now! LOL

That Parfix sealant is an Acetic cure so it will rust/corrode the crap out of any metal it is near while it sets as it releases acetic acid fumes, so might pay to get a natural based sealant. Oh and you def wouldnt want to use it in the van as the Acetic fumes are very strong and it wouldnt do you or the girls any good to breath in.

We did. I was slightly over GVM (even after a GVM upgrade), but had plenty of payload left in the van to move weight around. We were just under total GCM, but happy with that as we are the heaviest we will ever be (150l diesel, 300l water and about 4 weeks worth of food). Covered the trip to the weigh bridge in our first trip episode released yesterday on the channel.

The only other thing I take are some common solenoids for my fuse box.

Yeah got them in the tyre repair kit. Have pinched them off my spares when I've needed too as well. Haha didn't want to weight it, but I did! She's a heavy girl 😂

So my question is, how do you know how to fix broken engines? It's all very well to carry this stuff but you need to know how to use it. Are you a mechanic by trade or something?

Nah no trade background. Just came down to neccesity really. Have always had 4wds, but havnt always had money. So when I've had break downs i've had to figure it out for myself. Decent workshop manuals, KZread and internet forums make it easier. I've got just enough mechanical aptitude to fumble my way through most things, but nowadays I'll take my car to a good mechanic when I can!
