This is great! I think the main reason I would still buy dedicated cutting wheels is for the times when i need a really straight cut, and it looks like the cardstock bends quite a bit under load. For jobs that don't require perfect lines however, this is the best!

Kevin, Excellent tip. What I like is that the paper doesn't explode when it twists, like the pressed cutoff disks. The reinforced cutoff disks can take some flex when cutting, but will also break if the flex is extreme. Going to try the paper next time I need to cut some plastic. 73 WB3BJU

Very cool. So I’m cutting the top of a plastic bin to rivet a screen on for a hamster cage when I thought. Hmmmm, cut it out with my dremel instead of drill and shears and found this video. I took a half dollar, my girlfriend, and an NRA post card I just got in the mail and told her to check this out. Traced the half dollar on post card and cut it out, punched a small hole in the middle with knife and out to the garage we marched. She watched in puzzlement as I attached this paper disk to the mandrel, turned it on, and to both our amazement cut the plastic cover. So thanks for this video. Finally a real tip, that works, and costs absolutely nothing.

Great idea to use a half dollar! A quarter would probably work as a smaller version

Excellent! With such high speed rotation it's the centrifugal force that makes the paper disc very strong.

This changes the entire Rock, Paper, Scissors game. Paper > All.

Worked better than cutting wheels. Used to shorten a base on a blender pitcher. Smooth even cut. Cutting wheel would’ve left chips. Life saver tip.

That is amazing! At first I thought is was just using friction to melt the plastic. But, then you cut wood too. It looks like the paper doesn't wear away as fast as the regular grinding wheels either.

It gave me chills here my friend, you with that exposed hand and fingers and the disc spinning and vibrating ready to come loose from the screw! I could put the source in a vice!

The rotation of the tool is in opposition to the screw, so if anything it tightens it down rather than loosens it up.

What a great tip I will be sorting my junk mail out from now on to find the best stuff for the job

I’m cutting letters out of plastic and need to clean up the cut line it’s only like 3 mm cut. Could try doing this with sandpaper to level the edges

I would think a heat resistant polymer/wood fiber reinforced card stock could be made thinner. and that would make reassembly easy and quick. using solvent melting type glues. I've used this type before, when building polystyrene model cars. it even works great on acrylic plastics.

Now that is a great tip! The thing with wood is you're good to go until you stop and put a rough spot in your cut. If that happens your paper wheel is toast

Nice. I often break the plastic welds using either vise grips or a vise with protective material on the jaws to prevent damage. A tiny amount of pressure at the right spot in the right direction on the right face will split multiple faces open cleanly in seconds. It's usually clean enough that it can be welded back together using a plastic, chemical welding solution-acetone sometimes does the trick. Careful experimentation is occasionally needed. Regards.

Thank you for this, I do a lot of plastic recycling on a personal scale, a lot of breaking the plastic at the weld... Do you have any tips about finding the right "direction" and "face"? Hoping it's not all guess and check, thank you for your time!

@@dead1097 It's guess-‘n’-check. You become the expert. I use the vise grips because I have control, adding small amounts of compression at a time. Try a little on a face, listen for the _snap_ of the plastic giving way, and if it doesn't happen, choose to add a touch more compression, or move on to the next face. Like anything else, I get better at it as I do it. Regards. -DP

Learned that trick a while ago. You know the ring that goes between the bottom of your toilet and the sewer opening in the floor. Essentially, beeswax. Stick your screw threads in it for a little coat of wax especially if screwing into hardwood, even pine wood that's hardened from being seasoned for a long time. When I needed my boots for work shiny enough to see my reflection I used dampened newspaper for that special shine.

By definition, card-stock is paper. Paper is graded by weight and thickness. Card-stock is simply on the heavy end of that.
