When Justin showed up to join the band he had this riff written in his back pocket. It was his first contribution. Not a bad start 👍

He almost didn't go to audition for the band after they invited him bc he didn't feel equal to the task. He said so on an hour long interview available on youtube. Dude flew from the UK for the audition after his brother told him he was crazy if he didn't go...the rest was history. And this was the first album I ever bought as an 8th grade kid.

Don’t discount Paul and his grooves on Opiate and Undertow
Now that you have heard 46 & 2, you should check out the O'Keefe Music Foundation kids cover of 46 & 2. They are spot on note to note and the kids ages range from about 18 to about 6. You won't be disappointed 😊

that school is right near me! that school makes some of the best musicians in Ohio. the song Jimmy is about Ohio too, but he grew up a big further away than Lebanon.
So the story is that with Aenima, Tool started including segues like Useful idiot between songs. Someone else mentioned they act like "pallet cleansers" 👍 They're usually just short 1-2 min experimental skits that sometimes don't even seem to relate to the surrounding songs.
I’ve been listening to Tool for 27 years, I can’t tell how many times I said “No...THIS is my favorite song!” I’ve probably had at least 20 different favorite Tool songs over the years. 46 & 2 definitely in my top 5. Another one of my top 5 is on this album as well, Pushit. Can’t wait!

I'm right there with you bro, first heard Opiate on a college radio station in New Haven, CT in the early 90's. I only have 9 live shows under my belt ( in 5 different States). This song was always a, when are they gonna play it not if they're going to play it. 51 years young and still rocking out to Tool
That bassline makes me feel things. Unbelievable band
I love when you give us a picture of how you see and feel the sound (standing on the only dry rock at the bottom of a waterfall sill in control of it all) love it. Thanks for painting us a picture. 😂 And the laugh about "Come out you're surrounded by vinyl" whispers "cds never existed". I'm going to have to explain myself to my office mates soon lol🤣
That was a true pleasure to watch. That is my personal favorite song of all time. It just gets better and better as the years and listens pass. I’m OGT I don’t mind saying. From 93 though not 92 It never gets old. Just gets better with time

Also yes you did skip a badass track after Eulogy called “H” It’s a must for your journey no doubt
"that was disgusting" cracked me up, damn decent reaction, but more so a real breath of fresh air to have so much technically informed assessment. most reactions are basically 'i like it'
"Instrumental asswhooping" Best description I've heard for Tool 🤣
"Come out with your hands up, the vinyl is all around you!"
The opening riff to 46&2 has been my main ringtone for 2 years. I NEVER get tired of hearing that riff even if it's for 30 seconds when a call comes in... It just puts me in a headspace that I enjoy to reside in!
You’ll say that again on this album at least once more (Pushit is my all-time)
You just heard one of the greatest Tool songs and hearing it live is pretty much a spiritual experience. I completely understand if it ends up your favorite song after your journey. It is a masterpiece. But since we are talking Tool there are more masterpieces to come so it's really a matter of preference in the end. What they bring at their best is damn near perfection. Excellent reaction, it is a pleasure to see the joy and awe you have listening to their songs for the first time.
Ok the instrumental of 46 and 2 are on the next level, now you have to explore the lyrics that's a whole new dimension!!!
46&2 is easily one of tools best songs. It's just one of those that you can continue to dig deeper and deeper into.
Dude, ur imagery when discussing Tool is amazing. And you crack me the f up!!! Love ur reactions
Hold up, what happened to H? That's between Eulogy and Useful idiot on the album lineup
@bobbyeberly4857

Deltakilo321 H is one of my faves for sure
My favorite too. That instrumental breakdown was my ring tone back in the day. The meaning of the song lyrics is also something that makes you think as usual from them
A natural reaction, like what you just demonstrated, was way better than being warned about how epic 46&2 is. This track is one of their masterpieces, for sure, and is exactly how a track should end! If you get the chance, go see Tool live and cherish every second that they play this track. Spiral out, keep going!
Dude, that was an absolute joy to watch. Your enjoyment was palpable. The fact you’re a musician and producer only makes it better. Cheers brother!🥃🤘🤘
I like to think of the interludes as tonal palette cleansers. With so much intensity it's good to take a break and breathe while introducing new ideas and tones to shift to the next track. Useful idiot is one of the more simple ones.
When he goes from beneath the weight of the sound to above it is what Tool Tribe is all about. Consumed but not overwhelmed. Able to rise above when necessary.
Im glad that you finally got to this album... from now on everything is gold!
This has to be one of my favorite reactions to any song, all time... Its exactly how I felt when I listened to it over and over in '97. :D
Still one of my fave Tool songs, that ENERGY/INTENSITY!!
I remember repeating this song over and over when I was 15 lol. I’m 39 now and this is still one of my favorite tracks and with the most meaning to me. It never gets old.
Where is 'H '? That is an AMAZING track. you missed track #3 sir!!
Best 46&2 reaction ever!
My exact reaction when I first listened to them in 1997. Mindblown.
Unnecessary roughness. LMAO. What a song. What a band.
This song is my favourite live. It bangs.
"theres a flag on the play!" epic !!😂😂👍🏼👍🏼
Useful idiot is a troll tey put in the album. On record, useful idiot is the last track on side a and is a continous loop until you flip to side b where the first song is Fourty six and 2. Pretty funny when you think about it.
Tool does not have "a" music style...Tool "IS a" music style!
Their mix exemplifies their arrangement. Power incarnate.
You're a thoughtful dude so I've been waiting for this one. This is usually people's entry point, but I'm glad you got to know them before hearing this one. On the actual disc useful idiot flows directly into 46 and 2 and it sounds a lot better.
Every album is meant to be listened to 1 track after the prior. They gel, in that sense. Love this fucking band.
🤣 Unnecessary roughness. 😂 Love it!
Useful Idiot is a trip because at the end you begin to discover a rhythm in the sounds of the vinyl, and then it ends abruptly, going into 46 & 2.
"Useful Idiot" was more intended for a little gag on the album, as it was placed at the end of 'side one' on the vinyl release... never heard anyone say listen to it with 46 & 2 before! lol ...but "Intermission" and "jimmy" should be listened together! 😉
Can't wait for you to react to the lyrics of Tool
Hands-down best reaction I’ve ever seen to TOOL!!!!
DramaSydE, master of the metaphor. I watched this twice and will again soon. You picked up on why this song has been played live more than any other song besides Stinkfist. The crowd always erupts after Danny has a percussive seizure and the song drops. So so electric live. They played this all 9 times I've seen them and I hope I get a chance at 10. Keep that flag around, I was dying laughing. Keep up the amazing reactions and stay well my friend.
I, like seemingly half of KZread, have been watching reaction vids a lot. Being one of my favorite songs, I've watched a lot of this song. Yours is the best so far, because you actually break down the how and the why you reacted as you did, and described the emotions involved well. As someone writing music, this is really great to hear when making my own. First vid of yours I've watched, and I have subscribed.
i know i'm late to the party but i just discovered your tool reaction videos. have to say i'm loving them so far. i really like how you doing it even the technical notes. i remember when i first listened this album with my headphones i was shocked how awesome it was, i was just 16 or so and have to say they put me on very high standard since then
Bringin That “Disgrosting Beat Down” BEAT
You had me at "Sweet sound of vinyl."
My favorite reaction video to 46&2 yet.
Yes....nice description of a cascade of sound around Maynard in the opening verse....he’s there, but so are the 7hree. That’s a TOOL formula
And then the clean bass dropped, that’s Useful Idiot’s purpose. It’s their prog element. Conceptually preparing you for what they have intended.
the vinyl sounds work well on the album because it drops into 46 & 2, it does not work with the gap in between videos
Just imagine, that was mixed almost 25 years ago my man! The “Useful Idiot” suggestion was a prank to lull you in it would seem. Totally dug the response!!! Brings me great joy to watch the new experiences with Tool!
This is my new favorite reaction ever for 46 & 2. That flag on the play was hilarious. As others have said, this song live is immaculate.
Great reaction! Always excited to see a new Tool reaction video from your channel!
It's been my all time favorite song for many years. I agree
An instrumental ass whoopin. You should TM that immediately😂 Behind the woodshed and sh..
Dude your reaction to DC's drum solo makes up for all the foolio reactors that watched the lyric video and got distracted. you got it.
I always hear the song that inspired this when I listen to it, Discipline.
I guarantee tomorrow, at some point, im gonna work a “Cds never existed you son of a...” in amongst friends. I will laugh and nobody will know why. Also i am way old in my Tool journey and Forty Six & 2 is still my favorite. Glad you dug it.
I have watched way too many Tool reaction videos, yours are by far the best, keep it up
Thank you for experiencing that with you. Expert analysis and feeling it to the bone.
Definitely in the top 5 for me!!
Intermission and Jimmy is a must to play back to back, once you get there of course.
May I suggest something? If you're going to listen to Tool, listen to an album from start to finish. From there you might get a better perspective of how it was intended to be listened too.

I would, but the problem with that and i'm gonna be honest, I do the Tool videos, and let's be honest, we the reactors do it for the views yes, but I genuinely love music but the problem is, I have done full Tool projects and I see some other reactor say yeah that cool and get 20k views and its a little disheartening, and i'm over here trying to raise discussion and enjoy every single moment, no bullshit just being honest.
This and The Grudge are my 2 favs. No Quarter is right there as well.
Forty Six and 2 is my favorite song on this album. The meaning of the title also adds to the mystique of this song. I can never rate TOOL songs against each other but this song is in my top 5 of TOOL songs in no particular order with vicarious, the grudge, parabol parabola, and Right in Two. Dam the. There’s Lateralus and Schism. Nevermind hard to make a top 5 list make it top 10.
Loved it! Those drums, when you threw in the towel, they hit me in the chest every time i listen to this. Thank you for your insights into Tool. I've been listening to tool for about 27 years now, and you catch things that I haven't on your first listen. Looking forward to watching you through the rest of your journey (trip??!).
Right on, great job Drama! Great to see that lighter side of you too. Thx, look forward to the rest of the ride.
Yeah. It's a good song. One of my favorite's too. Just like a bunch of Tool songs you've already listened to, and a bunch of Tool songs you've got in your future. I envy you. :)
‘“I DIDN’T MEAN TO BUY CASSETTES!”😁😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Wait ‘til you dive into the meaning of this one. I’m sure it will come in the comments, but it’s pretty cool.
I may or may not be listening to this on repeat until you post the next one. It's that great.
your funny -the pot -vicarious -perfect circle -judith
I like your analysis, I find you verbalise emotion better than most 👍
I once used "Useful Idiot" on a loop as a spooky sound for Halloween. I hate the boo-boo in the woo-woo, too. "46 & 2" might be the perfect song.
What a killer reaction! Enjoying your journey. More ass kicking coming your way bud!

Super pumped you’re doing all the songs chronologically. Thanks for these!
I'm pretty sure the actual vinyl put Useful Idiot right before you had to flip it, so it is kind of an intentional joke
Forty Six and 2 is my favorite song on this album, followed closely by Third Eye. As great as the production on this album sounds, I can't wait until you hear the next album, Lateralus (Lat-er-al'-us). Then 10,000 Days sounds even better!!
I agree with Erik Davis! Your reaction is PRICELESS!
Loved this! Best reaction on this song
The best progrock band period
I so enjoy you. Rain is my middle name. Robin Trower, Bridge Of Sighs. Hot Tuna, Ten Years After, Blind Faith, Can't find my way home. Pat Travers, Crash And Burn. George Thorogood, The Sky Is Crying. Thank you!
Forty Six And 2 will always be my fav tool song :)
Well done ! You got me hooked with this one .🔥 another subscriber o yeah Tool Then everyone else can start to debate....
great reaction.welcome to the tool family! You are in for a great ride for sure
You have to listen to the album as a whole to understand the interlude songs
8:48 is priceless !!🤣🤣🤣🔥
Watched a couple of your reactions and after this I had to subscribe. The music alone in this track is amazing, but if you read the lyrics and understand the theme of the song: the next step in human evolution (46 chromosomes + 2 more), the whole package gets delivered like a same-day amazon prime shipment on steroids.
This man knows how to listen to Tool! LOL
One of my favorite reactions of all time 🤘🏻
Awesome review as always!!! BTW, I know you're doing songs/album in order...did I miss H (in between Eulogy and Useful Idiot)? Don't remember you doing it.
Another great review as always!
You should definitely listen to disposition, reflection and triad..!!!! It’s beyond words
Quality as always!
Lmao love this reaction!!!!
To be fair, I’m pretty sure we did tell you this would happen lol
This song got me into listening to Tool back in highschool, I probably downloaded it at random from Napster or something. And while I still think it's a great song, and maybe I've listened to it one too many times, but at this point it feels a bit crude compared to the journeys through convoluted time and space they've taken us since.
Great reaction! Welcome.
