He almost didn't go to audition for the band after they invited him bc he didn't feel equal to the task. He said so on an hour long interview available on youtube. Dude flew from the UK for the audition after his brother told him he was crazy if he didn't go...the rest was history. And this was the first album I ever bought as an 8th grade kid.

So the story is that with Aenima, Tool started including segues like Useful idiot between songs. Someone else mentioned they act like "pallet cleansers" 👍 They're usually just short 1-2 min experimental skits that sometimes don't even seem to relate to the surrounding songs.

I’ve been listening to Tool for 27 years, I can’t tell how many times I said “No...THIS is my favorite song!” I’ve probably had at least 20 different favorite Tool songs over the years. 46 & 2 definitely in my top 5. Another one of my top 5 is on this album as well, Pushit. Can’t wait!

I'm right there with you bro, first heard Opiate on a college radio station in New Haven, CT in the early 90's. I only have 9 live shows under my belt ( in 5 different States). You just heard one of the greatest Tool songs and hearing it live is pretty much a spiritual experience. I completely understand if it ends up your favorite song after your journey. It is a masterpiece. But since we are talking Tool there are more masterpieces to come so it's really a matter of preference in the end. What they bring at their best is damn near perfection. Excellent reaction, it is a pleasure to see the joy and awe you have listening to their songs for the first time.

DramaSydE, master of the metaphor. I watched this twice and will again soon. You picked up on why this song has been played live more than any other song besides Stinkfist. The crowd always erupts after Danny has a percussive seizure and the song drops. So so electric live. They played this all 9 times I've seen them and I hope I get a chance at 10. Keep that flag around, I was dying laughing. Keep up the amazing reactions and stay well my friend.
