*I'm deaf in my right ear which is why I'm not wearing headphones. I know, it's a bummer not to get the panning sounds. It's also been a bummer to only have one ear my whole life for lots of other reasons, like, playing telephone growing up, I was terrible at it. But, I'll be ok, and I'm getting both channels in the earbud, thanks for your concern :)

10,000 Days & Wings for Marie pt 2 --- every single time I listen to this song I well up. I really hope you do that reaction for us. Its a long one, but worth it.
A rad combo: Listen to Led Zeppelin's No Quarter, then follow that, within the same day, the No Quarter version from Tool.

@@Benni-rp9or Far better? It's a good cover, but the original is a better song in my opinion.
And yes I cry during tool songs from time to time.
I’ve always took the clapping at the end as funny response to the fact they just completely shredded and rocked a massive performance by following it up with a simple golf clap. Classic TOOL tongue in cheek response. Or I’m just completely full of shit...
I'm checking the calendar to see when you're gonna do Parabol/Parabola.

This song got me when I finally listened and gave it a real chance. Most people can identify with an abusive relationship, whether it is family, a lover, or a toxic friend. Depending on the version, it reminds me of different relationships that I have had. I had a visceral response to both versions. This song feels more intimate. Like a message to a poisonous lover. Tool gives me goosies. I love it! ❤️🔧
I look forward to this everyday. Thanks!! I saw them perform this years ago, and was their for the you lied recording. This is the only band that I will listened to a produced Live recording from, they nail every song perfect!!! Long live TOOL.

So good.
That reproduced drum sound is an Indian percussion instrument called the tablas. Was also used pretty well in Right In Two.
You cannot forget to do Tools cover of Led Zeppelin’No Quarter’ it’s unbelievable!
In the crowd, you stand in awe. It’s literally all you can do when overwhelmed in such a way.
I’ve seen them perform this version, and while they played it, I was not moving at all. I was wide eyed, and full of wonder and awe. I’m not sure if I cheered at the end. I may have muttered, “Holy fuck...”

SuperJersh oh honey, this is just the beginning. Once you start pulling full albums at a time, daily life has a whole new lens. Btw, fantastic screamer but also with a beautiful melodic voice is Richard Patrick (Filter). Title of record is an amazing record. And his brother is Robert Patrick (ya know...Terminator 2).
As you go further down the rabbit hole of Tool and it will eventually become a #maynardfix. You will hear and appreciate more how Maynard is one of the greatest vocalist ever. With so much range . I highly recommend APC / The Package or Puscifer/ Autumn, keep up the great reactions brother #toolarmy #maynardfix
This is what his vocals sounded like in 2001 & 2, at Westpac Stadium, Christchurch, New Zealand. We were so lucky then, as they no longer play the south island, only Auckland.
You should surely listen to no quarter by Led Zeppelin first before the tool version for reference
The clapping you heard at the end were the sound board techs at the show when it was played. Always thought it was a cool touch to keep that in there

Why would they be mic'ed up tho?
I can usually tell what Tool song it is based on the feedback before the song.
“Don’t usually go that crazy with their solos...” That’s true. Adam doesn’t do a lot of traditional solos, but he always makes amazing riffs, with beautifully textured tones, and plays exactly what a song needs. You’ll hear him cut loose a little bit on 7empest, Parabol/Parabola, and even Descending.

The clapping at the end was the band congratulating the fans
So excited to watch this!! Yes it is a live performance. All of the songs on Salival are. Goosies towards the end of the song. Glad it moved you!
Those highs Maynard hits at the end of the song always gives me chills.
Danny uses double bass kick drums. He also uses traditional and electronic drums. His drum tech Jeff Ocheltree was John Bonham's (Led Zeppelin) old drum tech. Check out Vic Firths artist Spotlight of Danny. He goes over his kit and how the band met. Here's the link. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKhlztZyaaa9nqQ.html
I wish they would do more reinterpretations of old songs like this.
What's amazing is how you can hear how the band incorporated American contemporary classical techniques, think of the music to Black Beauty. It's in those big spacious harmonies, and the hauntingly effective use of the medieval modal system, the scales Gregorian Chant utilize. In this case, I believe they are mainly using the Lydian mode, which is known to have a celestial, heavenly, and haunting quality to it. That is the mark of good musicians to me, those willing to use all the musical resources available and blend them together into something new. Tool are awesome.

Love tool and never heard heard this version, amazing version, thank you for this
I’ve been to 8 concerts over the past 25 years. To answer your question, it’s like everyone is waiting in constant anticipation for the fucking tsunami that’s about to be leashed on you. As soon as it can come, it can instantly be taken away from you only to come back and whack you upside your head/body again. That’s the beauty of them.
IMHO, Maynard's greatest vocal achievement EVER!
I like the way the drums have an almost bubbly quality to them at some points. It's a very interesting sound. This version of the song make it sound far more remorseless and less one-sided in terms of being a bad influence in the relationship. Tool concerts that I've ever been to don't have mosh pits or crowd surfing like alot of shows. Everyone's really into the music and swaying or headbanging or playing their air instruments to the music. And everyone is singing the song. You can hear the crowd in all of their songs in concert. This music means alot to alot of people.
In my opinion Maynard is an instrument. And we need to see Yoshi more! 🥰

haha thx i'm thinking about posting more pics of him on instagram
When you finish the tool catalog, you need to do the tool covers, no quater-led zep, you lied-peach ect.
It takes me two notes and the space between usually. In concert they tend to tease the crowd with the intro, and sit between two possibilities just to fug with the listeners. On February 29th this year, I guessed correctly, all five times they did this. "Is, is that... Schism?" (Yes, yes it was!) One gig, 2013 I think, Maynard played that guitar where the strings stop at the head without tuner nuts. Not sure how to describe it. But it was fed thru a synthesiser
Need to do No Quarter off this same album
His voice is his instrument✌also Danny Carrey plays all the sounds on his drums. Everything you hear is in the moment. Plus I can FEEL it's a TOOL song right sway
Dude I’m pretty sure I get choked up and teary eyed every time I hear this. And yes they added some “golf claps” at the end.
Now no quarter from the same album, the Led Zeppelin cover, its incredible 🤟🏻
Lissie - Hero
Another thing to note is that when they played this version live a handful of times in the late 90s, Danny's tabla instructor, Aloke Dutta, would come out on stage and play the tablas next to Danny. You can hear during the "drum solo" section of the song, we can slightly hear a differentiation in the drum tones that go back and forth... this is Danny (lower tone) vs Aloke (higher tone) playing off each other.
I was lucky to see the tour they played this version of Pushit on back in 1997/98. The Melvins opened for Tool and there were a few songs Buzz Osborne of the Melvins came out and played guitar along with Adam on this song and the song "You Lied" that is also on Salival. Great live band! (You Lied is a cover from the band "Peach" that Tool's current bass player came from)
I remember when this box set came out. I was trying to download it on napster for weeks before it came out lol. Pushit was one of the first ones I grabbed. My dumbass got the VHS version though lmao. I was 18 :p
This version gives me goose bumps every time I hear it!! Great reaction BTW.
Powerful stuff right here, really cool how you actually picked it up 👍 You're probably right but I've always imagine that clapping might've been from the tech people back stage where the recording equipment was...
It was an official live recording for the salival album (it's a live album) which is why the sound quality is better than the typical fan made live videos.

All live except No Quarter which was supposed to be on a compilation Zep covers tribute album, but the band refused to cut it down from 10+ minutes when asked (would expect nothing else of Tool) and ended up here.
He's a musician and magician
Hell yeah !! It’s Live, they recorded it themselves and added the clapping on the end for humor sakes.. Maynard only sings , and writes the lyrics , the other three Amazing musicians play every note you hear live, no voice overs, and those strange notes you hear on the drums are called Tabla drums , and Danny can tune them to sound like anything he wants .. and yes he has double bass with ever other imaginable drum chime etc One of the Best drummers to walk this planet 🌎, except maybe Neal #TOOLARMY
One time at a Tool concert my brother had his eyes closed for an entire song, just really feeling it.. when he opened his eyes he was facing the wrong way. Poor people behind him just had to stare at his face while he spiraled out.
Perfect once again! 👍❤️👍
I’m so happy...thanks Jersh and Yoshi
🙌🏻 permission granted
*Type O Negative*
It is definitely worth recording the reactions to the live stuff without the deep lyrical breakdown, especially when it hits ya like this one did. No Quarter hits me every damn time I listen to it, look forward to your reaction of it.

yeah i'm glad i did studio versions first mostly
Maynard is indeed a musician as well. It’s not his main thing though, but he definitely understands and has played instruments. Triad is a good example, funny enough. Watch the live version some time. Turns out, he plays bass on it. While Justin plays the heavily distorted bass, he plays the bassy bass. And it’s a headless bass, as well. Not sure if he does that on any other Tool song though.
Well in the beginning Maynard said we’ll meet you on the other side!! I’m glad you were able to bridge
I know the name of the band throws you off a little. But trust me Puscifer Agostina. It's the most beautiful song ever written.
Standing in awe with tears probably
It’s funny you mentioned the “Play Free Bird” thing at the end, because there’s actually a little known hidden track off that Salival record called “Maynard’s Dick” 😂 And it’s obviously a joke song, but it’s actually surprisingly good too, has a very Skynard-esque feel to the verses, you should totally react to it!
SuperJersh check out Rage against The Machine. Tom Morrelo is awesome on guitar. I recommend the track ROLL RIGHT
My best friend went to put an album on, but didn’t want me to see what he was putting on(he put on Lateralus). When the quiet-ish sound effect at the start of the album came on, I said, “Ooooo... TOOL!” He was like, “How the fuck did you know?” I was like, “That little sound.” I suppose I couldn’t identify TOOL as quickly with their new album, but all their old stuff I can identify within the first sound.
There’s a good video out there of them performing ‘The Pot’. It’s a rare scene for one they are playing during the day and that you see MJK clearly. He’s fun to watch on stage.
Would be awesome to see some A Perfect Cirlce reactions too. The Outsider, The Pet, Orestes, Weak and Powerless, The Pet, could be some nice starting points :)
RMRGRD! WELL DRN, JRSH
I love the Salival version of Pushit. Its sung in a different key and MJK's voice 🤤🤤🤤

i've heard a couple pantera songs like walk and cowboys from hell, but they have a lot of music i haven't heard so it's possible :)
Maynard plays some instruments once in a while too
In “Reflection” Maynard plays an odd Indian instrument from what I understand.
"They usually don't go that crazy with their solos".... Jersh listens to 7empest next: "I take that back!" 😜
No! More TOOL! That's why we're here. 🤣
The first time I saw them was on the Aenima tour. Coming to love them on the undertow album. They played a ten minute intro to Sober and the whole time I was telling my friends that only knew Sober, This is Sober! Just wait! They aren’t my friends anymore.🤣
Maynard only sings and writes. Maybe after you finish reacting to all of the songs, you could react to the drum cover videos. I think that you would have a different perspective of Danny Carey on the drums. Also Maynard uses his voice as an instrument to set the mood or tone of the song.

The song is a recordig from a live show, I always took the faded in clapping at the end as its probably Tool themselves clapping for themselves, kind of sarcastically defusing the adoration of the audience at the end of the recording. Just what i assumed anyway. It fits with what I know about them.
You may try No quarter - Led Zep and then. No querter TOOL
