*I'm deaf in my right ear which is why I'm not wearing headphones. I know, it's a bummer not to get the panning sounds. It's also been a bummer to only have one ear my whole life for lots of other reasons, like, playing telephone growing up, I was terrible at it. But, I'll be ok, and I'm getting both channels in the earbud, thanks for your concern :)

This song got me when I finally listened and gave it a real chance. Most people can identify with an abusive relationship, whether it is family, a lover, or a toxic friend. Depending on the version, it reminds me of different relationships that I have had. I had a visceral response to both versions. This song feels more intimate. Like a message to a poisonous lover. Tool gives me goosies. I love it! ❤️🔧

What's amazing is how you can hear how the band incorporated American contemporary classical techniques, think of the music to Black Beauty. It's in those big spacious harmonies, and the hauntingly effective use of the medieval modal system, the scales Gregorian Chant utilize. In this case, I believe they are mainly using the Lydian mode, which is known to have a celestial, heavenly, and haunting quality to it. That is the mark of good musicians to me, those willing to use all the musical resources available and blend them together into something new. Tool are awesome.

I’ve been to 8 concerts over the past 25 years. To answer your question, it’s like everyone is waiting in constant anticipation for the fucking tsunami that’s about to be leashed on you. As soon as it can come, it can instantly be taken away from you only to come back and whack you upside your head/body again. That’s the beauty of them.

I like the way the drums have an almost bubbly quality to them at some points. It's a very interesting sound. This version of the song make it sound far more remorseless and less one-sided in terms of being a bad influence in the relationship. Tool concerts that I've ever been to don't have mosh pits or crowd surfing like alot of shows. Everyone's really into the music and swaying or headbanging or playing their air instruments to the music. And everyone is singing the song. You can hear the crowd in all of their songs in concert. This music means alot to alot of people.

It takes me two notes and the space between usually. In concert they tend to tease the crowd with the intro, and sit between two possibilities just to fug with the listeners. On February 29th this year, I guessed correctly, all five times they did this. "Is, is that... Schism?" (Yes, yes it was!) One gig, 2013 I think, Maynard played that guitar where the strings stop at the head without tuner nuts. Not sure how to describe it. But it was fed thru a synthesiser

Another thing to note is that when they played this version live a handful of times in the late 90s, Danny's tabla instructor, Aloke Dutta, would come out on stage and play the tablas next to Danny. You can hear during the "drum solo" section of the song, we can slightly hear a differentiation in the drum tones that go back and forth... this is Danny (lower tone) vs Aloke (higher tone) playing off each other.

I was lucky to see the tour they played this version of Pushit on back in 1997/98. The Melvins opened for Tool and there were a few songs Buzz Osborne of the Melvins came out and played guitar along with Adam on this song and the song "You Lied" that is also on Salival. Great live band! (You Lied is a cover from the band "Peach" that Tool's current bass player came from)

Maynard is indeed a musician as well. It’s not his main thing though, but he definitely understands and has played instruments. Triad is a good example, funny enough. Watch the live version some time. Turns out, he plays bass on it. While Justin plays the heavily distorted bass, he plays the bassy bass. And it’s a headless bass, as well. Not sure if he does that on any other Tool song though.

Hi, metal fan here. Not sure if you already heard these yet, but some of my favorite metal bands (and suggested songs) to check out: Metallica (One, Orion) Megadeth (Holy Wars/Punishment Due, My Darkest Hour) Pantera (This Love, Cemetery Gates) Slayer (Angel of Death, Raining Blood) Korn (Daddy, Kill You, Freak On A Leash) Black Sabbath (War Pigs, N.I.B.) Oh..and another great Tool song, Hooker With A Penis.

i'm familiar with most metallica so likely won't react to them unless i haven't heard it or it's a live performance i've never seen, for the other bands i've only heard a couple of the hits so they all have music i likely can/will react to in the future, thx for the suggestions! :)

The song is a recordig from a live show, I always took the faded in clapping at the end as its probably Tool themselves clapping for themselves, kind of sarcastically defusing the adoration of the audience at the end of the recording. Just what i assumed anyway. It fits with what I know about them.

takes me a couple of bars if I haven't heard it in more than 6 months, I would either be clutching the front rail headbanging my ass off or on the edge of the mosh pit ready to get my ass kicked as they pushit on me

You should just listen to TOOL music and leave the lyric interpretations for later 🤙🏽 enjoy the experience the lyrics can take away from it.

Just to put another vote in the hat for the No Quarter Zepplin cover. If you haven't heard the original you should give it a listen first. So you can appreciate how fucking epic it is compared to the original.

i've heard like, 5-6 big hits from zeppelin but don't know the names of most of them so if i react to the cover i'll probably start with the original and find out if i've heard it haha

How many notes to recognize a song?..good question Jersh. maybe 1...I’ll have test myself.🙈😜👍. I can’t remember an artist/band asking for the audiences’ permission to play a song...takes me far away.
