Tool: Live 9/14/01 Schottenstein Center, Columbus, OH (Complete Show from Master Tape)

Музыка

Tool performs live at The Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio on September 14, 2001, just three days after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. I was uncertain if the show would even take place, but it went on as scheduled. I was equally worried about heightened security entering the venue, but managed to get inside with my Sony Hi8 camcorder to film this historic show. Band members: Maynard James Keenan (vocals), Adam Jones (Guitar), Justin Chancellor (bass), Danny Carey (drums). Camera and post production: Sie Callebs

Our setlist didn't have Prison Sex or Pushit. Those were replaced with Eulogy and Undertow.

Thank you 3 years later for posting this incredible memory!! Today being 9/11, my daughter asked me about the events of that day. I told her my account and then went on to tell her about this show and the dayton one being cancelled, then for the first time since then, decided to look up this show. I was telling her about the schism monologue and hoped there was a recorded video of it… again, thank you for this! It’s music history as it pertains to world history of the best band ever! The energy that night, absolutely incredible, I’ve seen them live on every album since Undertow, probably 10 times. This show stands out in my memory as the greatest show ever. ❤

Whoever filmed this, thank. Brilliant show and you got most of the stuff on screen. You are the man. You have no idea how many versions I had to sit through to finally find the right one. I'm gonna link your show in the tool subrennit. Hopefully people like your work

Thanks! It's not perfect, but I was happy with the result. And this was before cameras had the flip-out LCD screens, so I spent the whole show looking through the viewfinder. Worth it in the end to capture this brilliant performance!

I was there, his monologue into schism was absolutely spiritual and intense, especially right after 9/11z they cancelled the Dayton show I had tickets to but then played this one. At the time, it felt like Schism was prophetic.

Love Tool and Maynard but how exactly do we “communicate” with a radical religious terror group like al-qaeda?

Less wars for profit, less killing of people in the name of oil, less violence against the world that only makes rich men richer, more listening and more actions based on what is being said by anyone who is a victim of imperialistic murder. Stop believing the propaganda, they are people the same as you and I. You would be just as angry and violent if your family and friends were murdered and your country destroyed to enrich the global elite. just a few thoughts off the top of my head, even tho this has nothing to do with my original comment. I was just expressing my memories from 22 years ago when i witnessed this show live in Columbus. When I say "you" I mean the collective body of people who fail to see the real enemy of this world. It is only al-qaeda if you are in their land, killing their people and stealing from them. I DO NOT SUPPORT THEM- I merely empathize with anyone who has to face the global war machine of terror that shows up and takes everything without any regard for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Hope this helps answer your question, at the very least, makes you think for yourself, and always, QUESTION AUTHORITY. @@ethanrom22

My first tool show was the one in Grand Rapids, the show before this. I was in 8th grade, and still remember it clearly. I didn’t think it was going to happen either because it was scheduled for 9/11/01.

i was 19. it was surreal in GR. Especially being that Maynard has strong ties to Michigan and to GR specifically (Kendall). The fact that he talked sooo much at the GR show and that it was the 1st show after…and it was a show that was supposed to happen 9/11. When they say that music heals or arts saves lives, they mean shows like this that happened. Everything after 9/11 has been…tragic. I’m grateful that i had these live shows back then.
