    Don't believe that Fibonacci is only in just a few syllables. The whole song is permeated with it. If you really go looking for it, you'll keep discovering new details endlessly. From a compositional point of view this piece is a masterpiece of complexity the likes of which have not been seen for decades, perhaps for centuries. It's an inhuman effort and it's amazing how it didn't come out a jumble of noises.

  • @SuzakuX

    @SuzakuX

    Жыл бұрын

    I mean, all music is permeated with the fibonacci sequence. The golden ratio determines what we find aesthetically pleasing. It's the reason song structure is the way that it is. The ratio of verse to bridge to chorus and so forth is that ratio. Maynard himself considers the song overblown and a bit pretentious for calling so much attention to something humans actually incorporate into everything we make instinctively.

    Danny Carey is one of the best drummers alive and ever! I've been playing drums for over 35 years. I've never learned to do what Danny does. There's drummers out there that are faster, can play crazier time signatures than he does and a ton of other cool stuff. Danny however, does it all with more taste and groove than anyone else. He's the only drummer I listen to, that I can honestly say, plays his parts the way they were meant, by the universe, to be played.

    'Ride the spiral until the end' could also be saying until your end, rather than the spiral's end. As in, keep pushing to go as far as we can in what we have of our limited human lives. This song is basically the Tool obstacle course. There are multiple points where he is saying 'embrace the random', and then musically they are literally pushing reality through itself, and the listener is in the position of trying to fight/control it, or embracing it. You have to make the choice to open wide to suck it in, to see the beauty.

    New Subscriber, and big fan of Metal Mondays. It’s refreshing and rewarding as a Metal fan to see others appreciate the music we love. Your interpretation of most of these songs is spot on, and it gives a whole new meaning to “Reacts to…” Also, reacting to multiple songs from a single artist truly gives you an appreciation for some of capabilities of each band. With that said, we’re gonna need to step it up a notch and get those lyric sheets out for some of the biggest songs in the last three years… 1. Lorna Shore - …and I return to nothingness 2. Slaughter to Prevail - Demolisher And one of my recent favs.. 3. Fit For an Autopsy - Pandora.

    I have been waiting for this one for a long time. *Later Edit* The overanalyzing line is especially poignant in this song because as much as people love to analyze this song to death, it loses its potency when you do. This song is best understood by letting it play straight through and letting your mind ride with it on the journey. Just turn off the lights, lay back, and listen.

    Tool gives us the interpretive key in the first verses of the lyrics. The first verses are a clear reference to Alchemy and the four stages of transmutation: nigredo (black), albedo (white), rubedo (red) and yellow (citrinitas). Then there is a reference to the first hermetic law: "As above, so below". It is the law of correspondences, of analogy, etc.

    This is my all time favorite song. The lyrics have meant something different to me at each stage of my life since I first heard it almost 20 years ago and every time I hear it I feel like I understand it on a different, deeper level - a spiral indeed. This song means so much to me that I even got a tattoo of the Fibonacci sequence with the words “spiral out, keep going” when I was dealing with a particularly rough time in my life. I loved your interpretation, you saw it way deeper than most do on the first go around. 💖

    Thank you for your reactionm Knox! I was introduced to TOOL a few years ago, in Ireland, and since then, it's the rare week that I don't listen to one of their albums on loop while I´m driving. For me, they are one of the best bands of all time.

    In +20 years of seeking, yearning, studying the occult and Magick and humans and gods, by far, the most spiritual earthily perceptible thing I have found has been this song, Lateralus. I'd say about 92% of the times I've listened to this, I have helplessly cried at the line "...whatever will bewilder me." That sentence, that feeling, that need hits me, and I feel the damage and healing all the way to my soul.

    Glad you, like so many others, are realizing that Tool are gods amongst insects. There are very few bands that have been able to reach such a level of genius that you either love it because you understand it, or you hate it because you fear what you don't understand. Your on your way, don't stop, keep going, open, you'll never be the same.

You’re are my favorite person to watch reactions to. I have also been lead to your music as well. You are so unique in your own way with your reactions. You earned a new sub 50 seconds in. Watched your reactions and I’ll admit to just now subscribing. I like how you break the songs/videos down and the visuals in a video. You stopped and commented on the word Tool and what it looked like to you-that’s when I subscribed. The music and lyrics are art in their own right but not very often do people talk about the art on the covers of the albums. Tool is definitely in a league of their own in all aspects, glad you appreciate them on all levels of artistry

    The drums, the singing, the lyrics, when he starts singing, the guitar, everything in this song is based on the scale it’s mental you should react to a video that explains better. I think its the first one that pops up when u search lateralus Fibonacci. It is very in depth and then u can rly see how far Maynard James Keenan took this

    Not sure if anyone mentioned it already, but the Fibonacci thing goes even farther with this album... It's referred to as the Holy Gift... If you take the track numbers, and arrange them in 2 Fibonacci spirals... Spiraling in and out... 6, 7, 5, 8, 4, 9, 13, 1, 12, 2, 11, 3, 10... you get a totally new album.. and every track flows seamlessly into the next... well maybe not "seamless" but the ending notes are the same as the next tracks beginning notes, the drum grooves match, etc. It's pretty amazing.

    A match made in heaven Maynard and Knox hill. His writing is perfect for a channel like yours. Absolutely immense track, definitely one of my all time favourite tracks. Unfortunately for someone like you as you mentioned his vocal is at the same level as the music not raised up front and centre as Maynard believes his voice is just another instrument in the band. Which is weirdly how I listen to most music. First comes the melody of the vocal then after many listens I let the lyrics wash over me. But that is why I love your channel you seem to hear things completely opposite which gives me so much more depth from the music I love.

    Hey Knox, you should really check out some Australian artists. Seth Sentry for example is a brilliant lyricist (and his verse in 360's Coup De Grace is insane, there is an average of 11.81 rhymes per line). Other Aussie artists you should check out (in no particular order): - Bliss n Eso - Drapht - Hilltop Hoods - Horrorshow - 360 - Pez - Spit Syndicate - Thundamentals - Urthboy - Mantra (The Experiment is extremely unique)

    You're very close with the lyrics for the first verse! But instead of a single person growing into the colors, it's actually about humanity as a whole. More specifically, it's a reference to the evolution of different human languages, and their terms for colors. Historically, when a new language is created, the first color names they create are for black and white (light and dark, day and night) Then typically the next colors that get named are Red (as in fire, meat, fruits), followed by Yellow (sun, wheat, tigers, etc.), Green (plants and spoiled food), and Blue (sky and water). And so on... To me, this song is about the evolution of Humanity in its infancy. Learning about our place in this world. Over time, creating religion and spirituality. All the while, overthinking and over-analysing who we really are, and missing the beauty of the fact that we are just another part of the Natural World.
