It's a soul singing to other souls. It's not just an ego being auto-tuned for his/her bank account. That's part of the reason it moves you like it does. I could be wrong, but I'm not lying. Happy New Year to all - cheers!

The snake metaphor in the song represents Maynard’s conflicted relationship with his estranged father during his childhood, and Maynard’s fear of becoming just like his father, (while he now raises a son that mirrors himself).

We are witnessing the evolution of the human soul that happens when one discovers and truly takes in and understands Tool and the energy that bursts from their music. It's an amazing journey, to watch this man spiral out and learn so much that relates directly to his current and past life experiences... This band is something special, and if you didn't realize that before I guarantee you do now.

I always say that being a father is the worst/best thing ever. Holding my firstborn in my hands within minutes of his birth I realized immediately and beautifully that I could love unconditionally for the first time. However, I also realized horrifyingly how awful and terrible my childhood was and how much my parents had failed me. The Buddha named his son ball and chain in sanskrit. I always felt that as a parent I am not only willing to suffer for my kids but also am unable to escape that suffering. Considerately killing me indeed.

I am so glad that someone finally “reacted” to “H” because it is one of my favorite, underrated Tool songs. I put “reaction” in quotes because you are one of the few people here who do Tool videos that do a little bit of research (but not enough to ruin the reaction) beforehand and do more of a breakdown as opposed to a “reaction”. This makes me respect you a lot. I am a teacher and use a variety of songs for students to breakdown and analyze; I use a LOT of Tool for this purpose, mainly my seniors and college-level dual credit students. I know that “H” is technically about a father who is struggling with reconciling his past and future in relation to his child, but I have had interesting analysis from students and find that many of them see this song as about struggling with putting their past (indoctrination) aside to be their own person. I teach in the South (Tennessee) and have had students who have discussed having to struggle with thinking differently than their upbringing (especially my students who have different views on gender and sexuality than their parents/family). I am glad you gave this song (and all Tool songs, so far as I have seen) the respect that deserve and the effort of not just making this a “wow, cool song but I didn’t get it” channel like others I have seen. Great job, keep up the work and thank you for bringing some of us people, who have known how good this band is for a long time, along with you for the exploration.

After my daughter was born this song made me cry nearly everytime i listened to it. She honestly saved my life i know how corny that sounds but i had been on heavy drugs for years and felt trapped like i couldnt change and i had come to terms that it was going to kill me and i had expected that but the second i saw her i knew my life had forever changed and i would do anything including die for her in an instant with no thought or care given. Shes 3 now and my life has turned completely around in almost every way. Every now ad then that craving comes back amd i have that itch and all it takes is the look on her eyes when she looks at me makes that fade away.

H means a lot to me. And stop saying thank you Tool Army. You’re one of us. You always have been. 🤘🏼🇨🇦🤘🏼 This song paints a picture of new growth out of death for me. Very somber but very real. I know the majority of people say that this song is about his son. But this song will always be about Heroin and addiction for me personally. 'i feel this coming over like a storm again'. When you're going through withdrawals and you need to fix it hits you like a storm and it's all you can think about. But also when the high hits you(I used to shoot up), it feels like a familiar and welcomed storm coming over you. The snake behind me hisses what my damage could have been. I just picture a serpent behind me in my past just pissed off because he didn't get his chance to lay his fangs into me one last time. Totally void of hate, and killing me just the same. Pretty self explanatory. The heroin doesn't know what it's doing It has no hate for you or for anybody it's in inanimate object or substance. But it's killing you just the same. days away I still feel you touching me, changing me. To me, another reference to withdrawal. After a couple days with that lingering taste of your last high. It changes you. It really turns you into someone you don't even recognize. Other addicts will understand this. 'considerately killing me' heroin feels fucking awesome, but at the same time you're poisoning yourself, considerately.

My daughter is 6 now, and I wouldn’t say (to this point) that it gets easier being a parent; it just gets different. I think that’s true in life as well, it’s all about adapting to the change. I can absolutely say that I love her unconditionally and that it’s all worth it. Hang in there Sebs; you’re a beast with your Tool reactions and I’m sure doing better as a father than you give yourself credit for.

Gotta listen to all 3 songs together. There's an awesome live video by Adrian's Lair on KZread. Not actual footage of the performance but some cool photos of the band in concert along with some other cool visuals. But just amazing to hear them perform this live. Tool is my favorite band - BY FAR. I suggest you don't rush thru Tool's songs as once you have heard them all - then comes the agonizing wait for new Tool music. Also - the "holy trinity" is not really that holy. Other songs should be heard together - but the holy trinity is 3 different songs IMO. Reflection is my favorite.

Coming over like a storm again, to me, seems like another amazing metaphor used by tool. A storm or raincloud hanging over someones head is usually a metaphor for depression or an overwhelming emotion/trauma usually born from a past experience, therefore seeming familiar, hence the word 'again'. In the context of parenthood, a storm could have been formed from when the parent was the child which can take the form of whatever it is that person went through, a type of abuse, strict parenting, controlling, neglectful ect.. and that storm contains all the anguish they felt. Perhaps as they grew older they were able to get out of the storm, in other words away from their parents grip, but when their own child is born it brings it all back and they're met with a dilemma of being a replica of their own parents, which is the easier route since the technique was layed out infront of you, or changing for your child so they may be happier and never have to endure the storm you carry. It can be very hard to admit that everything you've been taught was wrong and who you became as a result is wrong, but the love of your child is overwhelming for alot of good parents and they're willing to change for them. Effectively, their child is 'consideratly killing' that part of them with love. Another beautiful lyric which I believe can be classed as an oxymoron.

I'm not a father and by God that is my greatest regret at 62 years old. I am sure that it would make me feel more whole as a person to know what that feels like. God bless you Happy New Year and good luck as a father

Honestly, growing up, and still to this day, but I believe he is talking about the drug heroin. "I feel this coming over like a storm again" (getting high on H?) "slip away, fade away. Days away, I still feel you, touching me, changing me..." (I felt this on LSD first time. Days later I could still notice the affects of the drug. [although I have NO idea if H has the same affect, yet I could imagine.]) I'd say listen to the track one more time with the drug H in mind, and the lyrics make more since than him talking about his son. I love how many people have many different interpretations. Whatever makes the song your own personal meaning, I think is all they're trying to do. Not one specific message but a vague or broad idea where your mind can settle things within itself while listening to very "trippy/psychedelic" instrumentals.

At face value the song is clearly about heroin. I always did enjoy explaining it to people who though that and how they react when they realize its about the birth of son. Only Maynard.

You remind me of Pastor Mason from Ozark. I can sense an anger in you. A deep aggravation and you use Christianity to find peace and meaning in the midst of that aggravation. It helps you cope with what bothers you. I think Tool speaks to people who are perpetually angry or disappointed on some level and long for improvement and understanding with quiet intensity. Love your reactions brother. Very similar to mine when I first heard them

At some point, I can't wait for you to do some of their remakes! No Quarter from Zeppelin, You Lied from Justin Chancellor's original band Peach or even Stranglehold from Ted Nugent! Even Adam's video release of his Gibson release is amazing! Can't wait for you to see them live.
