    I have to say as a drummer... Danny's drumming on this album which has always been outstanding reached a new level of limb independence. That's amazing considering that these guys aren't youngsters any more. He will surely be a part of the legendary club of drummers like Neil Pert, Vinnie Colaiuta, Etc... Just gets better with age!!

    Tool has never sounded more like Rush than on this tune. Without sounding anything like them at all, the instrumentation, the guitar the drums the bass, all soloing at the same time yet blending together seamlessly, is a testament to their talent of time signatures, changing tempos and production values. Did I mention the lyrics? WHOA just WHOA.

    Chancellor's like that one dude in every social gathering who doesn't speak much. But when he talks, you LISTEN, and his words are memorable. Chancellor's ability to switch from consistent rhythm to memorable lead always amazes me. But he is so underrated (relatively speaking) that a complete tool like myself will often confuse his parts for Adam's e.g that insane bass solo in Invincible or in Vicarious.

    I rank it number 3. I liked the more matured sound and arrangements of the songs and I think this is Danny Carey at the best he's ever been. Of course, 7empest is the highlight, though Pneuma and Descending I think are also fantastic tracks. Invincible and Fear Inoculum are solid tracks too but not as good as the previous three mentioned. Culling Voices for some reason I really enjoy despite hearing that people refer to it as the weakest of the main six songs. My list; #1; Lateralus #2; Ænima #3; Fear Inoculum #4; 10,000 Days #5; Undertow #6; Opiate 2 and 4 keep switching around but I feel Fear Inoculum lands perfectly at #3.

    I think it's more of a grower than most Tool albums... and i think the long wait meant some Tool fan's taste changed, so they weren't inclined/able to give it the necessary listens to let the album sink in. Especially since many of us have aged from single college students to married with kids since the last album. and the opportunities to really listen to an album are few and farther between.

    Vin, appreciate your take on the Fear Inoculum album - figured this would be the song you would like most as it is the most metal of the bunch. The band had been 'maturing' for a long time, and an additional 13 years between albums added to that (Danny Carey is now 58 ! and Maynard no longer can scream like used to). Reflects in their sound and style, but to me this is still the best sounding album I've heard by anyone in a long time - Pneuma, this track & Descending are exceptional. Definitely need to be willing to put in the time with it, and of course, like anything, not for everyone. What I find interesting is that the Tool fans who are most critical of it are generally the ones who want the raw, heavier, angrier sound from the past - some AEnima, but even more so back to Undertow & Opiate. But on this channel, you haven't really done much from those (nothing from Opiate & only Sober / Undertow from that one if I'm correct) - perhaps you could dive in there & may find it more to be the Tool style of your liking (Bottom perhaps as a start ?)

  • @marcilgen8588

    @marcilgen8588

    2 жыл бұрын

    Exactly! The people who are disappointed in this album tend to be younger metal fans who want the Tool of AEnima, with all it's youthful energy and angst. That Tool no longer exists - they have grown up. This is a more mature, more musically sophisticated Tool. This is the album where Adam, Danny and Justin get to come into their own as incredible musicians and creators. Past albums were more about Maynard's brilliantly creative and esoteric lyrics and his intense energy. This album is where his fellow bandmates really get to shine, with more heavy prog elements. As an older fan, I think this album is absolutely brilliant.

    queensryche has an amazing singer and lead guitarist... they were the hard rock pink floyd of the 80s and early 90s... they also started the seattle hard rock movement that gave us queensryche, pearl jam, alice in chains, rage against the machine, dream theatre, nirvana and soundgarden... and queensryche was my favorite band from 1984-1995 “until tool was”.. RYCHE-N-ROLL .. i had that shirt... i got it at a Suicidal Tendancies/Queensryche concert at “THE PIT” in Portsmouth Va “next to va beach”... i was in the military and had just came back from the gulf war

    I think by saying Tempest, he is referring to his intemperance during his youth or younger self, that dominated his music and lyrics throughout the early days of Tool and APC ect. He's saying a 'Tempest' must be true to his nature, doubt isn't an option. I think he's grown a lot, 'think' he HAS grown a lot through the years spiritually and i believe what he's saying is he no longer has the same sort of view's he once held and is trying in some way to atone for the damage he feels he may have caused through the angered and drug/alcohol damaged years. But by being that 'Tempest' that raging storm of emotion he's attracted a different type of following almost cult like, who want to hear or see that same rage or anger, so in their eye's, a Tempest cannot doubt himself. He has to be just that. Or maybe it's not even rage or anger, maybe he's speaking to all of it. Maybe he's growing weary of doing the 'Tool' thing, or music in general. Invincible does talk about growing older and such, so maybe he's telling all of us that he no longer feels the way his previous self felt, i dunno i go back and forth with myself in my head with what i'm typing and as i'm typing so i could go on and on and on about different view's and opinions about the matter; however, i will end it here. Thank you to anyone who reads this lol.

    You guys have gone through so much Tool; I respect anyone's experience with any particular music but how do ya'll not feel this new album? It's the refined version of everything they've ever done. Not being a smartass or troll, just genuinely confused about how you can enjoy their catalog as much as you guys have and not appreciate this experience in that purview.

    I dont like comparing this album to other Tool albums. It is a great work of art, but it is totally different. I hated it on first listen! Tempest and Pneuma are one of my favorite Tool songs now. It is all about detail - Tempest sounds Rushy and King Crimsony as hell - the intro for example! How many subtle musical changes are there in the rhytms! Invincible is great too - it is a medieval song inspired by traditioonal European music - in those guitar riffs, there are flutes and strings. It is an adaptation of troubadour song in our times. So.... good for them, good that they are always changing and evolving, not playing the same music for decades. I hope the next album will be different and diffucult to adjust to as well. :)

    Very good Reaction, the Kind of Content I subscribed for. :) (It was Rosetta Stoned tht I saw first on your -channel -- Instant-Subscribe.) And yes, I'd also give it a Thumbs up if the Rating had been lower. ;) In Terms of Audio, the funny Thing about The 7empest is that it sounds a Bit more like their first Records, before Ænima, but newer -- that is basically the more "metal" Aspect which you have noticed. When I first heard the Song, I immediately thought to myself "huh, is this about Trump??" -- though I thought the "Tempest" was also referring to the Person in the Song (i.e. supposedly Trump)... chaotic, wild, potentially destructive, and yet a Symbol of Power and Might, but it needs to be kept at Bay so that Tempest won't wreak Havoc... maybe like Trump on Twitter, or maybe like the Corona-Virus or other Kinds of Disasters, or maybe the Line is blurry. Anyway, good Reaction, Thumbs up! :)
