I'm 48 and this is my third year in. Have been a Graphic Designer/Art Director and musician all my life! Knowing how to learn anything is the key. The secret is whenever you learn something apply it, give yourself assessments.

My second year and I'm 38. I was also an art director, graphic designer. It's never too late. Keep it up. You still have decades of tattooing in the tank. Well, that's how I see it.

dude, exactly like me! Musician Sound Engineer, started to tattoo at my 44, but I did draw and graff all my life ... Something that is cool at this age is that I'm not stressed with a career, which takes out a huge amount of pleasure.

I'm almost 48. Have been learning since 2019 and continue to do so every day (and probably will continue to learn forever). I just opened my own studio in February as no-one local was interested in offering me an apprenticeship. I have been an artist for over 20 years, but tattooing was always such a draw to me. I absolutely love it! I think I've finally found my dream career!

Thank you for this video! I’m 55 and just finished an apprenticeship. My mentor is only 36 and never saw my age as a hindrance Lots of challenges and more to learn but loving the journey I quit a successful career in New York State government to be a full time tattooist Now I look forward to going to work every day. There is never a dreary Monday

I know this is a year old comment but it really struck me. I'm 40, a pretty successful diesel mechanic here in Albany NY and I really have this draw to tattoo. I tattooed when I was young in jail but didn't pursue it when I changed ny life and started a family. I feel like I'm too oldbutthen I see comments and videos like this and it really makes me feel like I could really do it.

I drew alot when I was younger up until I was 18 & was shot through my right arm which caused significant nerve damage & I completely stopped drawing or doing any artwork. Fast forward until a couple years ago (I'm 45 now) I caught a federal machine gun charge in May of 2019 & started teaching myself to tattoo with the help of KZread & the internet altogether, so I could support myself in prison. Tattooed tf out of myself & I completely loved everything about tattooing, ended up receiving probation september 2021 & a week from now have my first tattoo next week. Of course its a friend thats getting the tattoo & I'm doing it for free! Keep it up guys, I really enjoy your content- Thanks!

I just turned 35 and in an apprenticeship almost done and been getting inked since 18 and coming from an a tradesman background. Which I think has taught me a lot about working and dealing with all kinds of people and I think that’s helped me more than anything. I’ve already been through an apprenticeship for the trades and that was 1,000 times worse lol.

I’m 46 and always wanted to be a tattoo artist since I was a little boy drawing tattoos on myself and my little brother with our mums lipstick 😂. When I left school most tattoo parlours here in Australia were controlled by motorcycle gangs and was difficult to get an apprenticeship so I gave up. Long story short I always had art and tattoos in my life so In my mid 40’s I bought some coil machines and taught myself and am now fully licensed and insured and tattoo my friends and family on weekends because I still have a part time job to help pay the bills. I find portraits as equally difficult as perfect parallel lines and concentric circles 🤯

Age is just a number, creativity isn't a privilege gifted only to the young. I started late, I worked as an illustrator/graphic designer in music and publishing (still do from time to time), I guess that's where experience comes in to play before computers did most of the work, I was doing typography by hand (at school I would paint band logos and album covers on punk and metal jackets for pocket money) Years ago the tattoo industry was very selective and closed, it was a nightmare to get apprenticeships and most of them thought they were rock stars yet half of them couldn't even draw their own flash or draw at all. The younger generation thankfully didn't have this shitty attitude and were very accepting without ego or selfishness who saw this as a journey. I think if anyone has enough dedication regardless of age yet shows passion, drive and commitment with a modicum of creativity then it's for others to send the lift down and help them. Many years ago people sneered at women tattooing. We move with the times and we stop putting up barriers.

Hi guys, I am 55 and been drawing most my life and my uncle Ted taught me calligraphy when I was 14 then left school with a A level in art at 16years old. Now I've been learning tattooing since September 2021 and love it....I get lost in the art work. I have bills to pay and kids to support so I still have to go to work and that's probably the general story for an older person. But with good eyesight and good general health and sheer determination why not? ...lol

LOL. I just turned 60 a couple of days ago. Have a bachelors degree in art. Started an apprenticeship years ago had to move country. Couldn't find one here in Ireland. Teaching yourself goes very slooooowww. Especially when you doubt everything you do. So basically I'm probably the world oldest apprentice without a apprenticeship. I'm so f......ked. This a 2 hanky story.

Well I’m 51. I’ve got a background in leather carving, that shares similar artistic principles. I’ve even used tattoo stencils for art work on belts and the like. I’m now getting taught the machines by a veteran tattooist of 40 years in the trade, who sees no issue with a man of my years taking up the business. If I was too listen to you guys I’d quit today after this ageist banter. Thankfully my skin is as tuff as my hides! So I’m looking forward too my journey into ink! 👍🏻😘

Must be a misunderstanding. We’re pro older people taking up tattooing. And encourage everyone to get into it. Regardless of age, sex, race or whatever. Tattooing is for everyone 👍 But - as we get older - we have to accept a certain amount of truths. Sadly. Don’t be discouraged. Enjoy tattooing. You’ll have a blast.

@@ThatTattooShow Thanks for your reply, pal. I’m fully aware that my time is finite and that I’m never going to have a long and illustrious career in the industry, no tattoo club of Great Britain for me! How ever as I see it I’ve got a good 15 years left and I’m a creative, artistic type. Always loved tattoos and have a good collection that I started when I was 16 and slowly gathered more over the years. I’ve no desire to leave a legacy of a tattoo studio as Taffy said. I’m lucky enough to know a old school tattooist who’s happy to teach me the basics, even in light of my senior years. Glad we cleared up the miss understanding 😂 To conclude; love your content and have subbed and like what I’ve seen. Look forward to any content you make targeting the “older newbie” tattooist. There still seems to be a lot of “trade secrets“ that pros ain’t willing to divulge. Thanks for your time. 😎🏴‍☠️

I did my first tattoo in July 2019 at the age of 47, I’d barely been tattooing 6 months as Covid hit and was not able to work for most of 2020 so I’m lucky to only have around 18 months tattoo time and I’m about to start a new job in one month. The biggest problem I’ve had getting to tattoo is finding an apprenticeship in the first place, Thankfully I was taken on by a female tattoo studio. My other concern was not just my age, but also the fact I didn’t look like a typical tattooist or that’s how I felt at least. For me my art spoke for it self what most clients don’t know about me because I’m so grey 😂 I was a goth/metal head biker, traveler. And I used to drive a hearse with purple flames on it as I used to be a custom artist airbrushing motorcycle electric guitars and even a drag car. I’ve always been an artist it’s in my blood 🩸 I love tattooing and more importantly than anything else is I love tattooing people it truly is an amazing business to be able design something so personal. It’s not easy but anything worth while isn’t I have a huge mountain to climb just one client at a time doing the best I can do at that moment. I do understand that I now need time and experience. I have Gratitude for every day I wake up and for every job and client I can get, and that is ageless we only have the now for creativity flow and passion. To Chris age isn’t the only thing that can kill you it strikes the young tattooist too, through depression, anxiety, disease and recklessness. Someone who’s older has wisdom on there side too.
