Too Many Miles by Nils Lofgren (originally for Bonnie Bramlett)

Музыка

Video by the great Thom Zimny, at Amy Lofgren's request. Nils Lofgren and Greg Varlotta perform on NYC Circle Line Cruise, July 6th, 2011. Mixed by Frank Marchand. Music mastered by Randy LeRoy. Touring crew; Jon Gosnell, Boo Valdez, Frank Marchand.
"Too Many Miles" was originally written for Bonnie Bramlett during the "Everybreath" sound track project. Although Nils and Bonnie never got around to recording it for that project, Nils has been performing it in his shows ever since. It also appears on the "Nils Lofgren Band Live" double CD.

Growing up with Nils & Grin back in the 70's in the days when Grin were the top band in the MD ,VA, DC area everyone knew he was such a top notch player & total showman we have never forgotten that & when he comes ff the road he comes home to play in MD. & sells out every show. I knew him from those days as he lived with his brother & folks only 15 minutes from where i did . I used to get my goodies from the guys that lived two houses from his parents in Garrett Park as he did as well. Met him & Tommy many times & saw Grin more times than i cam remember. I find it sad he has to play third fiddle to Bruce & Van Zant these days as he could outperform & play them under the table any day of the week. Still our hometown hero .

I met Nils once coming out of the Marriott in Troy Michigan in 1985. I was an Ironworker from local 25 working on a new steel canopy on the side entrance when he came walking out. We talked for a minute, he was very nice about stopping & talking with me. I told him how much I love his music & had all of his Grin LP's & his solo work as well. Then I said, had I known he was in town I defiantly would have come to his concert. He informed me his band wasn't in town & that he was playing in Springsteens's E Street Band. I swear to god I told him, Springsteen should be playing in his band. He smiled, said thanks again & went on his way.

@@peach495 Hello, Very cool you ran into him & it doesn't surprise me at all he would stop & speak with you. He probably was a bit surprised you mentioned Grin . Always the nice guy as he was back in the 70's when i knew him & Tommy. Grin were the top band in Maryland & DC back then & for a good reason, they played their asses off . As a still learning guitar player back then i did get the chance several times to get to play guitar with them & well we all loved to get stoned back then & in his folks kitchen no less . When he still has the time off he will come back here & do a show at a new venue near where he lived & though i would guess his folks have passed on Tommy & Nils will put together some small band & play . That venue is named after the street going to his old house & is called Strathmore. I think these days he views playing back up as just a job but as i said he can outplay both Bruce & Steve in his sleep. Here he was the man but on the world stage no one knows him well enough to give him his due as the top dog. Sad as he is just that. So i agree with you 100 %. Grins drummer Bob still lives here though we are in Frederick not Rockville these day & he owns a record store here & still is playing drums. Hey thanks for your reply & i would like to share one of my own songs with you , It;s a bit old from 87 & just an audio track , you also can click on my icon button to hear the band i'm in . With this virus no one is playing out here so we are on hold till they find some vaccine for this terrible germ. Here's the link or you may click the button to reach my posts. Again thanks it's always nice to know folks still recognize Nils as the pro he is. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hHyekpafdrfYiqw.html Feel free to leave a comment on the post if you like what you hear. This is an instrumental. Rock On....

@@paullevine1813 Hello Paul, thanks for the come back. Nils has always been one of my all time favorite guitarist. He stands tall with thee greatest guitarist I'm my estimation. I've seen 'em all too, with the exception of Hendrix. I've seen Peter Green, Rory, Gilmour, too many to mention here. One of the things I love about his playing is his use of harmonics. Getting a harmonic from a guitar is easy, but do it in the middle of a fast riff without needing to slow down for the feather touch needed. I've never heard another guitarist do it. Here's a fun story I think you'ed like.I went to see J Geils in Ann Arbor MI. in in 1975. The Rockets with Jim McCarty were supposed to play. (Look them up if you don't know them). For whatever reason it turned out to be Grin. Now, I had all of Grins records, but nobody I knew & the people we met next to us hadn't heard of him. I was delighted & told them they were in for a show. They not only got a standing ovation, they got the foot stomping, lighter holding scream for more. What's unusual about this is, regardless of how good a band is, We're usually ready for J Geils to play. Not that night. It was J Geils can wait, we want more of this. J Geils tore up too, great night.

@@peach495 Other than missing Jimi i have seen all these guys as well Rory was one of my biggest influences as was Chicago's Terry Kath.& Duane Allman. I did get the chance to see Peter Green in 79 . So sad to hear of his passing. The Rockets i have not seen but i do have two LP's they did. but i did see Cactus in 71 & McCarty was hot like fire. You may find if you listen to my Lost Time Composition i do use harmonics at the end one one run at full tempo. It's all practice & i started when i was 12 fooled around for a few years then took 5 years of lessons , the rest is practice , & playing anywhere i could . Ha the one time i saw J Giles Grin also opened for them & even as good as J . Giles were Grin stole the show. That was in 72 when Full House came out , problem with them is they played that record pretty much note for note so it was like listening to the album. No need to keep thanking each other as it is appreciated & seems buy us both.

He is so p rofecient that a few minutes into playing guitar it sounds like there is two guitars (if there were, I am just plain ignorant) except I have been saying he was the best since 74. He is not a big draw because his stuff is too sophisticated but he will not hold back That was a strat? Usually go for the gary Moore Gibson but this solo was so biting and raw and yet near perfect that I am not likely to forget it. He really needs to go one on one with Mark knopfler and teach him a lesson or two. I say that because Mark invited him to play on stage and Nils got 20 seconds, and that ain't right.Chances are if it happened Nils would stand in the back in the dark! Try to catch him when he hired Andy Newmark as his drummer Berlin.

+Duff Gordon Nils was so underrated which is what makes me angry. He got his start with Neil Young in the band "Crazy Horse," was featured on Neil Young's "After The Gold Rush" LP, and played so many years with the E Street Band (in the back) when he easily should have had just as many likes as Van Zandt, but didn't. Last Sat. night on SNL when Bruce and band played, I saw him right up on one side of Bruce.....as it should have been...
