I love how Tony thinks he is an expert on "feeling guys out" and basically just frisks Jack the moment he sees him and again before they leave. He is less discreet than Paulie was with Puss.

Tony did the same thing to Puss and Puss shoved him off acting offended. What I didn't figure out is how Massarone remarking that Tony lost weight gave it away. Was it just the fact that Tony hadn't lost weight and it made Massarone look desperate to keep the conversation going?

@@swordothemorning I don't even think it was to keep the conversation going, I think it was his guilt at the situation leading to him giving compliments that weren't true, he was overcompensating. That's what Tony initially picks up.

You get two great self-contradictions from Tony here. He previous stated that he would be able to tell for sure Jack's a rat; now he's like, "I couldn't tell shit! What am I? A mind reader?!?" And then right after, he goes from "He's trying to stay clean; don't you care about your cousin?!" to "Fuck him! He's useless to me!" in a heartbeat. Just shows how impossible Tony can be to try and talk to when he's pissed.

When he's angry, he doesn't cool off after a while, like some people do, but just goes on and on getting angrier and angrier, and sooner or later, someone is going to get hurt. BTW, was Tony B, really Chris's cousin, or only by marriage? Or is it "an Italian thing" (a phrase Ade uses when describing Chris's family relationship to Tony)?

It has comedy on two levels: 1: A lot of the characters are simply quick-witted, which is realistic and true to life 2. The use of humour on the writers' part, which is just good writing etc I think Sopranos is the only show to really pull this off. Breaking Bad for example had outright 'comic relief' characters like Saul and Badger/Skinny Pete, but it wasn't really like the Sopranos where it was just woven into a serious narrative.

Tony did feel Jack M. out-he just didn't know it until he thought back and remembered the losing weight compliment-something about it seemed out of place for someone who is a union business associate and nothing more.
