Tony Stark | Fear is how I fall [SYTYCV]

Фильм және анимация

I'M BACK IN THE SYTYCV COMPETITION!
The challenge was to take a certain aspect of a movie that the movie is not really focussed on and take it into a brighter light (and somehow using a song that doesn't fit...I didn't get that part but whatever -- I think it just means 'take a song you usually wouldn't chose for this fandom')
I mean the task itself is not the real problem I just had some troubles with understanding what they are looking for specifically. Because...taking an aspect of a movie and vid it in the tone that it is originally presented in but not mainly focussed on for me is no paradox this is how I usually vid. SLASHERS AND AU FOLKS OUT THERE KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, RIGHT? - reeeaad betweeeen the liiinees -
So when I read 'look for tiny reactions the actors have' I immediately knew I needed to make something involving Robert Downey Jr. He's the king of micro reactions, seriously. The emotions he puts into a one-second scene can be a million different ones. It then was a choice between Due Date and Iron Man. I started both and then decided that the Iron Man video would be better for this particular task (I turned Due Date into a horror movie which is so much fun but doesn't really fit the task because it's seems a little AU and also there's actually nothing creepy in the movie so...yeah not really.)
Judges Notes:
I chose the character of Tony Stark again, if you haven't watched the movie you might still remember my character study in the first round of SYTYCV. This is how he usually is, a genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist.
(( • Tony Stark | oh no! [S... ))
In the end I wanted to take Tony Stark's Afghanistan storyline and present it much worse than it was shown in the movie though it actually was very traumatic.
How Afghanistan was portrayed in the film:
It just happened to be the main reason for Tony to become aware of the situation he puts people into by building weapons and also he realized that his weapons are somehow sold to terrorists. Also it was his inspiration for the Iron Man suit and was presented as a plausible explanation for coming up with the Iron Man idea.
Though I do think there are few moments in the film where Tony suffers because of Afghanistan, especially the scene with Pepper where he says: I shouldn't be alive.
Which is a line that kills me all the time (WHY ARE MY FAVOURITE SUPERHEROES ALSWAYS SUICIDAL?! ignore that rant).
But no one really seems to care about him being taken hostage and tortured by terrorists (!!! they tortured him and the movie really ignores that aspect, they even cut it out I just happen to have the directors cut dvd WHY DID YOU CUT THAT OUT it's important to understand Tony!), Pepper does tell him to go to a hospital ONCE. But afterwards no one ever mentioned it to him again, basically because he seems to have gotten over it, but what if he didn't?
What if it hurts him that his best friend doesn't want to listen to him and tells him to 'get his head right' first? What is the Iron Man idea was a way for him to process what happened to him?
The paradox is actually that Tony really is the playboy of the century and only wants to eat cheesburgers instead of processing the terrorist attack.
--------------------------------------
Slow Motion is my best friend seriously. I'd abandon every effect, every overlay if someone made me chose between them and Slow Motion, SLOMO IS BEST!!
Also I love black white contrasts and colouring way too much. I willingly sacrifice some logistics just to make the clip look beautiful. That's why sometimes I chose to let the colour in place though it's a flashback that should be black and white CAN'T BE TAMED LADIES AND GENTS.
Jeez I hope I did the task right this time.
It would really be a punch in the face if I don't make this round or don't even get a little close to making it since that really would mean I don't belong anywhere near this contest anymore. Of cause I had to drop out in the round where they analysed and wrote a critic for the first time Oo which makes you really insecure because you don't know if it was a mistake you made only once or if they let you past the last few rounds because of pity or just to meet the number.
So but yeah whatever, not the end of the world...
HERE HAVE AN AMAZING VIDDER PROMOTED INSTEAD:
/ kleindummlaura
She deserves the CREDIT FOR ALL THE THINGS INVOLVING THIS VIDEO.
She told me I could still enter the competition.
She pointed me towards the SONG.
OH MY GOD THIS SONG WAS JUST TOO PERFECT TO IGNORE.
That was quite a killer description.
Cookie if you made it to this line.

It didn't start with the wormhole over New York. It started for him over two years before in that desert convoy...watching the convoy die around him first.

It didn't even start then. I think it started as a teenager. He grew up in front of the cameras, everything he did wrong was exploited and everyone knew about it which brought his father down hard on his and FUCKS SAKE HE'S JUST A KID. He had to be perfect, there was no room for mistakes so he took his weaknesses and learnt to hide them so they wouldn't know, he turned to drink to cope. He was a 15 kid surrounded by people years older than him but he's smarter than them, do you think they would have liked that? He graduated MIT before people his age even started it. So I think I started a long time before, it was just played upon and shown more after Afghanistan

I can't believe that I've watched this... multiple times, and shown it to so many people as THE illustration, and I never left a comment. This is masterful. I wish I could give you an award. It's funny that even though I say I give absolutely zero f***s about what people think, I still can't tell you exactly WHY this is so important to me, or why I'm thanking you so emphatically. I don't dare. But... thanks. Seriously, this is one of the best ones I've ever seen. So you've touched and actively influenced events and conversations in my life, that wouldn't have taken place otherwise, even though we'll never meet. Isn't technology awesome?

This is one of my favorite edits about him because it focuses on one aspect and doesn't try to get all of his life squished into one video. Therefore it's really captivating and doesn't overwhelm you with too much information, yet conveys the atmosphere of his captivity and the aftermath of it extremely well.

I adore this and you have done an amazing job with the lyrics and clips. God my heart always breaks for Tony when reading the comics because I truly don't think anyone can hate him as much as he hates himself. The only time he likes himself is when he is Iron Man. I doubt anyone else could have played him as RDJ is Tony Stark and he can say so much in a scene with just his facial experession, eg it's easy to tell when his fake smiling. Great job with this.

    I just wanted to tell you how much this video means to me. Some friends of the family lost their son in the same way the soldiers in IronMan were killed (by RPG), and it was very hard on me as well (he was 1 day younger than me). This video is not only a tribute to Tony Stark, but to the troops and to the principles that this country stands for in supporting those men and women. Thank you for making this. I cried pretty hard during it. ^^;;

I feel as if you made Tony more human. As in that's how a lot of people in real life would react to that happening... I don't know how to explain it. Great editing, simple, not to too complex and you let the story tell its self. Great job.

Is this why... Tony was so insistant that they aren't soldiers? Beacause he feels if they are... he will be responsible for their deaths... that line makes sense now.

Very ambitious task carried out par excellence. When I was watching 'The Avengers' I was really intrigued by the duality in every character and how it was Tony and Bruce, the two members cursed and blessed by the evolution that is technology who saw through SHIELD's 'noble' venture to save the Earth.Nevertheless it's striking, how far Tony was willing to go in the end.He is not the blind patriot that Captain America is or the selfless philanthropist that Bruce is,yet surpasses them in that moment

This video is amazing! It brings so much more depth to Tony's character! I love the Iron Man movies, but I always wished that they would have explored his character more, especially the things he went through during his captivity in Afgahnistan... But the movie really benefits from Robert's amazing talent! It's incredible how much he can convey with a single glance! He has the most expressional eyes, it's like you see right into his soul... Thanks for making this perfect video! :D

This is the only time that I've heard this song used effectively. I have a pretty negative connotation with this song (just in terms of how the "emo" subculture has adopted it as a cutting anthem), but this turns the song on its head. This video is all about rebirth, and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and overcoming all of these horrible experiences and turning it into something remarkable. Well done.

Ok this video made me see Tony Stark in a whole new light, not the narcissistic genius that always seems to be fine and that we all love, but the person who saw young soldiers die by his own creations and the trauma and effect that it had on him...made him a better person, not in personality but ideals. Let me tell you that the purpose of the video was fulfilled, showing something significant yet not given much importance in the movie and intensify it, well done dearest this was magnificent :)

I love the character of Tony Stark and this video is something I've been expecting to see on youtube for a while... a finally today I came across it. I'm so glad you made this video - I read a lot of fan fiction and I always look for the angsty part there, too, I think it's important to show that all the glamour is another mask he puts on to hide the hurt. The water torture scene really wasn't in the movie? I didn't know - I just saw it at home so I didn't realize that was an extra scene... it's a real shame if that really wasn't shown in the cinema. That's half the point of the character. Anyway, your video is great in idea and editing both.

Your editing, the song the vice overs it's amazing xD I really don't think they touched on the fact Tony saw young soldiers die because of his weapons that he went through a major ordeal and then his closest friends are like -shrugs- "eh you'll be fine but I'm not helping you" . I agree with you when you say Robert Downey Jr is the king of mirco acting.. his very subtle reactions to what Rhodey says when he's asking for help. Anyway I've rambled enough... great video!

It's weird is ptsd usually drives people to drink but with Tony Stark it made him grow, drink less and become a superhero. I won't say it was good thing cause i wouldn't wish that on anyone even a fictional character but it humanize the ironman universe-many of us read his comics forever and loved them but with the movie it brought a human face to a comic legend and made him flesh blood to us and new generation fell in love with Iron-man the imperfect ptsd suffering/man-child that is Tony Stark.
