Tony's smile during the dobro solo is great
We lost a bluegrass legend. Hopefully the last kick in the nuts for me in 2020. We love you Tony RIP
All these years later, I still feel good, very good about having attended this show and having made this video. An amazing moment in my life. Bless you all. It was for you.

Hey man, I was at this show too. I hadn't run into you video until today. Thanks for capturing that special moment. I can't believe how long it has been.
What an amazing talent. A fantastic band. Mr. Rice you are the epitome of class and an inspiration. Thank you sir.
Josh Williams is one of the most amazing musicians in Nashville.
Has got to be one of the best clips of Tony ...his facial expressions tell it all, he's luvin it! All amazing musicians!!
Tony Rice was simply the very best. No one will ever top him.

Tony showed the world what a D-28 was for. He has no peers. RIP my friend.
Tears of joy here. Remembering nights at The Down Home in Johnson City, TN where we sat in awe the year of 1988. There will never be another one close to Tony.

*A grateful fair-thee-well* What a soul! Deepest respect for a man, the top of the American pickers .whose transcendent play, spanned generations
Tony passed away last night. RIP Mr. Rice
Tony Rice, you are dear to the hearts of many!
Great video great music great players. Excellent Excellent Excellent!
I was literally front row center that night with my wife and child and it was the most enjoyable show I’ve ever been to. Sure he was a little past his prime but who cares- it’s Tony Rice!
Tony's solo here is from another planet
Top notch musicians right there!
Ricky Simpkins on fiddle, brother Wyatt on guitar, Bryn Bright onbass, I think, Rob Ickes on dobro
Aaaaaamazzzzing!! Love you guys!!
Just try counting Mr. Rice's hammers and pull-offs...that would make for a great math thesis. I was lucky enough to see him in concert. Simply the best!
Tony inspired alot of musicians.
How about that bass player! ..Tony Rice set the standard for all of us pickers' .. Fabulous job ALL ! WOW

God Bless Tony Rice 💕
His speaking voice always surprised me every bit as his astounding picking.
ultimate!
WOW
You know you can play dobro when Tony Rice digs your solo. Of course then Tony gets up and takes things off planet, but still...
The king plays eyes closed
man, that guy just can't stop picking
My hero
Not only is it hard to play such a long solo, but its just as hard for the rest of the musicians to keep the rhythm up, to keep the changes in there mind, and keep in time. It's mind boggling how good they are.
"Earth to Tony..... Earth to Tony....."
Well, that was fun :-)
Oh my...
Nice one, Josh! I never heard you play mandolin.
Oh the places you've been. Damn.....
If you could get Tony to grin and shake his head from a break you’ve done something, heck of a dobro
Wyatt Rice seemed to be tearing up there a little during Tony’s pass on the runs…..I can understand why! Thx for posting……🎸❤️🎸✝️

You should go check out his bands album. I think it may have been self titled called "Wyatt Rice and Santa Cruz" it's probably one of my favorite albums. It's incredible just how talented all of the Rice brothers are but Toby and Wyatt are just out of this world when it comes to their skills on the guitar.
Is that Simpkins still on the fiddle! Holy wow. I mean Tony sure ripped it up and brought it all home. But that is the best fiddle break I ever heard. And I have been around bluegrass literally all my life. That's it, if you ever have Tony and Rickie on stage, then the 8- and 16- and 32-measure break rule no longer applies.
what just happened?
It'd be nice to have the names of all the band members listed.
Was Ricky Simpkins a member of the Tony Rice unit or a special guest at this show?
oh wyatt rips one here

That would be Rickie Simpkins.
Not to be morbid, but I hope whenever Tony does eventuality pass that they all play this song at his service along with Wayfaring Stranger.
It was really hard to watch Tony struggle through that solo he was really having a hard time for some reason

Tony first expierienced arthritis and radial nerve damage in his left hand and elbow and then developed tendonitis in his right hand.
Wonderful to hear them play, but Tony looked like he was in some real pain. Sometimes the Winds of Fate go in unexpected directions. It can be best to reinvent yourself and move on.

Tony is gonna break his face with that frown.
Tony is of course a legend.Wyatt is an excellent player also but they both struggled horribly to get through their solos. They both seemed lost and unsure of what to do and where to take thier solos.

No dummy. That’s actually how real flat pickers sound. It’s imperfect, modern day, extended improvisational playing, something you obviously know very little about. Now go practice.
Tony's cancer is in late stages now and he's being propped up by his friends. Cudos for just being there.
@vapor9699

Kenny Girard propped up? Don't see it one bit. That song melody he pulls out at 7:37 starting with a harmonic and then chording is simple and genius. Pure Tony Rice!

Kenny Girard I know these are old comments but I agree with you on this one. Not only that but for some reason Wyatt seemed lost as well and could not get it together until the last few seconds. It was kind of painful to watch both of them struggling during their solos.
