Idk why but THUG 1 felt different from THUG 2. Felt more relatable. THUG 2 felt goofier. I love both but THUG 1 definitely holds a special place in my heart

THUG2 tried to be too wacky and Jackass/Viva la Bam like and it failed. THUG1 was relatable because every young kid playing it grew up dreaming of traveling and skating for a living. Everyone playing was living their dream. THUG2 just felt stupid and pointless

I mean they already did the rags to riches story in THUG1 but I honestly would've liked to see the same concept, but spread out with more choices. Such as perusing more money and sponsorships or staying underground and keeping a close following. A branching story and narrative would've been nice.

Fun fact: when your character goes to Tampa Am and they sign up as a pro instead of an amateur, Tony did that shit in real life

I just found this out yesterday! It was the Vancouver competition in the game. I was watching a documentary on Tony Hawk, and when they mentioned that, I was like “shut the fuck up, that was a plot point in Tony Hawk’s Underground!” Made me happy to know that that was based on a true story 😄

I heard a while back that THUG threw in a few real-life stories. I think that's why THUG is so good. You just feel the realness in the story as an up and Comer. It was such a good game that introduced so many mechanics that redefined the franchise from being more then just doing 2 minute runs all the time. I knew as I was playing THPS4 came out 20 years ago that next year's entry was gonna be special since they were tinkering with a sandbox based mode instead of the previously mentioned 2 minute run.

skategod69 THUG 2 was definitely memorable. Had a lot of good additions, but its story was too goofy and kinda cringey. Looking back, the game aged like milk, but THUG 1 aged like fine wine...

@@dwad3ify i wouldn't say it aged like milk at all, it was more like a BRO game, a bunch of guys messing around having fun, it was more like a viva la bam/jackasss game more then a Tony Hawk game, but definitely can't say it aged bad at all THU2 is a classic and is used by modders to this day lmao so idk where that hate came from I think it's just your personal preference.

There is no fictional town that I remember more than the starting location of Tony Hawk's Underground 1. I remember *Everything* despite not playing it for years, anyone else remember all the locations vividly? I felt a palpable wave of nostalgia hit me when the MC said all that at 0:35 about New Jersey.

I’m 27 years old. I played this game around when it first came out on PS2. I still play video games today, Not many but definitely some of the big modern games today. I will still say this is the greatest game I have ever played, story wise. Maybe it’s just bc of the memories I had as a kid when I played this but man I’m telling you I must have played this story over 100 times easily. I loved this game so much. The nostalgia it gives me is insane.

I completely agree when this came out I played it a ton in 2007 and 2008 and it was my favorite game I had ever played up until I got into the far cry and assassins creed series back in 2019

Punching Eric Sparrow after finishing the game a second time was so satisfying. And somehow completing the Moscow line challenge on Sick was insane.

It's weird how that continuity error with the final footage from the camera because at the time your main character would have been wearing his element but at the end of the game it's swapped out with the Powell Peralta because that's what the character is currently wearing...Game logic

I remember the graphics in this game being so sick.

Best THPS game hands down... I remember the commercial showing that you could get off your board, climb things, the build a park was the best it had ever been, and... KISS!

Legend has it Bam is still looking at those tanks

“Skating is supposed to relax me, not stress me out.” This stuck in my head for everything I do.

This brings back good memories. Played this so much, even after well over a decade, I still remember most of the cutscenes dialogue and subtle things like how the player character shacks when Todd says he needs to finish his food before he goes out to eat. THUG 1 was the height of the Tony Hawk games.

19:50 was such an iconic part of the game! made me love that game and the song was so damn epic as well!

Lol Eric offering a $500,000 buyout for a team with one video, after pulling up in a Lambo. I had no idea skating demo's paid so well.

This needs to be remade. NOW.

I wish tony hawk underground 2 was a continuation of this one and showed like our skater getting his footage exposing Eric and becoming pro again but still having to work back to becoming a pro and showing us new spots instead of the same cities keep the cities from thug2 and make it about becoming a pro again

I loved underground 2, never played underground 1, tbh looking from these cutscenes it looks boring in comparison, underground 2 was way less serious and funnier

There are so many quotable lines in this game but by far my favorite is "I gotta finish this meal before I go out to eat." Even at 9 years old I found that hilarious.

16:48 is such a hilarious throwaway line “He probably skates for minimum wage”

As much as I love the THPS series, THUG 1 is in a class of it own. The whole get off the board mechanic was mind-blowing for people who played THPS 1-4. I really hope they remaster this game for the PS5 in the future.

You can see where the characters froze off screen due to this game only meant to be played on a square screen back in the day. chad muska froze, the tampa checklist dude, and our character.
