The Entertainer by Tony Clarke a real classic was played at The Twisted Wheel Manchester back in the day 💕
I just love that little skit he does😄
We Detroiters loved this song and was proud Tony (a Detroiter) was being seen on TV. RIP!
I love his showmanship as well!!
I'm 76yrs old now and lucky to have been young in the best musical era ever, this Tony Clarke classic is the epitome of 60's Black American sounds.

A real gem, sad that this artist died so young.

Gawd this template is so timeless (music). He could have been singing this yesterday. Anyone, anyone, can groove to this.
Can't remember how many times I sang the song in the mirror 😎
That breakdown at 1.50 followed by his little shuffle - what a fantastic find #RIP
OMG, way back in the day!
I have this song on a 45 record! I love it!
Cool dude ..silky voice..up their with Jackie Wilson..
The Scene Club 1963 - Guy Stevens used to play this. Wonderful memories!!

tremendous they dont cut it like this anymore
They don’t make music like this any more. I love it. I love my musicians and “ Entertainers” from that era.
I used to hear this when I was a kid on WTMA (now a talk station) in Charleston SC. Someone mentioned the Brits and their "Northern Soul" movement regarding obscure R&B from the classic pre-synthesizer golden age. Here in the Southeastern US, we call it "Beach Music." Whaever you call it, it's music that makes you feel good to be alive.

Charles Batts a big favourite of my precious dad Who loved his soul music and was a huge collector of soul music as a young teenager in the late sixties I heard all these tunes as a child in England north London in the early eighties Rip real soul music
I have always had a deep affinity for this song.
This, I believe, should be in the top 100 songs made. HOw many entertainers can relate to this song - no matter what, you have to give a performance. He nailed this song., It will always be one of my favorites.
It's 2021 and this "Golden Soul Hit" still sounds amazing! The music and Tony's singing is so authentic and iconic! Love it! 🎶📀🎶❤

1965 was tough for people. Bloody Selma in Alabama , the Watts riot in Los Angeles and the Battle of Ia Drang in Vietnam. Songs like this got people thru tough times.
That era just had a cool sound the beat was solid

Loved this song. Never came off the turntable for days. Loved the sixties. Great days and even greater music.
perfect for conjuring up old memories....life was good.
Wow...after all these years I thought it was Major Lance who sang this song. Thanks for clearing up the mystery.
I remember my mom playing this 45 of this song. I was nine years old. Thanks for the memories.
I remember this song well, as it received a lot of airplay here in Detroit, as he was from here. Sadly, his life ended much too early in his hometown city... a city consumed by gun violence.
2020,I haven't heard this song in years. It's bringing tears to my eyes. The best times of my youth. My parents allowed my sister and to go to backyard dances, sock-hops,dances at other schools. My parents, sister, most of my friends have passed away. Just listening puts me in a good place and thinking about all the fun we use to have. I refuse to dwell on the negative s### that was going, we had family, we had friends, we looked out for one another, we stayed in a neighborhood, not the hood,we respected, teachers, elders , church people, we fought, we argued but we still go along. Music will always keep me happy, especially those memorable songs that gives warm feelings and good thoughts. Thanks KZread, for providing podcasts I can subscribe to.
RIP Tony your the best.....
I used to hear this and many more Soul songs on WKNR or CKLW in Detroit in the 1960's. Brings back many memories.
Such a TRUE SONG.
I walked into the Regal one evening and Tony was tearing the stage up with this. Music of the 1960s was more than amazing. ❤❤❤

My mate and I were living in Windsor back in 1977 and played this song along with The Impressions "People get Ready" over and over...great memories...wonder how my mate is ...I haven't seen him for around 40years...sure he'd love to hear this again
Love this little long lost CLASSIC 💕
1965 was my first dance with the only one ...and that kiss...very entertaining...what a great song!
Still singing and grooving to this in 2019!!!!!!!! Walk off in style!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sweet soul music always have liked this song I remember dancing at the teen center to this jam we would hangout at the corner store and sing this song and other hits that was on the charts back in the day
I was thirteen years old in Nan's house. She lived next door to a rooming house. They played all the hits! I'd sit on the stoop watching " innocently all nonsense." The older guys would just smile at the young girls. They never dare hit in you. Grandmas would school them with a quickness. At least mine did.
The Show Must Go On,❤♥💜💛The Beat
This was my favorite song I still listen to it I remember him singing it back in the day he was so talented with such a tragedy ending his career we all miss you tony!

A LANDSLIDE entertainer.. all round superb artist and never put's a foot 'wrong man'
Tony Clarke also had a few other hits like, Woman, Love And A Man. But even if he never cut another record, The Entertainer is more than enough to ensure his legacy as one of Northern Soul's absolute masters. He is greatly missed.

Still listen to this song thanks again Tony ❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰🤣🤣
I have always loved this song since I was a child. As an adult I can really understand the substance of what he is singing about. I love his voice. His voice is very smooth and yet so soulful. The music is really good. So what you have here is a great voice, good music, real substance in the lyrics, good harmony; this is what I call a very good song all around. Not like that crap they are playing on the radio today. The music today is missing the primary elements of what makes a song good; like vocals, music, substance, harmony and soul.

REAL music back. Fingerpopping and everything. Although I was a young girl ( that black and white film gives it away), I loved this song. Sadness beneath the surface, I can relate then and now.
Tony Clarke was my friend in Los Angeles in the early seventies. He even stayed at my apartment for awhile. An entriguing fellow. But I miss his craziness. Great to see this video. Jerry P.
