We use only 1% of the brain most of the time because we couldn't eat enough to use 100% all of the time (imagine eating 20x of what you are eating now, assuming the brain uses 20% of total energy intake). Besides, it's always good to keep a little extra boost to get out of unexpected situations, even for a split second.

Mummery is now a leading expert in quantum consciousness. Epps is now a chief scientist at NASA. Only joking! They may be great now though for all I know.

The complete works of Shakespeare in the vast majority of books is in black ink. Does this mean that the complete works of William Shakespeare is dull?!

Black in books but how the scenes are played and displayed in everyone's mind ? That is what matters.

Einstein typed his theory of relativity out in one colour. So is that a boring, monotonous manuscript?!
