I agree! It was love at first hearing for me. I am perplexed and annoyed when Toni is referred to as a ‘one hit wonder.’ She was continually demonstrating her dramatic, dance and vocal gifts.

@@MirageCA818 In 1984, it was still a challenge for dance records to crossover on to mainstream Top40 radio unless you lived in the largest markets that had broader playlists. I remember this getting brief airplay on 105 KITS in San Francisco. Take a peek at the 45RPM picture sleeve to this song. Her hairstyle was wild to say the least lol.

It's because the track doesn't fit the ''gay agenda'' of NOT speaking to a broader audience where as the gays love ''Hey Mickey''.........

There is 80s music and then there is the 80s music that is top shelf. Toni Basil is top shelf music and art. Definately a hidden gem on KZread.

She also had a really varied career as an actress, and can be seen in several major movies from the 60s, 70s, etc...she seems to have known so many famous people!

Toni Basil is simply one of the best dancers and choreographers of modern pop dancing around. I think she's fabulous.

This video was way ahead of its time, but it was unfortunate that this hit didn't receive a lot of airplay and was eventually forgotten from the 80s.

This was not ‘ahead‘ of its time (what an overused phrase 🙄), this was very much OF its time (=the early 80s). It was really good though.

This woman deserves a lot of respect for her choreography alone, such an amazing dancer all throughout her career :)

She was so underrated I love this song.

It wasn't until recently that I found out Toni Basil actually had been doing movies in the 60s with the likes of Elvis and Ann Margaret and was even one of the regular dancers in the beach movies with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon. That's amazing, because she looks great in this and the "Mickey" videos.

Believe it or not, she's 40 in this video. Forever and always a great beauty, amazing choreographer and dancer, incredible stylist, and more than capable singer and songwriter. I wish Chrysalis had stuck with her beyond two albums; there's no reason she couldn't have continued to come out with great songs and videos like this and perhaps recaptured some of the glory she reached with "Mickey."

saltwatercb that's because she was in her 40s. It is unlikely that radio play an act over that age. Cher is the oldest female artist to achieve a #1 in her 50s with "Believe" in 1999 and that's was an exception. Things haven't changed so much since the 80s even though now is worse

Speaking of "coming out"...she never married, and only hints at being interested in men...should we assume she is bi, or lesbian?...Of course, she was a career woman first and foremost, but I find it odd, given her knowing and performing with so many movie star types, that she never mentions her more private life!

love the early 80s synth-guitar combo compositions. Later on pop music was all about bass, bass and more bass.

talk about one the most underrated performance artists of the 20th century. She could dance, choreograph, sing, compose. Toni had it all!!

Respect to Ms Basil. Her creative vision, talent and professional attitude has kept her relevant in an industry that has always been cut throat. Her choreography for herself and primarily other artists is incredible. Not just a pretty face but a true artist. Look beyond her pop videos, her career is amazing.

Wow, Toni Basil made some great songs. Listening to this makes her one hit, Mickey, look like a box of pop tarts.

It seems to me, that multi-talented people like her, often see their talents get sort of lost in the mix...it is as if fans only want to know about one or two facets of their favorite artists!...It is almost akin, to the strange way we venerate talented people who die early, but eventually forget about talented people who dare to live a long, productive life!...Why is that?

This album was so much better than her first, and the 12" was great. The only place I ever heard this back then were the gay clubs (and my own mix tapes). It made it to Number 4 on Billboards Dance Charts.

She was an original Locker you can see her on soul train in the 70's She also performed on Saturday night live the first season in the 70's.
