Tone Lounge: Roland Blues Cube Artist

Our favourite demo guys, Neville Marten and Richard Barrett, join forces to present a new long-play demo show, The Tone Lounge, in which they jam, chat, tweak and test their way round new gear that's causing a buzz in the world of guitar.
In this first episode, they take on the Roland Blues Cube Artist, an 80-watt transistor combo with a single 12-inch speaker that's gaining a reputation as the most valve-like tranny amp out there. So what do Nev and Richard think? Join us for a jam in the Tone Lounge to find out...

    Great demo. I've been gigging a Blues Cube Stage for six months and am still blown away by the sound. Instantly sold a Fender Deville 410 that I'd used weekly for 6 years, and never regretted it - the cube absolutely feels and responds like a valve amp, and weighs a fraction of the Deville. I can also use it in the house at .5 and it sounds great - brilliant amp!

    I just picked up a Blues Cube Stage and was blown away. I got it for the .5 watt setting so I could play in my apartment, but took it out to a rehearsal studio and was amazed at how good it sounds. Better than a Fender Blues DeLuxe I think, a little smaller and lighter.

    I got a blues cube stage delivered just at the start of the lockdown needless to say I’ve spent a lot of time with it now. it’s incredible. You’ve got a fantastic blues tone from the get go if you run the channel volumes wide open and set the power to maximum and control the loudness with the master volume. it’s not a valve amp so it doesn’t care if the volume is low Just as long as there’s enough volume to move the speaker. Once the lockdown is over I’ll be culling my valve amp collection because the blues cube has made them pretty much redundant it’s that good.

    Sure, sure, and they make electric violin's that simple have a few curves and they call that the violin body. So then according to your skewed logic any musician playing upon a hand made wooden violin would be an eccentric.

  • @PeterDad60

    @PeterDad60

    7 жыл бұрын

    Maybe, buy think about it. Tube amplifiers were the first electric devices used to make music louder. They work well for that job and many prefer their tones and ability to change out tubes for a different sound. One day in the future, if using a tube amplifier makes a musician "eccentric' as he wrote, then think about the Classic wooden violin that most musicians who play violins still use. However because of electronics they now have devices shaped like a violin but without the hollow resonating wooden body. Instead they use electric pick ups. So what my point was is that if a day comes where most violinists use these electric violins then any musician using the original all wooden and naturally resonant violins they may also be considered eccentric. This has already happened with the automobile and to some extent the motorcycle. When we see someone riding down the road in a vintage automobile, and wearing goggles for eye protection and a warm long jacket for protection from the elements many of us view them as eccentric's. In years to come, I on my gas powered motorcycle will be viewed as an eccentric. With most people using electric vehicles. Or if I ride around in an old 1969 Triumph Spitfire, which btw I did for many years. So No my original post went right to the heart of his comment and was not a random non sequitur as you said. I would suggest that you work on your cognizant skills so that you can understand the written words that you read. Yes I just called you stupid!

    Great sounds and playing. Good straightforward, simple and honest review. I've seen these things live, and on their own, they're great, as they sound here. However, when they're on stage, (as backline only, without being mic'd up through the pa), with other valve amps, the sound is rather thin and weedy, almost lost. Only thing I could comment about the review itself is that the first thing that was mentioned to begin the review was that it hasn't got plastic corner protection or the Roland badge. Then something about looking like any other boutique amp. Perhaps they listen with their eyes as much as we all do, especially the badge snobs

    I use the BC stage (no capsule) amp since more than 3 years in professional gigs (live gigs, studio. Rehearsals) I can say it’s a real professional tools. Lightweight, versatile, ultra warm tone, takes pedal very well. I play jazz, soul , R&B, blues , some classic rock stuff. It remains a tweedy kinda sound. Not really the “fenderish ultra clean “ blackface. Much better than blues junior. The only amp which blows me away is the Fender 57 tweed deluxe. That sound is much more “complex” I’d say. But the BC makes the job the sound is very dynamic and so soulful
