In this video, I captured the steps I used to swap out some damaged front forks on a Tomo Targa LX with a new set.
This is the same process if your thinking about changing the forks on your vintage moped.
It may seem like a large task, but if you take your time and take it step by step you can remove and install new moped forks in a few hours.
I've swapped or changed out forks many times, but I have to admit I must have gotten a little excited about sharing this repair with you. The next time I have to change some forks I will start by removing as many of the accessories as I can like the headlight, speedo, and anything else mounted to the forks.
For the most part, there isn't a definitive way for swapping them except for some of the obvious like removing the top plate first and installing it last when going back together.
Some more tips would be to order or get some more bearings before. This will help with the stress of keeping track of all the bearings when you take the forks apart.
Another tip would be to install the front fender before mounting the wheel. On some mopeds, there isn't a lot of space for installing the front fender while the wheel is on. I lucked out and because of the mag wheel design, I was able to fit tools to install the fender while the wheel was on.
