Tommy Hunt -- One Fine Morning [Top Of The Pops] [9th Dec 1976] UK Top 50 Pop Charts December 1976....HD
Born in 1933, Tommy Hunt founded R&B vocal group The Five Echoes in the mid '50s, before joining The Flamingos just before they secured a huge smash with I Only Have Eyes For You.
Hunt left in 1960 and cut a series of singles for Scepter Records in New York, including a sizeable US hit with Human.
He subsequently recorded for both Atlantic and Capitol but was unable to secure another commercial hit. With his career seemingly on the wane,
Hunt travelled to Germany to play for the US troops before washing up in the UK, where he made a good living on the cabaret club circuit.
One-off singles were cut with Polydor and Pye before Hunt was introduced to Russ Winstanley, DJ at the Northern Soul staple, the Wigan Casino.
Hunt's September 1975 show was recorded for a live album by which time he had signed to Spark records, which was primarily an outlet for publishers Southern Music.
Southern's in-house producer Barry Kingston was a huge soul fan and Hunt even managed to crack the UK charts with a recording of Roy Hamilton's Crackin' Up.. The follow up, Loving On The Losing Side even entered the top 30, garnering an appearance on Top Of The Pops in the process.
He even managed one more minor hit with One Fine Morning and another TOTP appearance before returning to the club circuit.

The Great Tommy Hunt Seen this Guy a few times live. Fantastic Vocalist. At Sheffield Fiesta he threw the Microphone on the floor and sang without it. Such a Powerful voice. Brilliant. Why aren't there Vocalists like this anymore

I thought that was a good policy to stop playing them when they charted. It cost a fair penny to travel down to Wigan from Dundee and I didn't want to hear records that were being played at the local disco's, which eventually happened for our squad after Quadrophenia film when the Casino started mixing pop mod tracks into the playlist. It had been fantastic years 76-79 didn't want to end on a bad note so that was me. Did go down couple of times in 1980 but for me the vibe was gone. 😎✊
