I thought you said Tombstone wasn't your thing? Lol! The story has a way of getting to everyone! I've been studying the Legend of Tombstone since 1984 when Wyatt Earps book was required reading in our senior advanced literature class. Once I read that book the hunt was on to find out every bit of information I could!

Been to Tombstone,AZ. I went there before the fence was up,didn't have to pay for the fight at the OK corral. Been there since. Still just as cool

OVER acted by townies.

Virgil was shot in front of the Santa Fe saloon in Goldfield, Nevada. He later died of pneumonia. Wyatt had a bar in neighboring Tonopah, Nevada. Love the Earrp story, but so much is not told. I really enjoy how you are going everywhere for these videos thank you.

What the re-enactors do today is far more elaborate than when I saw the gunfight about 40 years ago. Then, it was just the initial confrontation between the two groups of men followed immediately by the gunfight itself. Some of the little kids in the audience began crying at the loud sound of the guns going off. In his later years Wyatt Earp did not like talking about this shootout and called it just “a street fight”.

@@jennifursun3303 you are correct this is staged in a "theater".....the fight was actually on the street a stone throw from where they reenact the fight.

Hey Jordan, my honey's grandpa used act the part of the original founder of tombstone cuz he had big beard. He's since passed and is buried somewhere around there.

Melissa Kowalewslki The show you’re referring to is “The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp”. I used to watch it as a young boy on TV. The stories were fictional and little of the show based on actual facts. Hugh O’Brian looked nothing at all like the real Wyatt Earp but the show was popular and I remember it well. As kids, we thought what we were seeing actually happened.

Simply Dragon I am 75 and haven’t watched that series since I was a young boy. While entertaining,, it bears no resemblance to Wyatt Earp’s actual life. Just fictional stories week after week. As a kid and not knowing any better, I thought these stories actually happened.

I think I need to be a little clearer. Just like the Little House Series did a good job of showing Laura Ingalls Wilder’s life... not every show in the series was true. Many were done simply for ratings. The Wyatt Erp series had many fictional stories but many were true. His life was adventurous. He did it all so to speak and wasn’t always on the right side of the law. My reference was more to the creator of this channel who recently went to the Cowboy walk of fame. There were many missing that should have been there ( noted in a previous video). I’m totally aware that pretty much anything that comes from Hollywood is a lie of some sort.

The TV series "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" starring actor Hugh O'Brian was a fictional program with episodes written just expressly for television. What I was saying was I watched the series as a young boy and believed they actually were stories from Earp's life when in fact they were not. Some of the settings were correct and yes, there was a Doc Holliday, but none of the stories were true. There was an earlier TV series called "Wild Bill Hickok" with actor Guy Madison and Andy Devine. None of those episodes were true either but as a kid I didn't know the difference. When I was older and saw a photo of the real Wild Bill I was astounded that he looked nothing like Guy Madison nor did he ever have a sidekick called "Jingles Jones" that used to call out "Hey Wild Bill, wait for me!" Just for children.

Well, no nominations for a Tony Award, but very charming and would love to see this place sometime.

Awesome vlog jordan love watching your channel. I always hoped that you would go to Tombstone someday. I have watched documentaries on Tombstone but I have always enjoyed the way you tell the stories of people in your vlogs.

I've been to Tombstone. So sad, they tore down the house Wyatt Earp was living in, here in Los Angeles when he died. They built a school on that property. Too bad it wasn't preserved.

You might be interested to know that Tom Mix was great friends with Wyatt Earp. He is said to have wept openly at his funeral. He and William S. Hart were among the pallbearers in 1929. See, you can manage to connect to Hollywood in all sorts of weird ways!

The gunfight was actually on Fremont Street. Hollywood changed the location because the OK Corral sounded better.

I loved watching this. You see this in several movies, with everyone's take on it. But this one, live and in person was more real and made me cringe thinking of how life was back then and how easy it was to use guns to solve problems. Thanks Jordan.

There are many stories like this in the wild west that have never been told. My great grandfather was a railroad contractor his camp's belt maker saved his life when bandits raided his work camp. The leather smith offers to make them all new belts and holsters and resole their boots. Lol, only a few men were shot in this raid, however, most men who worked in this camp were much-needed craftsmen that not even the bandits could bring themselves to murder them. I believe not too long after that the US Army tagged along with the railroad building crews.

I went to Tombstone back in 2014 and it was amazing! Sioux City sarsaparilla is the best. Did you do an overnight in the Birdcage Theater?

Epitaph (that was the name of the Tombstone newspaper) by Mary Doria Russell is a fantastic novel about Earp's days in Tombstone. Though a novel, her research is fantastic. The gunfight lasted only 30 seconds and is only about 7 pages in the book. The novel preceding this one is called 'Doc' and is, of course, about Doc Holliday. Though I like Doc, and he is incredibly interesting, I am really drawn to Morgan. I follow Russell on Facebook, and she said her research showed that everyone loved Morgan. He was just an all around great guy, and my heart breaks every time he is killed, whether in novels or movies. I despised his portrayal in the TV show Deadwood, brief though it may be.

Watched the prior vlog on this as well. The gunfighting detracts from the tourist experience, I feel. (They need microphones!) In fact, you do a much better job of depicting these things in your enthusiastic narration. Loved these vlogs. Big fan from the '55 series "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" starring Hugh O'Brian (the guy whose photo was in your room at Todd Fisher's.)

A lot different since the wife and I went 15 years ago. Still go down there just not for the tourist attractions.

Its great for the tourists seeing the reinactments but i do feel also having the mechanical dummies on the actual spot actually cheapens it rather than just being able to view it.

Isn't there a part where Doc shoots a horse that one of the cowboys is hiding behind? Although in the movie Doc is shown shooting in the air to startle the horse

They left out the part where Doc got shot in the hip.

@@Hubcapdiamondstarhalo I'm in the same mindset. As much as I've read about it I'm on the fence but I tend to lean towards the Earps starting it. It's easy to blame the Cowboys because they are consider the "Bad Guys".

@@brent8328 exactly. I don't buy tombstone (the movie) theory. Although I absolutely love that movie to death. I really think they viewed them as trash and as getting in the way too much of politics and they're investments so they had to go. Make it look like they were the aggressor's. It's definitely believable.

There was definitely some town corruption going on in tombstone starting with the earps. I love tombstone but the theory contrary to popular belief that the cowboys were just getting in the way of the earps business ventures and investments as well as politics is the reason I believe this happened. Make the cowboys looks like the bad guys and instigators. It wouldn't be the first time! I can swallow that pill easier then tombstones version although I adore that movie.

The whole issue is so complicated. I believe the Earps were actually put on trial for the killings, but acquitted. No matter how you look at it though, the Earps won and were more able to tell their side of the story. Once Hollywood got hold of it there was no looking back! As I told Jordan in a comment, Wyatt Earp was good friends with Tom Mix and William S. Hart, and Hollywood was more than willing to paint Earp as the hero. The real story is much more complicated though. I personally feel both sides were very much at fault. This feud cost the lives of a lot of people, including Morgan Earp, and Virgil was crippled for life in an attempt on his life. And of course Wyatt would go on to take out the cowboys one by one in revenge for that. So though glorified by Hollywood, a lot of people died in this conflict.
