Well the Xbox 360 and PS3 are consoles and even if there's no DE for those it's still the "standard" I guess. So you can still see that PC blows the 360 and PS3 away. I think the Definitive Edition for the next gen consoles were just there to show the change from previous gen graphics to next gen graphics.

Everyone listen up. The only reason PS4 and XBOX ONE look better than PC on this game is because the developers had completely re-done the textures and resolutions specifically for the Next Gen consoles to take advantage of the new hardware. However the PC was stuck with a tuned version of the then current gen consoles textures etc as why would they go through the trouble of giving the PC version a complete face lift when they had the next gen versions to worry about. Everyone knows, even the console fanboys that if the Next Gen version of the game was also developed for the PC, the next gen consoles would yet again be triumphed by the PC's superior hardware. Good day.

Khechari Uh, be honest with yourself. I'm a PC gamer and have been for years and I can say that the next gen console versions do look better. HOWEVER if you actually read my comment you'll see the reason why this is so and you would have noticed my statement: "Everyone knows, even the console fanboys that if the Next Gen version of the game was also developed for the PC, the next gen consoles would yet again be triumphed by the PC's superior hardware". I also played the game completely maxed out 1080p so I have actually played the game with the highest settings. Specs: FX 6300, XFX R9 280 , 8GB Vengeance Pro etc...

Even.Ways Music Same with me. And look at the eyes at the ShitBox One version. #AnimeEyes WTF. The PC version looks more natural, that the PS4/ShitBox One version. And I think I can run it at max setting too - Palit GTX 750Ti 2GB, intel core i5 3.2GHz and 16GB of RAM. What do ya think m8 :D

Lara looks much more expressive in the first version. Her eyebrows reflect the desperation and suffering during tense moments. The new version has better color and texture, but appears stiff and emotionless sometimes... Like a pretty doll. Because of this, it is my impression that the facial gestures and the voice acting don't match very well from time to time.

+Christopher Johnson pc version was a lot older than the other versions. pc version was the normal one and they used the definitive edition on the others as far as i know which enhanced the graphics. FOR ONCE the console version has higher resolution graphics. oh well

+Timotarius It's not the first time, originally the "high definition" graphics pack for the original Half Life back in 2000 or whatever, it started out on Dreamcast - the leaked DC version has those graphics by default. Of course, back then things were a lot more muddy with all the different manufacturers of hardware compared to now

the original rendition was made with real life motion capture of an amazing actress and you can see they replicated her expressions down to the dot of every detail, and that rendition I feel made the audience feel fear when they saw fear in her. We became empathetic with her. Unfortunately I feel this is were the new render falls short because they cut off much detail and expression with having in mind of giving off better crisp resultion graphics and what not. Not only that but the color schemes clearly changed, the atmosphere is still the same, but I don't think that's what the creators had in mind at the beginning, to me it's clear they wanted everyone to feel every single second the characters felt by giving you human detail, realistic expression, the toned color scheme Needless to say I am glad I got the non-definitive edition for my console and I will forever keep it treasured

It's really funny after watching videos like this of PS4/XB1, and seeing how close the graphics are in comparison to each other. And then recalling last year all the Sony fanboys talking about how much more superior the PS4 will be to the XB1, but now that both systems are out, there's absolutely NO difference LOL. All it was, was Sony fanboys hating on Microsoft because they did not like Microsoft. The next-gen console war was based purely on biased opinions and not on real specifications. Glad I've always been a PC guy.

On most multi platform games PS4 will look better, it has the power to run games in 1080p and on 60fps. Xbox One is still running 19th century shit, if you look closely the capacity of grass and other little things does make the PS4 look better.

But the definitive face grown on me over time coz the eyes and facial expression, and polygons are far more detail and alive than the older one, it just tells more story in terms of a character to me. When i look back to my PC, the 2013 face I feels slight plastic in comparison. Also it doesn't look like anyone would ever look like that, a bit cartoony ... Now I prefer the definitive version.

2:03, 2:47 Look at her skin. X360/PS3/PC version clearly depicts skin color more naturally in a snow storm, while PS4/XOne depicts her skin like Lara is at a beach on a sunny day. Also, in a snow storm eyes doesn't catch reflections of light, because there is no directional lightning. 3:39, Lara's face in X360 version has much better depiction in steamy environment than on a XOne. 4:34 Again, you don't expect a clear directional sunlight in a stormy cloud weather, but apparantly PS4/XOne has it.

***** Are you talking about The Legend of Zelda games? It's Tomb Raider, it is made to look realistic as possible and players expect it to look realistic.

While the definitive edition graphics are obviously better, I just really prefer the original one on PS3. They made Lara's face look strange in the definitive edition... like she lost a lot of the innocence and sweetness to her expression. She just looks cold and pissy in the definitive edition. Hell, it doesn't even look like her. I just don't like it.

I've only played the Definitive Version. The graphics are great on Lara, considering how it's been rebuilt from the ground up, matching a lot closer to the CGI/promo stills we see for this game. But something always felt off to me. Whenever she expresses sadness, sorrow or worry, her eyes don't show it while the PS3/360/PC version does. It always felt "off" to me on the PS4 version, her voice sometimes not matching her expression on the eyes. This is something that sadly got lost in translation during the remastering for this game and it's a common mistake I see too often. That said I still enjoyed the game of course.

PS4 Edition looks absolutely fantastic, but it's pretty dumb considering that they are not using a defenitive edition on the PC. Which ofcours would look even better.

My thoughts exactly. There is so much detail in everything in the new versions, but it seems that these newer releases lose so much from what the PS3/PC/360 has to offer, since a big thing with this game is the emotion of Lara and her growing to be the Tomb Raider we know. I prefer my PS3 copy over the PS4 and Xbone version. I do hope that the developer learns from this mishap.

I will keep my pc version. The innocent face fits this game's atmosphere way better. Sure, the new one looks more like classic Lara, but in this game, she is not the badass femme fatale we love, YET. Leave a more confident look for the sequel. The only thing I like in the new version is the more saturated colors, but I can get that on the pc with an ENB mod, so no problem.

Original Lara's face is way more expressive, Definitive Edition Lara is a like sociopath with no emotions

For me, this game had the perfect mix of exploration,combat, character/weapon progression, and story. I just played through it again recently, and all I kept thinking was....There's no way they can top this. I do think there's room for individual improvements, like more character development, and more variety in the locations. But as a whole, it just feels good. Its easy to play for hours and hours. The excellent pacing keeps you going.

Its funny how people are bagging the Xbox one version but in reality, The PS4 and Xbox one version looks the same imo. And everyone needs to face that the PC version is not the best compared to the consoles get over it! And is funny how PS4 brag that they're stuff runs at 60fps, when in reality it still looks the same as the Xbox one version.

Agree, why? >> The PS4 Pro and the upcoming Xbox One X can display 4K resolutions with HDR color technology. That's impressive - but PC gamers have had similar options for years, with considerably more granular control over things like textures, ambient lighting and even how much a character's hair waves in the breeze. There's no two ways about it: A decently powerful PC can display better graphics than its console brethren. A very powerful PC can blow a console away. (No offence PS and Xbox Owner)

great comparo in any case. i can really appreciate the post processing that has gone into this.

This isn't too fair of a test or should I say this isn't proving too much. A well rounded Gaming PC is more capable than any console to date. But because the majority of the market is on consoles, why would any sane developer make a game that the consoles can't handle? If a developer made a game for a console and then made the same game completely separate just for PC, the PC version would always 'look' (and play) better. To argue that is sheer ignorance. Also, this test isn't comparing which systems are more capable either. Only, how far the developers went to making the game look good on each system. Of course the PC could run the same version graphically as the Xbox One and PS4. EDIT: I would also say that adding 'better' (higher res) textures isn't going to strain any modern tech too much. So when comparing platforms graphically, I would ignore certain texture changes (unless there's a HUGE difference) and on that note I would also ignore the brightness. This is not to be mistaken with lighting and shading, but more vibrant colors and an overall brighter screen isn't anything more than just ... well brightness and colors. Not strenuous at all. I can adjust the brightness and color on my monitor/TV or even in game menus. That has next to no effect on wait a platform is and isn't capable of. EDIT: Also the PC version was released BEFORE the next gen consoles version. This should prove my point even further.

1. PC ( always the best) 2. PS4 ( best choice for consoles and surprisingly beautiful) 3. XBone ( looks good but still behind the PS4) 4. PS3/Xbox 360 ( both of them butcher the game with their outdated hardware)

***** nah, they said they did something with textures, if i recall correctly they added another layer under the current one (which they made "transparent") so the light goes through the model and reflects inside of it (of the second layer) so they achieve deeper colours and less glare.. and its only for ps4 and xbox one

Lol, come around to my place and see the PC version and tell me again it doesn't look better than the console version. You do realise consoles run low end PC hardware, right? That's how they keep costs down. Some high-end graphics cards alone cost more than the entirety of an Xbox One or PS4. The Xbox One version in particular is horrendously over-saturated and Lara's face is a bit strange. For some reason the PC footage in this video is somewhat blurry and soft. I was playing the game but 10 minutes ago with all settings maxed, 16x AF, TressFX, ultra shadows, etc, and it looked sharp and gorgeous.

The only reason why this game might look slightly better sometimes on the ps4 and xbox one is because they re-rendered the textures and skins for the the next gen consoles however this game came out before next gen consoles did. The only thing that looks better on the next gen consoles is her skin. She looks like she's more flush in them more color to her skin. She looks paler on the PC version. Now compare Watch dogs PC version to console or BF4 even which came out at launch? You'll see that PC looks better. Don't be mad at PC gamers because you can't afford a $1500 plus rig yourself. Broke ass console gamer.

Oh, hey I have a question. Where can I watch one of these videos for 'Rise of the Tomb Raider'? I'd love to compare graphics between PS4 and XB1 for that game.

My opinion: 1 - PS4 (the contrast looks better than on Xbox One) 2 - XBOX ONE (missing 1 or 2 details comparing to PC and PS4, I personally didn't liked the color contrast) 3 - PC (may look more realistic - eyes and stuff - still above next gen if you consideer everything, not just her face) 4 - PS3, XBOX 360 (they look pretty same, but if you pay attention you can see more details on PC)

the face on the PS4 and XBox One version looked... fake... Anyway, the textures on PS4 and Xbox looks to be of a higher resolution. The PC version is gorgeous, but the PS4 and Xbox one sure got much more pixels to work with... sad that this high res textures might never get released for PC users...

Michael Surjawidjaja agree, unless they are generous to make a remake for pc, which i don't think they aren't generous enough XD, its obvious since ps4 just come out, it be less work on updating a game graphic then making a new one from scratch, and since there are hardly any game for ps4, they are expecting for this remake to sell a lot.

***** SSAA is antialiasing and tressFX is a hair rendering engine.It's the textures that is different.It's simply more "definitive"..BTW I play this on PC.Console ones seemingly have higher contrast.A common technique in order to make things look more impressive.If not then it''s perhaps caused by the recorder when compressing the video.As for IGN being a dick,well everyone entitled to their own opinion.

So quick question- why does the PS4 version have black T-top and other versions have grey?

The ps4 version overall just looks way smoother and overall graphics wise better. Not bashing on the other systems, its just the obvious truth.

From reading these comments I see im not the only one who thinks her face look better and more like a women on the 360/ps3/pc while on ps4 and xbox one she looks younger and asian.

From what i saw it was , XO > PS4 > PC and i still can't decide which console to get i already have a PC i'm sorry to say that but i hate playing games on it , except for Dota 2 :) oh and i know that PC always has the better graphics and it's the superior gaming machine bla bla bla so don't jump on me.

You can't compare them. Standard edition is used for PC here and Definitive Edition (upgraded graphics) is used for consoles. Try comparing PC with PS3 and X360. It's like comparing the PS3 and XBOX360 versions of GTA V with the PC version and saying PC is better. They're different. If PC gets a definitive edition then, it would look better than next gen consoles.

Is PC gaming graphically superior? Yes, very much so. Depends on your rig, but my problem is not with PC gaming, it's with PC gamers. They just love to wave their dick around a little to much. Your PC can run 120fps, great, but don't try and belittle everyone in the process.

PC gamers hate on consoles because console technology is so outdated compared to PC's. Thats a big problem for the ENTIRE gaming community, not just the PC gamers but the console gamers as well. The reason we hate on consoles is because we have to wait for you guys to catch up for our graphics and gameplay to be better because the console tech cant handle what a pc can so they make games for consoles first then PC is an afterthought. Which is bad for both the communities. 1. because PC's arent living up to their full potential unless they make a PC exclusive game/dominant game and 2. because console players are getting ripped off entirely by old hardware being shelled out every few years being sold as the "latest and greatest" when in reality its not. PC has been able to do what the ps4 and xbone can do for at least 5 years. My pc played last gen and it will play next gen without any upgrades or new anything to buy. It makes me sad you guys buy into all the hype when really youre just being sold outdated trash.

The problem with these videos is the subjectivity of color temperature and capturing, which are not related to power at all. You have to look at resolution, framerate and other technicalities to point the actual difference out (KZread f e can only show 30 FPS). The PC version of Tomb Raider has a setting for hair quality. The options are "Normal" - the one you can see on 360, PS3, and "TressFX" - the one you can see on XB1, PS4 and PC. The difference is quite significant, and the problem with the PC version is that Nvidia GPUs struggle horribly with TressFX. It's an AMD technology and it's poorly optimized for Nvidia. I can run everything on max settings, but once i turn TressFX on, the game breaks down to sub 20 FPS. Unplayable.

PC - no subsciption charges for online games like B4 and titanfall, better cooling and cheeper games, but the PS4 and Xbox one do look better, this is down to the extra effort put in by the game makers not the raw power of the machine.

Matthew North You guys realize that the you're being charged 60 bucks for a skin pack and greater contrast. I can get it on pc for $3.49. You always talk about gameplay over graphics well as a PC gamer I see no reason to buy the same game just for better graphics. It's a waste of money and it should piss you off. It was laziness and money grubbing that prevented them from releasing the version with higher quality models.

there is even the TV contrast to enforce the feeling of a colorful, towards the xbox one. I think the PC victory is evident, and light years ahead of any video-game.

I just want fun games..

In some shots the PS4 looked best, in others the PC. I'm actually surprised at how much worse the XB1 looks compared to PS4, I thought the differences would be negligible but it's quite noticeable. The eyes and hair look a little better in the definitive edition compared to PC, but I still prefer her old face.

That's interesting, as I thought both next gen systems looked equally good for the most part. They kind of looked different, with the Xbox One being a bit brighter, but I couldn't really say one looked better. Maybe the PS4 by a small margin at times.

Honestly its hard to conclude anything from this. This is coming from a PC owner. The biggest differences are mostly lighting and contrast changes and can can only be REALLY noticed by the trained eye.

You're kidding right? The PC version looked almost as bad as the 360/PS3 Version while the XB1 Version was almost on par with the PS4.

If people really think this means ps4 beat pc, no it does not. All this means is that Tomb Raider definitive texture pack is better than the original ( well duh) If you see the original and compare it on pc/ 360/ps4 you will see the right comparison.

I think that PS4 is better than other participants.Lara on the PC and consoles are very different people. On the PC, courageous, and on consoles more beautiful.

They were using Definitive Edition for XBONE and PS4. It contains updated textures and so on. While PC, 360 and PS3 have the same textures and details, but PC can run them maxed out.

Trying to compare graphics on youtube is like asking a legally blind person to choose between a bunch of masterpiece paintings to tell you which looks best.

1. PC runs at higher framerates, well over 30fps, KZread displays 30fps MAX. 2. The compression of the video, while not awful, is enough to blur out the finer differences in graphics. High framerates are impossible to notice and graphical fidelity is blurred. Seems pointless to me.

***** Frame rate is part of a frame rate comparison, not a comparison between the graphics of a game on different platforms. There, quite literally, is no detail too fine for this video. I can see the aliasing just fine. I can see the texture filtering just fine. I can see the shading and shadows just fine. If you can't, you might want to see an eye doc.

Or I'm getting compression issues on my end because KZread is hardly that consistent, but yeah, let's just insult my health. Framerate is graphics, how many frames of graphical content is produced that creates smoother looking movement is a graphical element, it is just also indicative of performance.

One57Games Nah dude, xbox one has filters, that's cheating to look pretty.

Graphically, PC will always win although it seems like the PC version is an upscaled version of last-gen. They reworked Lara's head in definitive edition for next gen which makes the face look much better. I started on console and finished on PC, found keyboard and mouse much better in the end.

+Matthew Rothery Most games are graphically made for console, where the PC blows the consoles out of the water is frame rate and resolution, neither of which are shown in these rather lame comparison videos. All of us that own a decent PC AND a console sure know the difference.

I was looking so serious the video until i see "IGN" and than y close the video and search other.

The PS4 and XBO make the PS3 and XB360's version look like molded plastic!

I have an Xbox one and I love it. But there is no possible way it looks better on it. I think most people fail to realize the ps4 version runs at 60fps and Xbox one only 30fps... KZread only shows 30fps so you won't see a difference in the video.

Sky Obsession Too bad 30 fps has nothing to do with how good stills look, or the detail. Will just look smoother in motion, not "better" graphically.

Actually you are wrong, the PC version has higher quality textures. The PC version also has higher anisotropic filtering, higher quality anti aliasing. The PC version is the ONLY version to use tessellation , horizon based ambient occlusion , bokeh depth of field, DX11 enhanced soft shadows, super sampling , 3DTV support and locked 60fps. The PS4 version has a new redesigned Lara. Hell did no one even bother to click on the two links I left at the top of this page?

Did you used some Voodoo video card for this comparison? I'm using tablet ASUS T300, the video card is intel 5300 with 1GB shared memory. On normal graphics quality it is looking almost like Xbox One!

The difference is that PS3- A pale Lara Croft with a solid hair. XBOX 360 -Same goes for you. PC- Looks just like the old consoles but the hair have strands. PS4- A tan Lara that doesn't look looks like Lara Croft. XBOX ONE - A Robotic Lara that doesn't look like she's struggling, instead she looks like as if she doesn't have emotions.
