Clip from the rewatch of Episode 12: Leech ft. JOHN SCHNEIDER:
Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum are joined by Jonathan Kent himself, John Schneider! John joins the guys as they recap Episode #12: Leech. Welling talks about what it was like to play a ‘power-less’ Clark and his confusion of there being two different Ashmores who appeared in Smallville. Rosenbaum remembers uncomfortable Lionel scenes and this final episode with Kelly Brook. Schneider was a treat. John fondly remembers his time on the show that paved the way for superhero shows, while remembering going to bat for Tom with WB, teaching him lessons on and off set, and never getting lost in what the lead character was doing.

As Jonathan protected and guided Clark on the show, John protected and guided Tom. Great story.

It's like what Nathan Fillion was taught and carries with him. The lead sets the tone of the set. Jonathan has the experience to recognize that and the lack of ego to mentor so that Tom sets the tone without having to set the tone. That lack of ego also means he brings everyone else to his level so that he shines that much brighter from their light.

No-one with an inch of humanity sits back and watches a young person being worked to death and says NOTHING! - Well done Jon💋💋
Smallville was only as great as it was because of the incredible actors that put forth 120% effort. You guys are AMAZING!!
It's so sweet that John ensured Tom would get a ride to and from work! That's lovely 💜❤️
Because of what John did, Jensen and Jared were able to do the same on SPN. It’s true though, you can’t have your QB driving at night or sometimes pulling over the side of the road to sleep. This should be an initiative and part of the production cost and not a request. Safety first.

@@rolandofgilead43 they had security for her in the studio but her dad was driving her to work at the time. The least they should have done was get someone to carpool with her. It was the decent thing to do. Even from a business point of view can you imagine how people would have reacted if something happened. If these stories got out then. The studio with a show about a young Superman protecting people and this is what these things were happening Honestly, I am disappointed no one was there to get Allison the help she needed before things really went wrong. Kristen and Laura was very nearly in the same waters. As far as I know Kristen joined and Laura was only lucky her time in the show was over and she was moving somewhere else.

@@jonreese7066 yep she did join but it's really never really clear when she left as fir alison not getting help to get out to take a guess she may have had it that well plus to use tom as an example he didn't hang with her either he did his job than went home to his than wife. And maybe during the time on the show and I have no proof of this so I'm only guessing on my part maybe it wasn't as bad as it later became during the time the show was on? But than I could be wrong on that, as for kirstens stalker yeah they should have done more for example they banded together to get tom a ride to work and home, why not do the same for kirsten? I don't get that logic on why that didn't happen, I dunno maybe her dad said no if she was still living at home at the time
John Schneider is so awesome 😭
As someone who had untreated (didn't know I had it) severe sleep apnea for a number of years, I'm familiar with how dangerous driving exhausted can be (and how lucky I was to survive long enough to get treated). I am so glad that Tom Schneider got the cast together and stood up for Tom's safety in that circumstance. Kudos to all of them for cutting through the BS and getting people to see and fix the problem.

I got into a wreck my first acting gig. It was late, raining working 12-14 hours and was heading home in the rain, in an area I don’t know and some idiot hit my car. So yes this is totally acceptable to be given a driver for your main lead. The guys there 14 hours, exhausted. Good going for this crew👏👏👏
"You can't BEAT your plow animal!" 😂
Wow. Loved John Schneider in Dukes of Hazzard as a kid. And Smallville later as a young adult. Nice to know he's a hero in real life as well.
taking care of their lead should have been a no-brainer. Credit to Jonathan for putting his foot down
John Schneider seems like such a genuine good person ❤
It’s so great to listen to John Schneider. And it’s obvious Tom has a huge respect for him. They have real family dynamics.
Such a feel good story. A cast that looks after one another makes magic.

I loved the Smallville better than most of the CW shows today. I think they spent more time and care in creating each episode on Smallville than they do today. Also it was well written show with great characters and excellent actors.
Wow 😳 it's amazing! Wile Tom was playing a superhero that can run fast from Kent's farm to Metropolis in matter of seconds, he was actually working 12 hours and than had to actually drive himself for 1 hours to get home 😳😲 So basically, everything he was doing on screen with superpower, he had to do it in real life with his human regular power.
Obviously Tom and John had a genuine relationship off screen and that’s always good for when the onscreen part comes it will come across better. I agree that Tom needed a driver, working that much under those conditions would’ve been unsafe for him, it’s not a case of anyone having an ego
This is why Smallville made an impact on so many.
I'm re-watching Smallville again 😏 Thank you for the podcast and your efforts to make it happen. Much love 💚🙏
They are like a family in real life must have been very special making this series and being together for so long

Smallville had a huge impact on life when i was a teenager. Man i still have fond memories of that series. I have all f the seasons. thankyou for your work on the show. It was incredible to me.
John learned a lot from Denver Pyle aka Uncle Jessie! And passed it on to the Smallvile cast!
I love the helmet in the background. I still enjoy having Superman as our QB.
Tom Welling and John Schneider need another show together.
Salute John "Bo Duke" Schneider for putting humanity first against a corporate giant like WB on behalf of Tom Welling. Much Respect 🙏
They really couldn't have found a better buy to play the man who would raise the boy who would later become Superman.

i just got into the show and started watching from the beginning, just getting to season 4 so i still got a lot left to watch, and Tom sure has changed since the show would;ve never recognized him
I think this says a lot about the chemistry between these guys and all the acting Tom probably didn't have to do to portray a son who admires and respects the character of his father so much.
Wow, crazy story. Yea, he had to have a driver. Great work.
What a legend. Unsung hero all these years!

Schneider is a great genuine guy 12 hours work plus 2 hours driving thats long day ! When i was in vancouver as a steel worker the street was closed off the crew was out and a camera man not to sure if it was smallville or supernatural as both were active in 2007 2008 something ? Does time fly by.

Isn't it hilarious that Michael Rosenbaum has the best picture quality in this?

I have so much respect for this gentlemen. He’s a real OG. An OG helps out the young ones coming up.
I get their concern but I literally do the exact same thing and I’m doing a whole lot more physically exhausting work than acting a few scenes and sitting in a luxury trailer…
wow Michael Rosenbaum has hair... i was shocked
Please remember that there are people out there right now who work 12 hour shifts at physically demanding jobs and _plenty of them_ don't have a driver. Go capitalism!
Total respect to John Schneider (who's from my neck of the woods, actually, I went to the same high school he did many years after). I don't feel like there's adults in the room anymore. I'm 45 at this point, and I feel like my parent's generation were the last to value responsibility. If you want to have eyes rolled at you, just speak up when no one's thinking about likely or potential negative outcomes. Or even the other way around, where people are going to panicky lengths to protect against astronomically unlikely outcomes. People scoff at reason when it's inconvenient these days, and it doesn't feel like the "adults" are in charge anymore. (Obviously I'm not saying kids are in charge, just that the modern model of adulthood lacks that particular maturity.) But what John just shared reminds me of what reason, rationale, and responsibility used to feel like back when I was the irresponsible one. I grew up to catch on. Doesn't feel like much of our generation did.

Maaaaaaaaaaan, can John come talk to my boss? 😢🥺

This Welling guy is unbearable. He wants a personal driver now!?! Well he's the star of the show and he may die in an auto accident from lack of sleep. Also, the cast is asking on his behalf. Oh. ok, well when you put it like that.
