This is the 12 Tom Waits interview I've watched today. Always been a fan but I didn't realize how funny and charismatic he was in the wild.

Loved this...I actually remember seeing this on TV when it aired. I had the album and I'd never seen Waits perform. It was amazing! ...And, cos I haven't read ALL the comments - but, wondering if anyone noticed the absolute charm and grace he and the band had when he forgot the second verse: "Make sure they play my theme song / I guess daisies'll have to do...etc" and so did the last verse twice...and still KILLED IT! Love love love Tom Waits. Cheers

nickbagelboy You asked what was Letterman shaking that reminded him of fairies. Think you'll have to go to a music store that sells ethnic instruments. Mark Jordan This is just a hunch really, but it would seem to me there was considerable disdain between the two. Probably started in '83, maybe sooner for Tom, both being pushed into something by the powers that be. One being too comfortable in the spotlight, the other being too uncomfortable. The difference in '86 looks as though both were more comfortable with the vibe of it. As time progressed further there became an understanding between the two. In more recent years, I get the feeling they are still messing with each other, just on a more casual/friendly level.

Late night TV legend, w/ 11 seasons under his belt. Yeah, TERRIBLE interviewer. And I'm sure you've watched EVERY episode, so you'd know, right?...hahaha. Dave had interviewed a shit load of guests up to this show w/ Tom, and he probably met and spoke - either briefly, or in extended conversations or meetings - with more people in any given month during his Late Night years than you will in a decade, or possibly a lifetime, so he can be forgiven for asking a few of the same questions years after a previous interview. Not by you, of course...dipshit.
