Tom Waits - Heart of Saturday Night (First ever live performance)
Музыка
Here's a nice one! What I believe is one of Tom Waits' first live recordings of The Heart of Saturday Night.
Subscribe for more! I'll be uploading more rare recordings of some of his later stuff for those who prefer Tom as he got older.

Ah Tommie, we were so young. Always and forever, you are the heart of every Saturday Night for me
Damn, Tom sounds like a pre pubescent teenager. Sweet history for my collective heart of music
He s just raw emotion right to your heart ❤️
If this was his first live performance it must have been shortly following his Coast Guard Service. I figure he served from 1967-71. The Coast Guard is the nation's smallest military service and, like Tom Waits, I am a proud veteran 1962-66.

ruaidhrischultz you're both bad asses
rolling along with Tom on the radio opening up and sharing his secrets that feel like he's been reading your mail is the magic of the moment.
WONDERFULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TOM , wonderfullllllllllllll MUSIC
By far and away the BEST version of this song that I have heard. He sounds so young.I bet it was an Olds88.Gas'n her up cost about 5 bucks back then.Viet Nam and the "pill" changed everything.Where we are today is the result.Maybe,if they started making Olldsmobile Rocket 88"s again........Hey,I'm allowed to dream still.
really cool this early stuff is raw and fresh
Fabulous
Who the hell gives this a thumbs down?!? You should reevaluate your lives
Never heard this version, thanks for making it available.
In the intro Tom Waits says Jack Kerouac Inspired him to write"Looking for the Heart of Sat.Nite".

Absolute classic! Thanks for sharing ✌️🐝
This is fantastic. One of my favorite Tom Waits songs. Thank you for uploading it.
Wow! Been following Tom since 1978. What year was this performance? His voice was so much higher when talking. Sounds very young. He didn't have that gravely voice from cigarettes! Thanks for posting that recording. ✌❤🙄

Hard to tell. This sounds like 1971 or so. He referred to Bob Webb, one of his early collaborators and former owner of the Heritage.
Wonderful wonderful song. Thanks for sharing.
Classic Waits

A tribute to kerouacians ❤️..
Even early on I realize that he is cooler than I could ever hope to be and yet all I want is to be close the stage, but not too close or he’ll know every ounce of me is imposter thru and thru when standing in his shadow. Yet somehow I know he won’t be judging me. Because to judge me is to come back down to then place people like me roam. The NPCs running in some background thread, background process...Keeping the serial port open so a receipt printer can punch out numbers while somewhere a fighter pilot just stepped down the ladder and walked into the cafe to find the band wasn’t able to make it.

Is this version available on any of his releases? I love the song and have never heard this wonderful, raw, masterpiece. I would love to have it on my iPod. :-)

It's on CD! Found it by blind luck in a closing HMV here in Montréal. The album is the full broadcast, it's called "On the scene '73, KPFK folk scene broadcast". This album is amazing, such beautiful rendition of his earlier songs. This one just cracks me up to tears, it's so beautiful.
Who played guitar on this? Does anyone know?

There’s at least one other live version that is similar to this and it’s Tom playing guitar and singing.
Are we sure the speed of the recording is correct?
