Tom Waits - Glitter and Doom Concert Experience (2008)
Музыка
A compilation of professional footage and fan films to reconstruct an entire Tom Waits concert from his "Glitter and Doom Tour" of 2008. I used all the released soundboard audio that had footage to accompany it to make a concert film that should make a good experience of what it would have been like being in the audience.

There might be more unreleased professional footage out there of this tour, so we have to hope that it is released eventually.

I was first exposed to Tom Waits in 1986. I was in a huge transitional phase in my life. From that point on, Tom wrote the sound track of my life. He led me on a tour of my past and sprinkled magic dust on my future. I can't thank him enough.

Tom would probably say "whoops that's my fault I usually keep my magic dust to myself" 😂 I love his whole being
To this day, the show at the Fox theatre in Atlanta was the greatest concert I've ever seen. Nothing else comes anywhere close. It was straight up magical. Everybody wandered out of the place in a bewitched daze. Whenever I meet someone else who was there, it's almost like we're reminiscing over an ancient ritual that we both once witnessed. I'd give anything to see him again.

Tom waits is a straight genius. His art has inspired me since the eighties.A true American Original.
This tour was the one and only time I had a chance to see Tom live, in Jacksonville, and man, am I ever grateful that I was able to get a ticket and get there. One of the most memorable and wonderful things I've ever had the good fortune to experience. This recreation is a treat, thank you for putting it together and posting it!
I didn't have the money to buy tickets for this tour... I thought.. no big deal, I'll just catch him next time. That hasn't worked out so well.. I regret it every time I hear his music. This is wonderful to see though, thank you for uploading it.

@MarcusBrannon almost word-for-word,I had the exact same experience when I foolishly decided I would catch them on the next tour. The ‘them’ was Led Zeppelin. SEIZE THE DAY. BUY THE TICKET. TAKE THE RIDE. Etcetera.
I doubt i'll ever get the chance to see Tom perform live, but i will forever enjoy the multitude of recordings of him that are out there 🥲
I drove almost 500 miles to see the show--Virginia to Ohio--Found myself sitting next to people who had traveled from Connecticut--More than worth it--I'd do it again tomorrow--
I think Tom Waits is The Artist of the century and man, I love a lot of other Artists but his creativity is outstanding!
I was a senior in high school and just started listening to Tom Waits the summer prior. My English teacher told us how he saw Tom Waits in Columbus, and I’m still feeling the fomo to this day missing that tour! Tom’s my biggest bucket list performance I’ll probably go to the grave with, but this softens the blow :)
I was fortunate to catch this run at Palladium Ballroom in Dallas. So many years later and I still don't believe I was actually there.
J'y étais le 25 juillet 2008 au grand Rex à Paris . Concert incroyable de ce grand artiste , monsieur Tom Waits ....
No matter where it is we are going, no matter where we're currently @ No matter where it is that we have been... Tom Waits there; smiling the every each of us A whisper knowing all about the place.
Legend has it Tom was originally born "John" and changed his name when he beat the devil in a fiddle contest.
The Lo-fi gritty visuals so perfectly marries with the gloriously raspy majesty of this music. I can only imagine how wonderful it would have been to be in the audience of these gigs.
Tom's from another era, both past and future. Sounds like he's got a couple of yards of gravel rolling around in his singing voice and songs. He goes right to the pit of it all. Great stuff.
@kevincooke281
3 ай бұрын
He has admitted that his gravelly voice was from hard living with smoke, drugs and booze, and that was early in his career. There is no other voice out there that is as recognizable as his especially now
I’m German and do not speak French but this is so clear and really good explained and developed. Might take me lots of hours to get my fingers following the idea. It’s a great song and this pattern opens up a lot of possibilities. Merci!
I will go to my grave happy knowing i seen my favourite musician and singer of all time Tom Waits i was right infront of his mic stand front row in Dublin.

Wow, wow, wow. I would travel anywhere to see a show and I feel like I probably will never have the chance. This is a gift. You are a gift, Tom. And not like a scarf or a pepper grinder type gift.
Tom Waits is his own genre, but goddamn, he just puts every single death metal vocalists to shame. He eats them for breakfast.

One of the beautiful things about seeing Tom live was FEELING that voice. It hits your chest cavity like some kinda discarded Tesla resonance device. Scary, hairy and wonderful. Apologies for the comment spam.
I was in the 3rd row, St. Louis. I remember the dust!
This is just fantastic. I was listening to the album and dreaming of something like this. Thank you.
I want to make a comment, but what more needs to be said other than "Tom Waits" ? Settling in to watch this now and I want to thank the contributor of this video - well done, effing well done. Just cracked open a fresh bottle of Tito's, called in sick for work tomorrow, and will attribute my anticipated hangover to this wonderful Thursday Night faux Tom Waits concert :) for context - when Small Change came out I was 12 and in line to buy the album the day it hit the stores here in CLE. I still have the album and it hits my turntable frequently. Love Tom. If you read this far, be sure to check Tom out in the Fishing With John videos - you will be glad you did!
Awesome, fantastic, great, outstanding, terrific, etc etc... I'm sorry Nick Cave, but this concert was the best that I had ever seen!
I got a phone call from a record company in 2008. Someone told me they heard I would be interested in seeing Tom Waits in a small theatre in Antwerp that had been sold out in literally seconds on line. I had seen him years before in the Olympia in Paris, but this experience, seeing Tom arriving with his son in the afternoon behind the theatre and the concert at night where he clearly felt like a preacher before his congregation, was over and beyond. Thanks for posting!

I attended at this concert in Prague, I arrived on that afternoon and on the way to hotel I saw the poster of the concert, it was very difficult to get ticket. I still have the ticket with my name on it
The favourite artist and the most incredible human being , thank you Tom :)
I had to miss the Atlanta show due to a conflict. Never would have thought it would be my last chance to see him live (by the looks of it).
I was there in Edinburgh. Fourth row and so close I saw them putting out the dust on stage. Life changing.
Swordfish Trombones, Frank's Wild Years, Nighthawks, Raindogs. Jaw dropping, stunning, exquisite works of art. But, so is Real Gone, Mule Variations and all of 'em

I got to see him live in a small 350 seat venue in Rochester NY just after his Nighthawks album was released. I was a fan before then , but afterwards…WOW!
I really wish I would have seen him. I was a fan and a young adult when Tom was giving live performances. I blew it. Saw Bob Marley and Stevie Ray Vaughan though. I'm not a total failure, haha.

What songs or albums got your attention?
49 yrs old and this man is Dylan to me.
Tom is the best. The first time I saw him was way back in 1973. He always put on a great show. Closing Time was his first album, and he has released many more that were always great. Thanks, Tom for all your wonderfully different music.
Thank you from down under. 😊
I was there in San Sebastian (Spain) in the Kursaal. Wonderful memories.,
If you happen to get turned on to Tom Waits, he'll always be a gem of your music collection. He's a truly authentic artist and musician. Prolific and legendary.
I flew from Reno NV to Memphis TN to see him. It was glorious. Partied on Beale St. and saw my favorite artist. Would do it again tomorrow and travel even longer distance if necessary.
Just great what a musician

I was privileged to attend Mr. Tom Waits' "Glitter and Doom" concert at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver. The great Susan Sarandon with her then-hubby and Pearl Jam frontman, Eddie Vedder, was seated right in front of me. They were singing along brother Tom. They knew all the words or all the songs!

I'm so fortunate to have seen him in 3 concerts, 2000 in Warsaw, then 2008 Dublin and I think 2011 in Amsterdam, those were magic nights. I hope he will tour again
I'd sell everything I have to go see Tom Waits play live! PLEASE do another world tour!
Saw you in St. Louis at The Fox on this tour, Tom. Seeing you walk on stage was akin to being made to realize that Sasquatch was real- after all the grainy footage and recordings, here he was in the flesh! I remember you being unhappy with the acoustics but I thought the show was fantastic. Thanks, Sasquatch.
Been looking for the full performance for years
I remember when Waits wandered the UW-Madison campus with just a guitar and would park himself at random spots to play his songs. I've been a fan of his for life, but every live performance I see him do on YT just solidifies my opinion that he's the greatest songwriter alive.
Still one of the best gigs I ever went to!
I've been waiting for this. Thanks so much!
