God Bless Billy Joe but nobody could tell a story like the old storyteller... even when it wasn't his story.

I've never met Tom T. Hall, I went to every show he did in our area, but I never met the man. I don't think my dad ever met him either, so it's absolutely mind boggling to me how he got him portrayed in this song every time I hear it I see him in my mind. I miss him lots.

Having seen emphysema in real life in 2 grandfathers, I am certain it was the emphysema that was the final straw. One of the most hideous diseases or illness one can have, even worse than cancer.

Tom T. Hall is the man. However.....Jerry Jeff's version is the definitive. This rendering is a bit too slow.

Tom T. is the man. However, his version is too slow....almost tired. Jerry Jeff rocks it the way it should be. Just one guy's opinion.
