Iggy has already outlived Tom Snyder who passed away at the age of 71. Who would ever dream that after seeing this?

Big Iggy fan. I remember watching this show 41+ years back so great to find it again. NEVER would have thought Iggy would still be alive 40 years on. Glad that he is. A lot of fidgety energy up from with Iggy and Ricky Schroeder, although for entirely different reasons!

There's something so genuine and honest about Iggy.. he's not going to play anyone's game, but he's also not gonna react to it either... just keep on keeping on.

Tom Snyder was great. He could get respect from the most outrageous people. I miss him

I came here while reading Open Up & Bleed. Iggy was in a rough place around this time. He looks and definitely sounds better than I was expecting

Snyders interview with Iggy is great. I always respected Tom for trying to understand his guests point of view. Iggy says several times"that's a good question" so obviously he got that Tom was trying to genuinely understand him. Snyder was the only mainstream talk show host back then who not only featured punk/new wave performers playing, but also interviewed them in depth and tried to expose then new music to a mainstream audience. He deserves credit for that.

Iggy in turn respected him for trying to understand what he did.. he sure wasn't like Dinah Shore was in 1977. All she did was look at him like he was part of a freak show and judge him every chance she got.

It should be noted that Iggy’s just a really nice guy in general, but at the same time he doesn’t suffer fools. Tom was being respectful and polite, as he always did with his guests (for the most part), and Iggy being Iggy responded accordingly. Snyder was frequently a bit goofy and awkward with his questions, but almost always respectful and courteous.

Man, I've really got to listen/watch Iggy more. So much needed fun and insanity. The perfect antidote for life these days. It's hilarious too when the cameraman does that fast zoom in and out.

Those were incredible times...today people wouldn't be allowed on the stage of an "American family show" in those conditions. The host was very gracious to Iggy who looked terribile. Like Dinah he tries to give him some advice for his career. Iggy was going through one of his worst periods, poor guy!

i love iggy pop and the stooges..1969 and fun house albums are some of my all time favorites

Snyder (after Iggy lists SUN RA among other as influences) says: "These people are in a word ... CONVENTIONAL." Yep, Sun Ra is the epitome of conventional.

I’ve probably seen Iggy throw up ON the stage three times. Once I yelled “Iggy, throw up” at the beginning of a Stooges set at the Birmingham Palladium, and lo and behold, he did! lol, true story.

I’ve seen the Stooges, or Iggy solo, close to 30 times. That story was from the early 70s when Iggy was doing heroin. The Birmingham Palladium, run by Punch Andrews, Bob Seger’s manager, was a favorite venue. I saw the Stooges there around 8 times. I’m so old I even saw them as the Psychedelic Stooges twice, lol! Once at the Grande Ballroom, opening for Jefferson Airplane, and again at the Michigan Fairgrounds at the First Rock and Roll Revival. Those were the days!

Dionysian vs Apollonian Art - set out in The Birth of Tragedy, by Nietzsche. I imagine that Iggy and David Bowie discussed such topics.

Iggy, so thrilled to know when all is said and done Iggy's still out there doing a fantastic show tonight at the. Salt Shed, Chicago The show was great and Iggy looked so damn happy to be there with us. I am honestly so happy to see him as he is today.

Tom was far from perfect and sometimes let his ego get the best of him, but he was always a very curious interviewer who wanted to explore and understand all kinds of subjects, including those that were clearly alien to him, like New Wave and Punk rock.

Iggy was amazing. Great stuff.

@@peterguitarhowitt268 Cool...I will! Iggy always had a band that knew how to play simple rock but with that freight train drive. Just thundering along. FEW rock bands can pull it off with the groove that just feels so powerful. I like Steve Jones and that guy in STP for these same reasons.

Miss ya Tom, what a great show.

Iggy struggled with opiates in the 70s, and cocktailed a lot in the late 70s and early 80s, pot, speed, mescaline, etc. He's been clean 35 years, bless him.

Tom Snyder was way better than the talk show shit nowadays. And smoking in public.. I miss those days. And by his teeth you can clearly say that lovely Iggy was still doing drugs. I thought he quit it in his Berlin years.

He did quit in Berlin, but started again in the early 80s. I think the tooth thing happened during a performance. By 86 he was clean again. I think he did coke for a while after that but was done with everything by the mid 90s.

Tom Snyder was the best. I don't care what anyone says! We watched him growing up. Honestly, the only interview he gave that i disliked was with Manson. He antagonized the whole interview. I thought Tom was cool beans. And to interview rockers just like Iggy and not take himself so seriously, I miss him. I miss this era. ❤🎉

I like the Soldier album, I thought Ivan Kral and Glen Matlock suited Iggy well. It's a strange album, because many guitar parts were wiped because Steve New played most of them and he knocked David Bowie on his ass for hitting on his girlfriend at the time. Bowie had a lot of uncredited say in the production of that album and after New decked him and walked out Iggy decided to eliminate all but a few suttle guitar tracks that New played. The album was a bit unique due to the predominant keyboards, brass and rhythm section but the songs are well written for the most part in spite of the raw, sarcastic songs (Dog Food, I'm a Conservative). It's actually a fairly well balanced album that I can spin start to finish every time, from the silly Loco Mosquito to the rollicking " Knocking them Down ..." through the jazzy "Get Up and Get Out" on through the darker satire of "Mr.Dynamite", "I'm a Conservative " and "Dog Food" and the rebellious "I need More" and closing with the in your face "I Snub You ", later reissue has two interesting out takes, the funny "Low Life " and a surfy punk instrumental "Drop a Hook". It's a very good album, don't listen to the critics whom expected Iggy to rewrite "Raw Power", "Lust for Life " or "The Idiot". Iggy was great because every album had a slightly different mojo than the last. He has run the gauntlet of rock, punk, industrial, avant garde, new wave, metal, etc. He is a rock n roll legend, period.

Nah. No thanks. Nothing against rock but it shouldnt have to be the metaphysical standard of western culture. Especially since it is whitewashing by white fans of the electric blues. If rock is to become central to our culture, I would rather have the likes of the Beach Boys or ELO. Not that punk shit.

As much as I wish that would happen, I’m fairly certain it never will (again). Rock and roll can only be rock and roll if it’s the *REAL* deal - unforced and spontaneous, and that’s already happened. Rock and roll, before it became just another corporate commodity was a perfect storm, that came together under all the right conditions. “Lightning in a jar”, as the adage goes. That kind of thing just can’t be duplicated and remain authentic and pure. It’s definitely over. We had a great run. 40 years, give or take. Now it’s all history.

My review Rick Schroder, loved how he said " I'm still a New Yawker". Iggy Pop, even drunk and/or high he was still articulate. Economist author dude, 😪. Lastly Dorothy Greenpepper, Tom Snyder and her banter or 😕 flirting was 🎶😲ahhhkward and very cringy.

In order to appreciate Iggys Real one must be prepared to receive it.

Is this a cut down version? At 42 minutes it would fit perfectly in a one-hour timeslot with commercials, but this comes from the latter years when Tomorrow ran 90 minutes. Even without commercials it should run about 1 hour. I see Rona's name is not mentioned up front but in the end credits she is mentioned (and Tom says thanks for joining us from NY and LA). Did someone (the network or the syndicators) cut these for a Tom-only short version to syndicate along with the original format shows?

One could get high watching Iggy lick his gums while talking with Tom. I don't think that he was a happy man here, but this song is still beautiful in a manic almost grimy way. Barry Manilow this is not. I am so glad that Iggy and Jimmy got straight with each other and cleaned up not long after this. What an artist! Ivan Kraal and the rest of the band are wonderful as well. True rock and roll, maybe some of the truest right here.

Drugs suck. Even incredibly well spoken poised men like Bowie and Pop come off as off in these interviews where they're in it.

Just seeing Iggy in full flight here shows how punk copied every mannerism in performance from Iggy.

Although he seems somewhat not himself, I will not accuse him of being chemically altered. I will say, though, he is articulate cordial and always a very good guest. I don't think he was doing well here, but I'll tell you he could pull it off and show up and work anyways...Iggy wasn't too bad either lol Schroder and Iggy.

I think a lot of his assumptions were in line with the main pop economics of his time, which was the Chicago School, but to say, “his method is right on”, about Reagan’s stepping towards such economics.. well, that’s really worked out great, huh? Also, his ideas about the value of our coins going up, as our paper currency plummets.. I don’t think so, man. Maybe it made sense to say then, idk (or maybe Roger Ailes producing has something to do with it). Anyway, it’s interesting looking back on shows from this era, and seeing the early days these economics emerging before it’d taken over our country, and basically the entire “Western World”, and most of the planet, in general... Oh, and Iggy was great! Lol.. I clicked on this to watch Iggy, and like with so many of these I watched the whole thing out of curiosity. I couldn’t help but get worked up by Jerome Smith’s economics (I repeat: Roger Ailes was the executive producer!), but yeah, the reason everyone is here for, Iggy’s performances, are pretty damn good! It always took me a lot longer to get into his albums “New Values” and “Soldier” (from which tracks for these performances are pulled), partly bc of the production, and partly bc I felt like there was a plummeting in song writing after the first decade of his career, especially following the masterpieces that are “The Idiot” and “Lust For Life”... BUT, I do think these are great tracks, from a couple of the better albums of his solo career. Thanks to the uploaded!🙏✌️
