    Kaline was always my guy too. His final year I saw his second to last game from the Tiger Stadium bleachers. Loved his play and the way he lived his life. Who would be a close second? There isn't a close second.

    When I signed up for my first year in little league my dad said watch Al Kaline play and learn the fundamental’s from him , nobody does it better

    Kaline refused the 100K salary after the 1971 season. He hit .313 in '72 and in September of the '72 season batted nearly .500 for nearly 20 games.

    According to Baseball Reference, Kaline made $100,000 a year during his last three years, when he was not a good player. So we can assume that was a reward for his previous greatness.
