I know you're in Rock and roll heaven with all the books and music you can have and cartoons. I listened to Tom Petty before I even met him. I love Tom Petty so much he was so amazing in the 70s and '80s live at night at the concerts at the pier in NYC or at any venue my friends and I saw him at.

I'm not disputing the fact that Rock n Roll or Rock music is an integral part of American culture and look at what America gave us. Even with the tremendous impact of the Britrish Invasion, Rock n Roll is AMERICAN all the way. But if there is one band that could sum it all up, a band that is the personification not only of Rock and Roll but of Americana itself it's Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. BTW I have no stake in this, I'm not American, I'm from Portugal, in South-West Europe for those who don't know. Cheers.

You can turn on ANY of Tom's music and it will sound just like it was released in the last few years. Think of your favorite bands, think of the greats, or the one or two songs a group released that you liked as a teen. Mary Jane's Last Dance - released 1993. Full Moon Fever - I started college in the fall of 1991. Full Moon Fever was released in 1989 and it's one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Full Moon Fever is my favorite, along with the incredible new release of Wildflowers the way Tom wanted it released. When I was at college, Tom, the Police, and a few other artists were in constant play. I had to replace Full Moon Fever at least twice, I'm sure there same was true of my Best of The Police tape, too. Now for the most mind-blowing fact of all:. American Girl. I've sung that song so many times. I love it. I was not happy it was used in Silence of the Lambs. I was afraid it would ruin it, like dueling banjos and Deliverance, or how horrifically Clock Work Orange destroyed Singing in the Rain. But, thankfully, it's still an amazing song. American Girl was released in 1976. 1976. I was 4. I'll be 50 in six months, and you could play American Girl on any contemporary rock station and it wouldn't stick out as some old song everyone is sick of hearing. Meatloaf, I'd do Anything for Love, released in 1993. I hate this song, loathe it with every fiber of my being, and there's is no way you can play that song and have it sound fresh and part of today's music scene. American Girl will live on for many more decades. The song is 45 years old and it's great. It's an amazing story of bittersweet lost love and pulls you in. As you listen, you are the woman standing, alone on your glass balcony with a bit of whiskey in a glass suddenly thinking of that one guy who still makes your heart ache a little. Watching moonlight and lights from the city, somehow smell of salt and the sound of phantom waves bring a lump to your throat and makes you wonder where he is, just for a few minutes. But she won't live a life of regret, "if she had to die, trying she, had one more promise she was gonna keep. Ooh yeah, alright. Take it easy baby, make it last all night. She was an American Girl. 45 years later and the song gets me EVERY TIME.

Glad I spent all that money. I saw Tom and the heartbreakers at least half a dozen times. Over about a 30 years stretch. I saw about 600 national tours during that time. Tom was always incredible. I see a lot of comments about how good the sound is. Tom Petty, Peter Gabriel and Steely Dan. Something about the sound of those 3. Just beyond what anyone else can do. Lots of groups sound good. Not Great 👍... RIP Tom Petty RIP Walter Becker. Put out the new album already PETER Gabriel. I live in Hawaii for 8 years now on the big island. No big Acts coming here . No little acts either.

........I live in Gainesville Florida........ where HWY 441... runs through the town ....”Like 441 like the waves crashing on the beach”. Used to shop at the music store in Gainesville where Tom Petty and the guy from the Eagles used to work... Also Stephen Stills lived in Gainesville and I used to ride my bike past the elementary school Stephen Stills went to as I went to UF. I still have yet to leave my music mark on Gainesville- Maybe one day for Christ ✝️

I'm so sorry that Tom had to endure what he did towards the end, but he chose to entertain the masses of all his Rock n Roll fans all over the World. And as much as I miss him not being on the planet playing his music, It's the best feeling in the Universe to be able to tune in to KZread and even better PettyTube and catch all of his Rock n Roll music from all over the planet. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers are (imo) The best definition of great straight up Rock n Roll music. And his skills of song writing stand right alongside his mastery of songs. So, Everytime I need a lift and need to hear from America's top Rocker's, here is where I go for the love of Tom 💘 and The Heartbreakers. ROCK ON PEOPLE!!!
