TOM PENNY RAW UNSEEN FOOTAGE FROM 1995-96

Every time Tom Penny came to Tampa for a demo or pro-contest I followed him around like an obsessed stalker and stole his soul every time his board got within a few yards of his feet. After digging through a mountain of old hi-8 tapes I threw together a timeline of simple raw footage of Tom ripping the Skatepark of Tampa from 1996. And a random bonus clip I shot of him from 1995 in San Diego. Enjoy.

That shifty flip man, that shifty flip... it's the archetype itself, defined by the master. It's so cool seeing this footage. Thanks for sharing this footy, much appreciated. It's like Tom Penny has always been good, exactly the same since day one, blessed with the gift of kickflip, frontside flip, switch flip, and switch frontside flip, any day, any time. The legend of Penny lives on.

I was there that day in Tampa. It was probably the best demo I have ever seen. Rune Glifberg, Jeff Grosso, and Peter Hewitt were there as well. I can't even describe how amazing Penny was. I took so many good pics of Rune skating the very ramp. Just plain sick. That demo has became legendary now and I am so glad I was there for it. I believe Donny Barley was also present. There are so many things that went down after the demo was over. Penny had the "elephant paw". He had broken his hand a few days before at a demo in Texas but you couldn't tell by the way he skated....

I dont think there was anyone up until this point who could catch there tricks like this. The board control he has after he catches it is amazing, you dont even see kids nowadays even doing tricks that way. Im pretty sure he was the first to start flicking it in a certain way, and im pretty sure also was the first to start catching kickflips backfoot first. The way he pops certain tricks seems effortless to. He was the smoothest ever imo.

He became my favorite skater instantly! I later met him on another occasion leaving the XYZ skate premier. He let my Friend take a swig of his 40oz. What a cool memory to have. Then went to an after party that night and he was there. At that point he was truly faded..lol..skate genius though no doubt!
