TOM PENNY RAW UNSEEN FOOTAGE FROM 1995-96
Every time Tom Penny came to Tampa for a demo or pro-contest I followed him around like an obsessed stalker and stole his soul every time his board got within a few yards of his feet. After digging through a mountain of old hi-8 tapes I threw together a timeline of simple raw footage of Tom ripping the Skatepark of Tampa from 1996. And a random bonus clip I shot of him from 1995 in San Diego. Enjoy.

this is valuable footage. His FS flips are fucking legendary, his style is effortless. One of a kind!

That's how Reynolds based his fs flips on - Penny. Tom Penny's influence is well beyond what Tom even realizes.
Tom penny will always be my favorite skater. Kids now days just don't get it man and penny is the most pure skateborder there ever was or will be.

Wow man thank you so much for uploading this this is some of the best stuff for Tom I’ve ever seen
That shifty flip man, that shifty flip... it's the archetype itself, defined by the master. It's so cool seeing this footage. Thanks for sharing this footy, much appreciated. It's like Tom Penny has always been good, exactly the same since day one, blessed with the gift of kickflip, frontside flip, switch flip, and switch frontside flip, any day, any time. The legend of Penny lives on.
Switch back lips in 1996 were extremely rare. Ones with that much style even more rare. Damn.
People didn't start switch backlipping rails till like 10 years after this. Dude was amazing!

I was there that day in Tampa. It was probably the best demo I have ever seen. Rune Glifberg, Jeff Grosso, and Peter Hewitt were there as well. I can't even describe how amazing Penny was. I took so many good pics of Rune skating the very ramp. Just plain sick. That demo has became legendary now and I am so glad I was there for it. I believe Donny Barley was also present. There are so many things that went down after the demo was over. Penny had the "elephant paw". He had broken his hand a few days before at a demo in Texas but you couldn't tell by the way he skated....
@wagonswest1

You guys are so lucky. Rifling those Nollie flips was the signal that no one skates better.
I dont think there was anyone up until this point who could catch there tricks like this. The board control he has after he catches it is amazing, you dont even see kids nowadays even doing tricks that way. Im pretty sure he was the first to start flicking it in a certain way, and im pretty sure also was the first to start catching kickflips backfoot first. The way he pops certain tricks seems effortless to. He was the smoothest ever imo.
Loved watching him as a kid, I’m 36 now. Still one of the best fs flips and switch fs flips in the game
Thank you so much for sharing this! Absolute Penny gold!

Theories of Atlantis, were you a Tampa local? I had been staying there with friends and was able to see the demo. My friend Johnny Randolph is seen all through that footage. Kenny Belov was working at the front desk that day. I think Freddy from Bolivia was working in the parking lot. I hung with Scotty and a few others after the demo.
So weird to stumble across this video. I was actually there for that demo where Penny's hand was broken. It was pretty damn rad!

That was the smoothest full cab i've ever seen on vert.
Tom was under filmed. So was Mcrank. SO gnar and so rare when a skaters style is totally 100% unique and original.
Tom was is and will always be the best. This is pure art
stoke to hear some old less than jake in the background
The whole skating is art sounds cliche or w/e but watching this is like looking at a beautiful painting or sculpture by a great artist
I personally saw this guy skate in person on a mini ramp. I will tell you this, he was freakishly consistant. He landed everything with style and grace like it was nothing. He became my favorite skater instantly! I later met him on another occasion leaving the XYZ skate premier. He let my Friend take a swig of his 40oz. What a cool memory to have. Then went to an after party that night and he was there. At that point he was truly faded..lol..skate genius though no doubt!
@Rufusdos

+john doe I saw him do a miniramp demo/contest when he was about 13 and he was just so extreme, when he did a one-foot the foot just shot out, when he tweaked his indys or melons it was always to the max, at face level out of the ramp. A fiendish skater from day one.
Whats that trick called where he kickflips 90 degrees in the air but lands straight when he comes back down?
Backside 180 nollie mellon is such a unique trick to have in your bag that you could pull out. So rare
unreal how good this dude is
