What happened to it?

It is funny how people are complaining that this is not what Tom of Finland is about. First of all the men look great. The clothing is not bad either. Just get over it. People are so picky.

PART 3: TOF initially worked as a commercial artist in an advertising agency and he sometimes used fashion images as the basis for his own private drawings: he sexed the guys up. But the idea of this catwalk collection is that you can reverse the creative process, and it doesn't work. I'm as much of a sucker for leather and muscle as anyone, and I enjoy "male" clothes and gym-toned muscle. Can anyone tell me the fate of this specific collection? I suspect it failed to catch on. ENOUGH!

Many of these clothes I would wear, even though I am a plump and sloppy skinhead. The fit of the clothes is good and has a cut that can be used by anyone. But many of these clothes and combinations only look good on guys that have the body of these models.

yea i think a lot of ppl tend to be blinded just by how things look on models.. . there's a couple actual design throughline elements/themes here, but for the most part a lot of this would have been easy to find in most middling mens stores at the time.. i mean i know tom's style aesthetic was never over the top, but if you're going to show me a tom of finland bomber jacket then i expect to see something at least a little bit unique (do something new with the shape, or pockets, or stitching etc), not just throwing a standard alpha jacket on a 6'6" gym rat and calling it a day.. . i guess if someone was into labels then going into one of the tom shops probably would have been exciting for them, but look past these guys' bodies and there's not really a whole lot here that men couldn't achieve shopping practically anywhere else.

Enjoyed your comments here, but I am not at all sure that TomOF would have enjoyed or approved of any of this. Although he played along with the adulation he received thru Dirk Dehner in the USA, he always looked somewhat uncomfortable with (horrified by?) the whole experience. I agree with you that the catwalk guys are certainly meant to LOOK sexy, that's the logic behind the show, of course. But what I'm saying is they aren't sexy, and they're not sexy because TOF is not fashion. MORE TO COME

There are only two models on the runway that I thought fit the Tom of Finland image. The rest look like they belong on Abracombie runway.

Only a few of these fashions actually say TOF to me. The rest just look dumb.

There are some inherently wrong things about this collection. They should fire the stylist--it was probably a woman. The visuals presented were absolutely not Tom of F. The sensuality was lost, a lot of the models were the right face and physicality but they were not visually presented in classic Tom of Finland style. You don't have to reinvent the wheel it is already there. Here is an image: The Marlboro Man on Steroids. Now go get it..So disappointing.

Am I mistaken in thinking that this strange initiative was a total disaster? Tom of Finland was certianly very interested in clothing, for sure: but he would have been appalled by the notion that you could dress guys up in that gear and send em down a catwalk to be ogled by a fashion audience. NUTS simply nuts. Although the eager customers spending up big at the "fetish boutiques" in Berlin during Folsom Europe might still be lining up at the checkout for an imaginary slice of Tom's action. UGH!
