I honestly find it really nice that they’re still using the scream in the more recent iterations of the shows, that’s how iconic it is!

Well, he did die from throat cancer at age 90 in 2001. From what I've heard, a hoarse voice is a common symptom of throat/esophageal cancer.

Even though I was born in early 1996, I still enjoy tom and jerry. Parts of what make it enjoyable is...well, while they are *not always* funny, but it's how tom and jerry does injuries and sight gags and the whole "you can see what's coming" without much dialog stories that is enjoyable to me.☺️😆

I was born in 2002, and I absolutely loved Tom and jerry. As a kid, I even watched the 2 spinoffs (Tom and jerry Tales and the Tom and jerry 1975 show) and the older movies they made (especially the 1992 movie). I'm 21 now, and I still love Tom and jerry. I still watch the old classic, the old movies, + the newer ones, and I got done not too long ago watching the 2014 spinoff and I watched the live action 3 times already, and it was great. The only movie I was not fond of was cowboy up of Tom and jerry, but other than that, I love Tom and jerry

That scream has been making me laugh my whole life.

"No one born before 2000." That's not fair, I was born in 2003 and I know who that is. I grew up watching a LOT of Tom and Jerry cartoons (mainly on DVDs. I even have a Tom and Jerry movie VHS tape from when I was a kid.) There's people born after 2000 that know classic cartoons, but at the same time, you're not wrong. A lot of kids associate Mel Blanc's stock cartoon screams with the game Pizza Tower instead of cartoons. Which is cool because of how nice the game's art style and animation style is, but it's also sad at the same time.

The newest uses for the screams just don’t have the same…oomph. It’s down to the animation or placement. Like the one where he’s hopping up and down (1:01) feels like it’s more fitting to use his “OW A WHOO WHOO A WHOO!” one

Literally could not stop laughing at 0:30 when he chops his own tail and 0:40 where he just sits there screaming to the world with a mouse trap stuck to his mouth, making him look like a screaming duck at the same time. The humor brought me to tears. So hilarious!

Tom does this when he is in HUGE pain.

One fact: William Hanna was the voice actor of Tom's screaming

You can almost see how many of the old ones were only in regard to his tail region. Then in the new ones it's just general purpose when the old Tom had different screams for most other things

1: Puncture wound to butt. Could have spot of bleeding. 2: End of tail cut off. Could have significant bleeding. 3: Bite marks on tail. 4: Half of tail chopped off. Not to sound graphic but I'm surprised there wasn't a splash of blood on the wall! 5: 3rd degree burns to tail. Might lose fur and have scars from the hot metal pressing on his skin aside from being turned into a waffle! 6: Tip of tail sliced off. Blood oughta be squirting out from his stump. 7: Knock on the head and 2nd and 3rd degree burns to right foot and armpit. 8: Stretch and crush injuries to his entire body tail to head. I'm amazed he survived. You saw what happened to the Thuggee slaver in Indiana Jones! 9: Huge red welt on his lower backside. Might have a sore back and buttocks in the morning. 10: With the force Tyke bit Tom's tail, his teeth would sink a couple of millimeters into his flesh, causing a bloody bite wound. Yeowch! 11 & 12: Line shaped red welts on his nose and foot. 13: Hmmmm....bruised cornea with minor traumatic iritis. 14: Bruised left foot. 15: Serious lightning injuries and possible broken back or pelvis from the fall. 16: Ouch! That was quite a hard bite for a little mouse! He could've bitten off his fingertip above the nail! 17: Good news is it would not bite his tongue clean off but he could get the same painful marks when your normally bite your tongue. 18: If Tom was still intact from surviving that fall, let's just hope those beads pass through him normally!

The new cartoon's animation does not do justice to this iconic scream at all. Classic all the way

I think that gag is one of the very, very few times where it crossed over into "gory, not funny" territory. Most of the time Hanna and Barbera were absolute masters at knowing how to make cartoon violence FUNNY, not matter how over-the-top it was. The total opposite of, say, the Herman and Katnip cartoons from Paramount, where they just did not have that same understanding, and the violence there just comes off as painful, unfunny and even kind of gross at times. (In fact, The Simpsons creators have always said that Itchy & Scratchy were meant to be a spoof of Herman and Katnip, not Tom & Jerry.)
