I agree that most of his choruses aren't that good, but this one is actually pretty good

Who is the rapper ballsy enough to give his alter ego, depression and manifestation of all of his anxiety equal mic time? He's amplifying his insecurities with a track and promoting it so he can fight back. This is a rap battle between Tom and his mental health. And giving those negative thoughts equal track time, saying the most horrible, under handed, low blows. He's had the guts to let his ego say the worst things to him, the things that sting so deeply, and put it on a track, to show everyone else if he can, we can. Also, remembe, he's not telling the world he's the best rapper ever. He's telling his demon. It's the only way to keep fighting. ;) This was courageous. Only people with anxiety understand that voice. The things its willing to say to you. The ego saying "you can't lie to me" has layers upon layers of meaning This was transformative and special. Production as well. And great reaction my friends! Ps: that line about night vision is not just hard, it's more meaningful than at first glance. Night vision doesn't allow you to see "darkness". It allows you to see /through/ the darkness. It makes the darkness disappear. It reveals what was hiding. Just like silencing that ego PPS: there's also a subtle detail that most miss where Tom is roughly 6 inches shorter than DemonTom. Not just the scene where the demon is giant. Which is why I love that bar "I don't care about a size difference,"

Not only did he give him equal mic time, they ended on equal footing so to speak. You can’t say he vanquished the demon tom, or became more powerful than him... To me, he started off subservient to demon Tom and became more and more vocal about his independence and freedom from that side of him, but at the end, the demon showed him he needed him when they recited the “hi my name is Thomas...” bar. So even though Tom finishes with he “has to do this by himself,” he hasn’t yet fully separated his two selves and they still struggle for control of his mind.

No one seems to mention that during the chorus, when he sings “I’m the best rapper ever...” that he’s in the dark ... and that his demon keeps egging him on..and even pushing him to say that he’s the “best”. And the demon even sings along in the chorus and whispers the words “best ever”. It’s like Tom and Nova are trying to show that, yes...it’s important to believe in yourself. But be careful that your demons (ego) don’t push you into the darkness of hubris.

most folks miss the part where initially the darkness is a giant, but as the song progresses Tom grows taller to the point they're equal, then he's taller. just dynamic.

I'm glad to see people as successful as Tom are still human. I feel so weak and vulnerable at times. I think if I was more successful or was different, I wouldn't feel so down sometimes.
