I bought this instrument as a cittern (it has 5 courses) but currently have it tuned as an octave mandolin/bouzouki, GDAD. I've not been playing it enough, so wrote this tune for it.
Жүктеу.....

Sounds good Tom your Dad , showed me your KZread site , have known him for some years but your mum over 40 years lol , I play Octive mandolin, Irish Bouzouki, large pear shaped bouzouki/ mandocello like Steve knightly plays and various Taylor’s , keep up the good work mate it’s inspiring 👌👌

Hi Tom, Wow! This sounds amazing!! your playing has a such a melodic drive but also a cascading fluidity about it. I also love the mellowness of this instrument its really pleasing to the ear and not overly bright sounding like many Irish Bouzoukis are. I would love to know what strings you are using here as the sound here is immense! Kind Regards, Johnny

Thanks Rob, I usually use GDADA and have tried it in GDAEG and AEAEA but I only had the bottom four courses on for this video GDAD. This particular instrument has a short scale so wouldn’t be ideal for tuning any lower than G on the bottom but I’ve heard of people using CGDAE. Hope this helps!

Thanks! That’s one way to tune it although with the shortish scale length, I find it better to tune the lower 4 courses like that with a high A on top
