Tom Kimber- Cittern/Octave Mandolin

Музыка

I bought this instrument as a cittern (it has 5 courses) but currently have it tuned as an octave mandolin/bouzouki, GDAD. I've not been playing it enough, so wrote this tune for it.

Sounds good Tom your Dad , showed me your KZread site , have known him for some years but your mum over 40 years lol , I play Octive mandolin, Irish Bouzouki, large pear shaped bouzouki/ mandocello like Steve knightly plays and various Taylor’s , keep up the good work mate it’s inspiring 👌👌

Hi Tom, Wow! This sounds amazing!! your playing has a such a melodic drive but also a cascading fluidity about it. I also love the mellowness of this instrument its really pleasing to the ear and not overly bright sounding like many Irish Bouzoukis are. I would love to know what strings you are using here as the sound here is immense! Kind Regards, Johnny

I wondered...thought it was CGDAD at first, then i started to think, wait that's GDAD. You should post those ABCs somewhere. "Tom Kimber's" or "The Missing Strings", lovely tune.

Lovely fluid playing, Tom. Excellent. Can you tell me what tuning you use for this and do you use other tunings? I’m a mandolin and guitar and I’ve just been given a cittern. I’d like to get off on a solid start. Thanks Rob.

Thanks Rob, I usually use GDADA and have tried it in GDAEG and AEAEA but I only had the bottom four courses on for this video GDAD. This particular instrument has a short scale so wouldn’t be ideal for tuning any lower than G on the bottom but I’ve heard of people using CGDAE. Hope this helps!
