Few male singers in history have had more bras and panties thrown at them on stage during a live performance by adoring female fans in the audience. Tom Jones was part of the "British Invasion" of the 1960s. This song and "It's Not Unusual" were his first two hits in America (1965). He is still going strong today as one of the judges on the UK's version of "The Voice," and can still knock it out of the park with his voice. Check out these songs by Tom: "She's A Lady," "Help Yourself," "Delilah," "Green Green Grass of Home," and the one most of the reaction channels have done, "I'll Never Fall In Love Again."

This was the theme song for a movie called What's New Pussycat, about a guy with so many girls he can't remember their names and calls them all "Pussycat". I think it is as much about the body part as the girl. Tom Jones was and still is one of those people who get panties thrown to them on stage. You saw the crowd reaction?

Tom Jones was THE "crooner" of the 60's and early 70's. Not a rocker, but definitely a pop star who had many, many female fans. What's impressive is in the "rock/soul" era, he had several hit songs that made it on Top 40 radio and are still played today on oldies radio. Although they couldn't by more dissimilar, he was friends with John Lennon.

Maybe a lot of Tom Jones' early hits were pop tunes and both gentle and power ballads, but don't label Tom a "crooner." He can and has done all kind of genres, including pop, R&B, rock, jazz, blues, folk, country, reggae, rap, gospel. funk, dance, trance, movie theme songs like "...Pussycat" and the title song to the James Bond movie "Thunderball," and more. He loves all kinds of music. Tom has so much soul and passion and swag, plus superb control over that incredible, powerful voice of his. And he has rocked with some of the best... Jerry Lee Lewis, Dusty Springfield, Little Richard, Janis Joplin, CSN&Y, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett.. and others. You should hear him with Aussie favorite son John Farnham doing AC/DC's "It's A Long Way To The Top [If You Want To Rock And Roll]. Absolute Fire! No matter if Tom is singing alone or singing with someone else, he brings it! He still does at age 82. His latest album (released last year) hit No.1 on the UK album charts, and a cover he did from the album, Bob Dylan's "One More Cup Of Coffee," was a hot single here. You should listen to some of the impromptu singing Tom has done on The Voice UK. where he is a long time judge and popular coach.

Gotta love that 1960's innuendo! Reminds me of a scene in The Yellow Submarine where a police officer stops to try to pet a cat and says something like, "Here Pussycat, here puss; puss, puss, pussy." Then there is the femme fatale from the James Bond movie Goldfinger, who had the delicious name Pussy Galore. Man, it's funny what people could get away with before PC culture came along and spoiled the fun for everyone. Or at least for the men.

"She's a Lady" , :Delilah", etc are the the next one yall should check out! Mr Jones was quite the ladie's man, too. Rumor has it that he's "blessed" down there in the special department according to the groupies. lol! This video I'm guessing late '60s, early '70s. Also, color TV came out during the '60s , they cost more for the people back then, so most still had black/white TVs.

This was the theme to a hilarious Peter Sellers movie from that 1960s. Tom was - and even at 80 still is - a sex symbol of the first order. He was billed as the Welsh Elvis, and though their styles were completely different Presley and Jones became great friends. Try his song "It's Not Unusual". There's also a fantastic video of Tom and Janis Joplin singing a duet - there's enough energy in that video to power California for a month.

most TV shows began broadcasting in color in fall of 1965. This performance was from 1969 I believe when Tom Jones had his own series from 1969 to 1971. The song was a hit and used in a movie that was Woody Allen's first screenplay in 1965. Back in those days they used a lot of double entendre. A figure of speech in which a word or phrase can be understood in two ways, especially when one meaning is risqué. To children he's singing about a cat. To adults he's singing a love song to a woman and/or he's singing about a girl's hoo ha.

This song was the title song from a film by the same name starring: Peter Sellers, Peter O'Toole, Romy Schneider, Capucine, Paula Prentiss, Woody Allen, Ursula Andress. It was a screwball comedy and quite fun. The expression "what's new pussycat?" arose in the beatnik generation (50's) and is a general query aimed by men at women. In the film, Michael (O'Toole) calls all women "Pussycat" to avoid having to remember their names.

Play the song which becomes 1st reaction. Check reaction of listeners/viewers. Re: What's New Pussycat? Just listened to it. From a movie of same name. Starring Peter O'TOOLE, Peter Sellers. Screenplay by Woody Allen. The Doors! Arguably the most non-linear band of the '60's. No bass player. Ray Manzarek played keyboards. Had an electronic device that he played left-handed for bass effect. Dunmore, drummer, was jazz trained. Krieger guitarist was trained in flamenco, ergo, he could play lead and rhythm simultaneously. What a band!!! Keep up the good work.

Wikipedia easy lookup: although I heard this constantly on the radio when it was new in August/September of 1965....What's New Pussycat? is a 1965 screwball comedy film directed by Clive Donner, written by Woody Allen in his first produced screenplay, and starring Allen in his acting debut, along with Peter Sellers, Peter O'Toole, Romy Schneider, Capucine, Paula Prentiss, and Ursula Andress. The Oscar-nominated title song by Burt Bacharach (music) and Hal David (lyrics) is sung by Tom Jones. The film poster was painted by Frank Frazetta, and the animated title sequence was directed by Richard Williams. The expression "what's new pussycat?" arose in the beatnik generation [mid -late 1950's to early 60's] and is a general query aimed by men at women. In the film, Michael (O'Toole) calls all women "Pussycat" to avoid having to remember their names.

It's well known, that when Tom Jones did his shows in Vegas, Many women would throw their panties, Hotel room keys, and other assorted items up on stage while he was performing. That dude was getting layed every night. Women loved this guy.

This might sound familiar to you Brad if you've ever come across Wyclef Jean's "Pussycat", released back in 2002 and samples "What's New Pussycat?" along with featuring Tom on the song as well. It apparently only charted in Australia, but I'm not from there and the music video played frequently enough around my neck of the woods for me to know about it lol.

You probably heard the song in a cat food commercial. The song is about women and pick up game. If a man chases too hard after a girl he likes she will run away. (Because he comes off as needy) But if he gives her a little bit of attention and then ignores her when she runs away and he resist the urge to chase she will come back for more attention just like a cat. Just give her a little room. 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

This was 1960s. In those days, there were a lot of diminutive terms used for women, who were still perceived as second-class citizens in many ways. "Pussycats," "babes," "skirts," "dolls," "little girls," "birds" (in England). Tom Jones was a huge sex symbol and women used to toss their panties on stage at his concerts. Oh, and most families started getting color TVs in about the mid-to-late-1960s. I was about 10-11 years old when we got our first one, and we bought it with money my mom won in a supermarket giveaway were you got a scratch-off ticket with each purchase; she won $500 on one! Lots of people still had B&W TVs well into the '70s; they'd pass down their older ones to their kids when they got color ones. Back then, people had their TVs fixed when they broke, and there were TV repair shops all over. These days, you're expected to just toss one and buy another. We have become a very wasteful society.

The wild snaps that seem familiar? Carlton on Fresh Prince. Tom Jones was his idol, and he did his dance steps, probably even sang this song. This song seems creepy by today's standards, but in the late 60s, women were pretty little things to be petted and pampered, and were expected to make themselves "pretty" for their men.

When I was a kid hearing this song, some of the innuendo was lost on me. I didn't detect that he was building up to the "lips" part of the face, which is the one that also has a counterpart elsewhere. Before Tom Jones, it would have been considered too risque, except in private quarters. One of the very first novels was called "Tom Jones: Adventures of a Foundling" or something like that. He too was a gad about town; a womanizer, bed-swerver, Casanova, Don Juan, lothario, lounge lizard, ex-president.

Written, for the Woody Allen film of the same name and sung by Tom in that film, by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. They wrote almost all of Dionne Warwick’s early hits. Bacharach is known for his constant rhythm and key changes and his songs are considered very difficult to sing. When Tom was first sent the demo it was Bacharach who sang it. Burt is not known for his singing and Tom said his first reaction was, “what the Hell was that?” Here’s Tom singing it live in Spain 2 months ago at age 81: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dXqdsrGrfZS1qbA.html

I KNEW I wasn't imagining I saw that movie .. in the theater, I was about 3 - saw all the 60's movies as they came out .. from Elvis to James Bond, from 1965 to 1969, starting at age 3. (on a military base in Japan, going to the theater nearly every night was the substitute for television). I'm the only person I know my age who saw all those films when they came out. Oddly I remember this as a Barbara Streisand film .. but it's because I'm mashing this up with Hello Dolly in my memory of it. I never confused James Bond and Matt Helm though.

1956. Colour TV.. The system was NTSC, jokingly referred to as :Never The Same Color" owing to a design flaw that made everything look yellow or orange. The flaw was later fixed, and today it is irrelevant with digital media. Edited to add: a European system was devised that overcame the colour problem. It was called PAL, and it it was a lot more expensive than the NTSC system, hence its own colloquial name, "Pay a Lot". :-)
