Tom Dunne and his 400 + Norwegian Reds
Ғылым және технология
Tom Dunne is an Irish dairy cow farmer based in Cork. He has a herd of just over 400 dairy cows, with the grand majority of them being Norwegian Red. We visited him in June 2022 and he was more than happy to share his experience with Norwegian Red and show us his herd.
Geno and Norwegian Red has been active in Ireland for over a decade and has helped Irish dairy farmers increase their profit due to better health, fertility, and calving ease all while keeping production at the same level. Tom Dunne's herd is mainly purebred Norwegian Red, and it's most likely the biggest herd of pure Norwegian Red outside of Norway. While he has aimed for a pure herd, it is most common to use Norwegian Red in a crossbreeding scheme with Holstein Friesian cows.
Norwegian Red has proven to be a great choice for Irish dairy farmers and their pasture-based, spring block calving system.

I suspect they’re sick to death of the irish music on repeat. No wonder they’re so gloomy.
