@@brucetucker4847 US went to the M16 because McNamara and his "whiz kids" in the Pentagon believed a fully auto 5.56 calibre was a better option, it also allowed a soldier to carry more of the smaller ammo. The first version of the M16 were terrible, and got a lot of troops killed in Vietnam.

@@RS-rj5sh it was a mixture of the ammo, the rifles, and cleaning kits not being standard issue to every man. The M16 was SUPPOSED to have a chrome lined barrel. The fat cats in their offices decided that was too "costly", soldiers got uncoated barrels. The burn rate for the powder was too slow and thus left unburt powder/fowling much more than usual. Also, when a gun gets wet and you shoot it making the barrel hot the water burns off and it instantly oxidizes (rusts). So a rusty bolt running on rusty rails shoving bullets into a rusty chamber. The bureaucrats in office at the time cost a lot of American casualties!

We haven't done that since Vietnam. Yes, the war was frowned upon at the time. On the other hand, from a macro level, whether you like it or not, American and European forces were fighting small wars throughout the Cold War. America decded to send its men to help keep democracy across the globe frkm being washed away by communist China. Suggest you learn about that too. Not everything is black and white. I stopped years back to find logic in American Hollywood movies and the thinking patterns of others as it is mainly incorrect and all show. I am, thus, not even sure there was any historical accuracy in the events portrait or it was just a tinsel town adaptation. Little reason for me to re-analyse a movie that was made close to 30 years ago. Cruise is not a great actor, but rather, a movie star. He plays a variant of the same character in every film he's in. Actors like Daniel Day Lewis (Lincoln), Meryl Streep (Iron Lady), and Jamie Foxx (Ray) are a different breed. They could help you forget it was an actor on screen, and furthermore, make people believe it was the character up there. With every new film he makes, we never forget it's Cruise on screen. John Wayne had the same issue. That said, "Born on the Fourth of July" was definitely one of Cruise's better efforts. Even so, I can't think of any film in which he successfully changed shape such that we forgot it's him up there. So what if he doesn't get an Oscar? He'll have to settle for being a multi-zillionaire. He's worked his butt off, no question, but I can't think of him as a victim of unfairness.

Marines, or naval infantry, are soldiers who specialise at operating in littoral zones, both on land and at sea. Historically, the main tasks undertaken by marines have included raiding ashore in support of naval objectives, and the boarding of vessels during combat or capture of prize ships. Marines also help maintain discipline and order aboard the ship (reflecting the pressed nature of the ship's company and the risk of mutiny). In most countries, marines are an integral part of the navy.

One could argue nth Vietnamese being the "invaders" but let's not let a little thing called dictatorship get in the way of right and wrong though huh... 😂

Do marines not do a certain amount of soldierING, in th context of th battlefield situ? Having to try to correct the video title, for th sake of separating one branch of military from another, aint saying a lot for th spirit of being brothers in arms.. Put plainly : when th US ships these guys out to wartime conflict, zillions of everyday Americans are concerned for those doing SOLDIER-like action..... Thus, we refer TO them as soldiers.. We r not, in th moment, trying to differentiate whether they r Rangers or Deltas or regular army or Marines or any other damn category.... So giv it a REST

His positioning was terrible. Entire upper body exposed, no movement to contact or changing of positions before and after firing.

Marines ARE soldiers, but not all soldiers in the military are marines. Just like thumbs are fingers, but not all your fingers are thumbs, except for the two fat and ugly ones, one on each hand. Confused, yet? Yeah, me too.
