Tom Clancy's The Division - Shoulder Beacon Prop

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is my shoulder beacon prop for my Tom Clancy's The Division costume. It has a total of 4 LED animation modes - orange throb, orange spin, green "receive transmission", and red "going rogue alert" - though only the first 3 are visible in this video. It is programmed to mostly throb, then randomly do the other modes, which is why I couldn't capture it all in one video (without reprogramming it).

    The only other mode is red "going rogue", which simply blinks on and off, solid red, every 1/2 second or so. At this point, I probably won't be making another video of this prop, unless they come out with The Division II and I make a new one or something. The code for the modes is open and available with the 3D printing download files on Thingiverse.

    +TB7445 If you don't have a printer, you can always have the parts made by a company like Shapeways.com . If you do, it will obviously cost more, but you can get it made on a machine that will require very little post finishing (e.g. sanding, filling the surface texture, etc.).

    If you want it to light up and function like in the video, it obviously needs the components. However, they are structurally necessary, so if you leave them out you can still build the shell.

    How mcuh did it cost to make?

  • @guido11x

    @guido11x

    7 жыл бұрын

    That's a tough question to answer exactly. The electronics are $30-60, depending what you get and where you get them. The shell has about $10 of 3D printer filament in it, or $100 of commercial 3D printer resin, plus whatever you get charged for the time it takes to print ($20-200?). Then there are some other odds and ends, like the tape measure for the antenna, nuts and bolts, paint, etc., depending on what you need (or have). I would say you probably can't build it for less than $50, and $125 is probably close if you have to pay for 3D printing (FDM).

    +Mark A No, sorry, I probably won't ever be selling completed ones. They takes several hours to make (really it's several days of periodic sanding, waiting for paint coats to dry, waiting for epoxy to set, etc.). I don't have the time to make them in bulk, and if I did they would be a few hundred dollars each (e.g. $50 in castings + $50 in electronics + several hours of quality labor). They aren't that hard to make, though (just time intensive), so I encourage you to go grab the Thingiverse files and make your own! You can do it!

    I'm making two of these and may sell them after comicon. I won't be sanding though. And yes, Guido is right...it would probably cost upwards of $150-$200. Just to pay back on the parts would be about $100.
