Good video. Most people miss the utilities of the bc their not aware or don’t use it for the uses Tom Brown designed it for. People miss the trapping, shelter , now making etc. And the skinning. I’m always torn between a stout 4” ish fixed blade with a carpenters axe…and sometimes a saw blade to make a bow saw (saws are nice). But it’s a very cool concept and really an all in one that doesn’t excel in one area but covers all the areas adequately. I need to try it skinning and gutting a deer. I forgot about the gut hook application. A good carpenters axe does not weigh much and a saw blade is even lighter. I think I’d want a small fixed blade too for skinning and quartering…I left this one in a drawer and wa gos going to put it gift it, but when sharpening it I fell like I need to build a shelter, gather and process fire wood, and go hunting. Need to reread my Tom Brown jr books…

Finally, a legit demo of the Tracker. It seems like most of the vids out there are about berating the tool or belittling it's capabilities. You are spot on Bro, most vids show the demonstrator not utilizing the tracker properly. Good job, I enjoyed your video :)

+John Penn thanks for the positive feed back, I actually was using this knife last evening to do the finer processing of deer meat and found it worked amazing, wished I had videoed it, it is definitely capable and useful.

The tbt1 is my only knife now. Have used it for over 2 years, and I have to say. To me there are no other knives that compare, especially others labeled survival knife. God bless

"It's the most options in the smallest package." That pretty-much sums-up my reason for finally acquiring one. I find myself alone at a coupla' ranches (and the occasional farm), here in South Texas, on a regular basis. I finally put-together a "truck bag" with some basic essentials. And, while building the bag, I wanted something like the TBT...a "one tool" option. "Portability" was a huge consideration for me, as space/room was limited. And, because of that, a lot of the big choppers just weren't in the cards. I've never felt under-equipped with the T1. I know a few folks dislike it a bit. But, for my uses, it has worked well. In fact, I've like it so much that I acquired a standard and coyote, to give my first (camo model) T1 a break every once in awhile. All of 'em are a bit banged-up, but no worse for wear. For me, the value is evident.

Great video I bought one and it's great in the kitchen too lo

Acquired my first tracker today (Bobcat, damascus), taking it out tomorrow... thanks for giving me an idea how to use it. Good vid. ~dan

Love this knife I've beaten it up pretty good so far and still keeps going the black traction coating comes of fairly easy not to worry though it will have no affect on the ability of the knife what so ever!!

*Although Mr. Brown "borrowed" the tracker knife design (just look it up) he did manage to bring the blade design out into the light. The tracker style knife is all about versatility, and if used properly is meant to be a superb tool for building a camp, processing wild game, and prepping a fire. I have one and when used properly it is a priceless tool. The inner blade is a draw knife, meant for very fine work, not splitting a tree branch, and the foreblade is the workhorse. I get very frustrated watching people take a great knife and use it so wrong. Thanks for the video, and for not being another "weekend knife expert" that bashes this blade for not being a BK9. The way I see it, the tracker is a knife for seasoned outdoorsmen, not mall ninjas or weekend warriors. It takes a skilled hand and a sharp mind to utilize the tracker, and if that is done, the user will fall in love with the tracker. Cheers, brother!*

Fisher Ohvf-men if you hunt around enough you should be able to find the TBT1 (with 9 saw teeth) for about $200, and the scout at about $100.

Thank you. Because you're right A lot of these guys try to do a knife review and have no idea how to use a Tom Brown tracker. So thank you for actually educating some of the wannabes. Out there doing all right for you and then knocking the knife because they have no idea of its uses. It's a great knife. And great for feather sticking with that hook works like a dream. And people say it's too heavy God damn it's only 2 lb or something that's not heavy. How lazy can they be LOL. Good video good job

I've always liked the Tom Brown Tracker. It's profile is radical yet practical, and it's an extreme survival knife. I have the mid-sized T2... It obviously isn't the chopper that it's bigger brother is, but I still like it a lot. The TB-Tracker is featured on my video intros on my channel.

I also have a T2 and must say it is still a work horse, funny how Tops did the sizes, going from T1, T3, then T2 and T4. Looks like you have a great channel going, watched the intro, good stuff. Thanks for watching.

Thumbs up and great video. I have a TB2 love it really is the best knife I've ever put in my hands as far as the amount of task you can do. I am betting the TB1 is great and better at chopping as it's heavier. Think I just might pick one up.

got one last week should have pick it up years ago. don't regret swapping from the #2. The only thing that I did notice is when cross botoning the #2 is a little better due to it being not as thick.

You're assuming the only reason to split a log is for burning. What if you need to make a flat surface to put your food on, or maybe as a starting point to burn out a section to make a bowl? Or maybe to make thin sheets of wood to act as improvised shingles? You're not thinking creatively enough if all you're thinking of, when splitting wood, is firewood.

@@whynottalklikeapirat to keep the rain off your head, sleeping area, and equipment when you make a survival shelter. Same reason you use them on a house... Or make them longer and use them as slats for a wilderness cot/bed to keep you off the cold ground. Even longer and you can use them to help build the walls of your shelter if you want to. Just flatten opposite sides of a long log and you can more easily stack them to build a fire/heat reflector.

I have thought about the Tracker for a long time. If it's half as good as my Tops BOB it's worth every penny.

As long as TOPS solely carries the license, and continues to produce it as a 3lb prybar; we may never know the design's potential 😟

I'm a Jarhead, and i agree, most folks critiqueting this knife fail to realize it is the multi tool of knives ( I own the #3, midsize ). It is an overall one knife alone tool, not a fine work blade. And finally.....Ooohraaah....it takes a Tuffelhunded to know shit!

You are probably correct on that, as far a regional preferences. There was a fairly mixed view where I was in east TN, but now that I have relocated to west TX, I have found what I prefered as a field knife to be almost useless out here. I prefer bigger strait blades or kukris, but now my RAT 5 with an esee Izula suffices most needs. The tracker would do well here also, or even better the original WSK. Thanks for your input and views.

I wouldn't put kabar in the same line. Kabar is a rat tang knife , it is very weak structure. My chose is ontario sp53 , ... I did few modifications to it , far is I made my own sheath out of old plastic paint bucket ( its turn out very well), drilled onother lineyard hole upfront of a handle , it is very handy for a few uplications , i did some modifications to the grind profile , i did put sharp 90 degree on spine of its blade , i stripped that ugly black coating and just polished all blade That coating was just creating unneeded friction during batoning , and now blade going rhrough the wood like through butter. !!! And this knife only cost me only $40 new !!! Plus few evenings i spend to get all those things done to it . This knife with me for over 5 years now , i can do literally everything with it around the camp , hack some trea down , brake it in to firewood , build shelter , process food , start a fire , skin an animal, process a carcass, and even carve a spoon. I can say that ontario sp53 with my midifications can be qualified as a one tool option. It is has some waight in it , but i did get used to it , and with other thing i carrying on my belt , with proper weight distribution i hardly notes it. I just dont se all those good things in tracker,!!! Its just to much stuff in one blade which is hard to take care to.... for instance haw do you going to sharp saw portion and that hook part in the bush , obviously some day they going to get dull ?? That first notch , next to the tip is probably to brake barb wire , i wish i hade it on my blade , and im going to make one at this summer , its good not only for wires but handy to lift a pot from fire, and bring down trea branch that i cant reach , macking a score cut on thick bones., or something else,!!! But thank you for your video, it was very educational !!!

Thanks for the comments. I like the Ontario SP53, never had one myself, but have had several of the SpecPlus knives, they are very durable, stay sharp and of course, affordable. My EDC is an Ontario RAT 5, stripped the paint off, vinegar patina, articulated the scales, did the 90° spine in front of the jimping. Great knife. I like the Kabar, it has been used as a combat utility knife over a hundred years, but as you pointed out, it has a rat tang and it is cut a sharp angles rather than radius, I have broken one there. I would never rely on one for hard use or bushcraft, not what it's built for. I do like the tracker, but there are other knives I like better, I am persuing a multi layered system, small knife, medium to large knife and axe or hatchet. But I'm a video guy so I'm always experimenting with different things. Have a great day, and thanks again!

The Tom Brown tracker that you have was not the knife use in the movie The hunted , it was the much smaller Tom Brown tracker that was used . I happen to have the same size tracker that was used in the movie it was the 10 inch version , & I don’t know if you know this but Tom Brown was on set of that movie just to give advice on how to track , fight & survive.

Yeah, I do know, did quite a bit of back story research on this thing since this vid. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on the WSK, made by the original designer, can't seem to remember his name. $800 custom knife though, distal tapered, differential temper, the real deal. Tom Brown had input, obviously, on the knife, but as I mentioned to another commenter, I have yet to find Mr Brown himself utilizing this knife in any iterations, it is a real bummer. Everyone else who has their name on a knife readily is found to use or demonstrate the knife. I believe the comparable tracker to the movie is the T2 or maybe the T3, the 2 is a little guy, probably the three. Thanks.

IMO Its a workers knife. An everyday knife. Do you need it on your uppity little lightweight backpacking trip? Prob not but its fun to throw around as a conversation starter. But i work in the mountains, on a few farms and a ranch as an independent farm hand. As a tool, its fucking nuts good. I dont have to strap on six different pieces of metal, i got my badass Tracker. This isnt the knife you throw in a bug out bag and never use, i use mine almost everyday (ok so i chop a lot of shit off my weedeater and electric fences, im not fighting bears or anything) and it not only does the trick, but it excels in a few areas.

David Smith totally agree with you on that, I found myself frustrated for a bit trying to fit this in with other knives and kit...but for a while it was strapped to my tool belt, and then every time I go out to work in the yard. It is a workhorse knife for sure.

If you like the Tom Brown tracker you will love the Dave Beck Tracker. The Beck tracker will beat the TBT in every category but price. However you get what you pay for.

@@smithjacusmc I have two of the Beck knives. The finish, balance, and edge retention are unreal. The grind is different as well. I am going to be making a Tracker that is almost identical to the Beck. However the scales are going to be titanium.

I don't think they are taking orders til the end of the year... So, why titanium scales? Over say micarta or G10? Pr even a premium wood?

@@smithjacusmc As for the Titanium scales durability and weight. They can be hollowed out from the inside yet be stronger than micarta ,g10, or wood. However I will be doing some wood, micarta, and g10. Heck I am even going to do some bone.

I killed a anaconda with my tracker to make an improvised sleeping bag. Then, I killed a water buffalo, skinned it for clothing, and carved it into some juicy steaks and feasted with some local tribes. They cried when I left because I took my tracker with me and left them with all their useless, old-fashioned tools. Then, another time I HALO jumped into enemy territory with only my tracker and took out a thousand insurgents in hand-to-hand combat. I even threw my tracker a hundred yards and took out a dude with an RPG. When I got home from my covert ops, I took a vacation day and built a 3,000 sqft log cabin for my wife in just four hours using only my tracker. Yep, this knife is absolutely perfect with no design and functionality flaws whatsoever. Tomorrow, I’m going to ride it into work and skip taking the train. Can’t wait to walk on water with it. Best knife ever!

Allen Jensen absolutely amazing, the only thing I have to question is the 100yrd throw, 50yrds is more like it...never HALO'd, but did fast rope onto a tanker ship off Somali, killed 33 pirates with My Tracker....I did actually remove the "saw" teeth, has a nice up sweeping point, drilled two 1inch holes undervthe scales to re balance and lighten it. It's not a perfect design, but is interesting and very versitile, it does have a small companion knife for tasks it can't handle...these days I carry an esee izulaII with a RAT5, CUMA Tak-Ri, or Kizlyar Savage...oh and sometimes BK4, I also use that Kukri in the vid quite a bit, love the traditional Kukri's...have a great day sir.

Yes, I discovered that, with a rasp file, I could re-profile the handle to better fit my hand. Ya know how large those spec plus handles are, and blocky. So I tapered and rounded the handle to something more comfortable for me I do the same with any micarta handled knife also, usually Ontario knives.

I have one criticism... Why no game processing demonstrations?

DJ Gomez -you got that right. The knife takes more work to do the same thing and sharping that thing is a full day job.

if I bought this knife the first thing I would do is throw it at a small tree, that was too cool in the movie.

Do you know WHY ppl use the middle(+/-) of the blade to chop with the bowie and instinctively do the same with the tracker? If you dont know the answer u dont know sh¡t about knives.

I don't know but you seemed to strain a bit in its use. Your chopping demonstration looked very awkward as you had to force your arm in an unnatural position to present the front edge to the material. I'm glad it works for you though but it's just not for me.

Perhaps you missed the part, where I explained that, I know the audio is not that great, but...that is the main point. Anyway, this is now ancient history, I did some work on the blade over time, got tired of messing with it, sold it on ebay, just last year. I'm pretty much a kukri lovin guy in the end. That is always the disparaging thing about $150+ knives, I always look at the knife and say.."it's just a chunk of sharpened metal, and paint", if you get quality for $50 or less, you are doing great.

That Tracker is absolutely pathetic at chopping. If you want just under 600 grams of chopping blade, get a Skrama for just about 70 dollars including shipping from Finland. It gets through a stick that size in about five or six chops.

Well yeah, but the Skrama is literally 3x the size of the tracker. I love my Skrama, doubt I’ll replace it with a tracker, but don’t think it’s a fair comparison.

It do the work by it self? Bud no offense to you but u might need a eye check or a ticker pair of glasses coz in yours video I see no wood being cut at all it will take you 3 years to chop that stick instead of braking it.You probably never see a tool called axe or hatchet might wanna look in to it cheers and good luck

The Tracker is an axe, with knife features, if one is ignorant enought to see it as just a knife, then one does not know what they are looking at. I can't, it's already recorded...besides if you use speakers or headphones the sound quality goes up. I could try to explain to hou the difficulties in recording in open air without the aid of microphones and using low end camera, but why, you should see, this is my hobby, not my life, I will spend more on a knife than a camera. At 8:50 you blew your wad in saying something to the effect that "if you threw your Tracker at a tree, that you may very well put a hole through it." Then your Mommy wakes you up from your dream. MrPocketfullOfSteel well, you have a "point", but what i was side noting was the fact that it might have the ability to penetrate a small diameter tree, and in my imagination that was about 4", and it would actually split and stick, by no means would i consider a cut through or pass through. I only say from having thrown knives, heavy thowers, and habing them stick over 2 inchs into an old oak. I suppose its a stretch but not impossible, and we all know hollywood is full of it, and drilled a hole in the tree prop on the movie i mentioned. so anyway, yeah it was a reach but hey maybe. what did you do with the modified tracker you mentioned?

Ok, so looking back, and rewatching myself, I remember what I was doing, or trying to do, I can see where you may have some concern for my digits, buuut, other than the missguided drill demo, I was very aware of my fingers in the setup for the batoning, buuut, you can't see what I am thinking, so..it looks bad. Anyway, I have used the ol' tracker a lot since, gotten much more proficient with it then moved on to another, and another, and.. Later dude, thanks for commenting, watching.

We have a saying here in Holland that loosely translated would be like: 'You can put whipped cream on a turd as much as you like but it still tastes like s**t'. You are trying to sugar coat a movie gimmick and find uses for it.

The kukri is a combat knife, made for killing, if you are a jarhead, you must have been in supply. #"fairytales forever"

The kukri good sir is not a combat knife...only, it is widely used all over nepal as an agriculture and daily tool, and a formitable weapon on top of that, a multi tool if you will. I was a mortarman 0341, and a Marine Security Guard, NWS Yorktown, VA. 96-2000

chuck killawood - kukri are used for everything cooking farming fighting and more. It is the best utility knife design.

Did you mesn wsk? Not familiar with the wtk...and the wsk is a hand made knife, this particular knife is the Tops TBT1...I don't think you know what you are tslking about and you are trolling, and...trybto start a fight. Gomer....hahahahaha!
